Reality shows. Enough said. I generally avoid the TV save for some shows that I like. I am still bitter CBS took away 'The Unit'.

And to think, that 4.3 probably runs way cleaner than any 4.0 ever could.
-
So did your D44 lock up or was it the T-case? I am a bit confused. In any case, that sucks!

Move to a less... err.... Restricting state. Seriously, inspections are a waste. I can see the merit to a tail pipe sniffer, but nothing else. As suggested above, talk to a hot rod shop. Those guys would be the experts on getting a motor swap legal. Work around the motor, it might be more trouble than its worth to swap in a 4.0. Worst case, you help him swap in a HEMI...

That is an odd place for the cam to show up! Did it cause any damage to the crank? I think it would have almost had to... Welcome to the club. I have found the MJ to be more addicting than my TJ, simply because it has a much higher 'cool' factor. Mine was supposed to be a daily driver. Thank you for your service to our country! :USAflag:

Daily driver MJ....what do I need to fix
87Warrior replied to Disturbed's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Nothing better than driving a Jeep everyday. Sounds like you gave that truck at least another 20 years. ... But why not replace both front calipers? Its just another $20 of security if you take the old one in as a core. -
My guess is that a main is to blame, because I would bet the engine overheated and was low on oil. But hey, its just a guess. If it sucked in water, check for bent rods. More than likely the crank is fine. You can have my 4.0 HO for cheap if you haul it away. 190K on it, but ran smooth and used little oil. Located near Wakefield, KS.

I like that method Rob!

I never drove more than 200 miles between fill ups since my gas gauge was broken
-
per how many gallons at fill up?

2k if she is 100% rust free and in great shape. With that said, take a powerful magnet and a protective cloth. Use it at the cab corners, bottom side of the floor pans, agnd above the rear fenders. If it has the same magnetic force in those areas as it does on the front fender, she is probably rust free. I bought a 'rust free truck'. It actually needed new rockers, cab corners, floor pans, and bed....

Glad you found it. I remembered reading that build, but then could not find it here after a long search. Thought I was going crazy!

Seems like a good deal on that CRD. Round here that stay well above 10K. On a side note, I rescued a near death, stray lab mutt. He absolutely loves riding in my Jeep.

Not sure on the manual compatibility, but I have two front full electric 99XJ doors. Sheet metal is no good (jeep was rolled), but everything else worked. Anything I can help you put with?

The MJ is tow rated like any other Jeep. Not limited by the drivetrain, but by its light weight and wheelbase.
-
I did it. U-Pol Raptor. Lots of pictures in my build. Texture is slightly rougher than most plastic liners, but smoother than any other liner. Smooth enough not to capture grime or tear up the dogs feet.

Its humming along like normal for me :dunno:

What if you could build a brand new Jeep Comanche?
87Warrior replied to beepbeepmyredjeep's topic in The Pub
Just click on my build  Building it just how I desire. I did this last night: Image Not Found ^its still a work in progress -
Here we have it, a goal to reach. I spent a little time getting a loose rendering done of what my ultimate goal for the MJ is. - JKS/Skyjacker/Hell Creek/OME 4" lift - Polished Rubicon Moab wheels with an aggressive 31" tire - Black flares - Full on 97+ conversion - Jeepsticker's "Comanche" door sticker - SkinnyPedal's IPF/HID headlight conversion - Tinted side and back windows - Comanche Club rear window sticker (out of view) - K-State tag up front The only thing that my be different would be a tougher front bumper and tow hooks.

Ha! The JoCo drivers scare me to death. I was born and raised in a place much, much more rural than this. Its nice having my TJ to push around the 'benze people. I know the 4.0 would be plenty for highway, city, and trail. The 8 would be nice for pulling trailers or hauling anything too heavy for the MJ. The WJ 4.0 also has a hotter cam than the TJ. I ran a 01 WJ 4.0 uh my TJ for a few months, had way more pep. Hope to get behind the wheel of a few WJs next week.

Ha! Not a huge fan of the ZJ. There is lots of good information coming here. I really do appreciate it. This background knowledge will certainly lead us to make a more informed decision.

Wow. You guys are a whole lot more helpful than anybody else has been. Thanks for all the insight. Sam- we would certainly head to CO for the right Jeep. Have any more specs or a link? My search is now being refined to look at the laredo, most specifically for the cloth seats. There is no way we would be happy with leather. I suspect aftermarket heaters could be installed, better than the smoldering stockers! If she gets one before the summer is over I could have the guy painting the MJ take care of the cladding, or do it myself with those factory color spray cans. Now I plan to go drive a few that are on the local CL with my new WJ knowledge base. It is not hard to say the 4.0 is a more proven engine over the 4.7. Just watch some of the CFC videos. The 4.0 held in much better than the 4.7.

I have always been a fan of the WJ body style, but have never really had an excuse to look at them. Times have changed and I am now searching for a DD that can handle mountain trails for my fiance. This will replace her 02 Camery. We will be looking for the 4.7 for better driveabiliy with heavy loads and conquering mountain passes. Not particularly looking for an HO, but would not complain. However I am very comfortable around the 4.0 and could be steered that direction if the 4.7 has a common trouble component. Since I am helping a female find a rig, appearance will be important. I know she does not want one with the black plastic cladding. Does this limit my search to Limited models only with the body matched cladding? At least all of the one color rigs I have seen are Limiteds. Neither of us is crazy about leather seating. What models came with cloth seats? Do any of the cloth seats have heated bum warmers? How easy would it be to swap the leather seats for cloth? I am going to try and find a WJ without the dual climate control, but will 'fix' the dual if needed. Is there any specific transmission or transfercase I really should avoid? I know I would prefer a select-trac system. Nav is not important, RB1s can be found pretty cheap nowadays. I have a suspicion that she will want a small lift and bumpers in the future. Then beside the typical Jeep stuff to watch out for (rust, bushings, body panel gaps, fluid colors) what else should a prospective WJ owner look out for? Looking to spend $5-6k.

In all honesty I think the 4door JKs are hideous. I like the 2 doors. But, that is about all I can complain about. Sure their motors were designed after a minivan block, but let's face it the 4.0 was inspired by the germlin. The JK still has the heart of a Jeep and some small quirks that all jeepers expect.
