breaking into your vehicle (lost keys)
Giffer replied to JeepcoMJ's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
i don't even have keys for mine. no locks no ignition switch. never have to worry about lossing them if you never had them to start. -
i pulled the crapet out, what a pain in the a$s that was. to get the carpet out i had to pull the seat, that was expected. but the nuts were so rusted and corroded some of them had to be cut off. but the really bummer was that i had to remove the seat belts. i was a little choked on the part. and when i finally got everything out and looked at the floor i had a few choice words and called her a day. i'll post picks when i do my build up page.

ive never even purchased powersteering fluid. ive used Dextron III in all my vechicles and never once had a problem, and its half the price. same crap bigger bottle.
-
should have sprayed the "undercoating". now you are going to need alot of coats. been there done that. i did my whole YJ, and it pulled really quick where i rolled it. so i had to do it twice. and with the taping, always do 2 strips. but it looks really good. i love home done spray bombs. there the best. and when i did my car i used Tremclad and mixxed her quite thin and she stuck very well.

i can get the rough country 6.5" kit complete for a wicked price. about $840 USD, so around a grand once i get it to my door. does anyone here have anything bad to report about the rough country lifts??
-
ive got a fibreglass one on mine, and i would bet its lighter then the hard top on my YJ. can get it off my self but no way would i even bother trying to put it back on alone. but i plan on taking it off right away. anyone wants it they can come and get it for cheap.

i think they have to be legally covered everywhere in north america. just everytime you get pulled over just tell them they got stolen and your waiting for replacments. works every time. drove my YJ for 3 years with 14.5 inch rubber and no flares. say stolen or just play stupid.
-
going wide and tall or just wide for rubber??it tall and wide i would recomend the bushwacker cut out flares.
-
I'm not sure what you guys are talking about when you say "locks"? are you talking about the ignition switch?? if so thats all gone on my jeep. i have no keys for the thing. not for the doors nothing. theres not even any ingnition switch on mine. and no its not stolen. had then vin run by the popo before i bought it.
-
i leave mine plugged into my car all the time. it might come out once a month so i can put new songs on it. it still works great. been out side through -40 all night. as soon as i turn the car on it starts. love the thing.

don't USE THE ROLLER!! i tryed this the first time i did the box on my 76 GMC and was so pissed after. so i waited 2 days then put on another coat. 2 weeks later it was already peeling. it was preped properly you just don't get the thickness. spend the $20 on the gun and spray it. nice and thick. and if you don't have an aircompressor then I'm sure you have a buddy or a neighbor with one. just my experience.

is the steering column in the MJ the same out of any year of XJ?? i have an 88 and i looks like mine was stolen at one point. all the covers are gone, the ignition, and the cover under the dash. so all the wires all all exposed and i have to start it with that key ring looking thing, I'm not 100% on what it would be called.

i went with a cherry bomb turbo on my YJ. did the whole exaust my self with 2.5 and it cost me around $50 CDN. i love the sound.
-
looks awsome!! i didnt notice what size of lift you went with?? it tucked them 35 in alright, well with minimal cutting on the front fenders.

looking good. she'll be nicer then your XJ soon. -
i think you would be better off spraying it. then you won't have to worry about it rusting out under the plastic.

looks like shes about to come together. wicked work so far. -
around here we don't call that rusting, its called natural weight shaving. haha. or speed holes, going so fast the box sides pelled apart.

i thought that jeep grills were always a 7 slotted grill?? that one only has 5?? then again i don't know much about the cj's
-
looks like a good solid platform to start on the jeep adventure. and building a jeep is always an adventure, no matter how much planning before you start something always changes.

Painting whole truck Cost???
Giffer replied to wranglercory's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
it all depends where you go or if you do it yourself. if you do it your self look around $1500 if your starting out with out any tools. stuff like a compressor, a half decent gun, etc. and for a shop to do it the charge by the hour on most of the body work. so say 85 and hour. if they spend 10 hours on body, which would a quick fix, would be 850 for body. then say 5 hours of paint at 150, so around 750 for paint. 1600 for a cheap job. but hey its a jeep. painting is like tattoos. you get what you pay for. crap for crap and gold for gold. -
my brother called this guy over a tent trailer that was for sale. the guy told hime the it was already sold and that was the end of that. 2 weeks later my brother and i were taking my dog for a walk when he gets a phone call. its the guy who cody (my bro) called over the tent trailer. " hey are you the person that called me over the $100 jeep comanche a coup[le of weeks ago. i seem to have lost the message with your name and number, so I'm going through my phone and calling the numbers that i don't reconize?" " nope but my brother (me) will be there in 2 hours to pick it up " got out there, filled up both driverside tires, filled up the oil, put some gas in her and drove her home. runs pretty good considering it sat in his feild for 7 years or so.

First Real Build.....Project MOJO...
Giffer replied to whoopingbob5's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
i agree with BLHTAZ in the 4l swap. if you are already going to try and find a xj, just hope its got the 4.0 and drop her in. but i do believe the altinator, powersteering, etc are in differntly from the xj to mj. -
