^ it is definitely a great investment. One of the first things any mj or xj needs is a front tow point. I put them on my mj and xj right away, and I don't consider them wheeling jeeps, but they need to have front tow points. Great for pulling in the snow, or pulling dead vehicles, or whatever needs to be done.

can a 13" wide "box" fit behind my bench seat?
jpdocdave replied to MancheKid86's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have a tall narrow tool case I keep ratchet straps in behind my bench. It is approx. 8" deep when I stand it up, and it almost stops the seat from closing back. If you use the seat all the way back like most do, I wouldn't think so. -
Now that all sounds great to me, for a minute this thread went the direction that c4x4 are the only kit worth a crap. And like you said, the guys at Hi Country are great people, with a great product, and they did redesign their product from feedback from people like us. And they do have a D ring option. Its too nice of a product, and too nice of people for me to just let get rolled over by a bunch of people on here saying c4x4 are the only ones around. Thanks Adam for clearing it up better, your input on this post is very clear and agreeable.

^ thanks, sums it up well. also the one that said the c4x4 are the only real and safe option, also suggested the ebay kit earlier in this thread. All I'm saying is that quotes such as "c4x4 are by far the best ones around" and then an "I agree" to that statement, and "they're the only real and safe ones" aren't all that true, there are other good options to consider, thats all.
-
I don't know how people can say the c4x4 are the only real safe hooks? The Hi Country brackets are beefier than the factory version, are stronger in my opinion, and easier/better installation. And you can do hooks or clevis
-
I have used the factory front hooks, and the hi country, to me the hicountry were way better, I recommend them to anyone asking for front tow hooks. They were beefier, and the install was way better than the factory version as well. http://store.hicountryoffroad.com/Xtrem ... _p_42.html

I put a used stock head unit I got for free from a friend, its been working for quite a while. I just wanted something cheap or free to make some noise. My mj had a nice hole where the radio goes, and the po didn't even take the 2 mins to remove the bezel, they cut around it. So I got a bezel and a free radio, and good to go.

I have a pair I can sell pretty cheap, pm me if you're interested. -
wow, summit racing seats and a 5 point harness........thats good. and is that a chevy grill?

14 mpg is not horrible, thats all I can get with my 96 xj around town, my 90 mj (which is auto 4.0 and 3.07 gears from the factory) gets 17-18 around town, and 24 on hiway easily around 63 mph. From my experience my mj is getting on the hi side of mpgs, your 14 is not really all that bad.
-
how would u check for a vacuum leak? spray something flammable around you vacume lines . if the idle changes you have a leak i thinkthat auto 4.0 mjs came with 3:55 gears. but remember its just a thought many many auto 4.0's are 3.07, including my big ton. Its great for gas mileage in stock form, if you keep your foot out of it. I get 17-18 around town. 31" tires and 3.07 gears is a pretty big factor, that gear ratio is now closer to 2.07:1 than 3.07.

Side bar: Its been federal law for years, that you cannot be required to go to your dealer for regular maintenance. They cannot void your warranty if they don't do the maintenance. They tried, but failed, your new car warranty cannot be voided wherever the maintenance is done, including by you in your driveway. But......keep records. And I have dealt with hundreds of dealers in my day to day at work, I haven't found one worth a crap. And now most are using quick lube bs in their dealership. A tech is not changing the oil, a lube tech idiot just the same as jippy lube, or midas, is changing the oil in dealerships now as well. Find a reputable independent shop is my advice, look around in the shop, see what it looks like, and who's back there.
-
ugh, luckily Rob I know you know better than some of the suggestions given, but c'mon, Midas for 25 years???? Thats the problem. Fact is, yes they over torqued it and wore it out slowly over 100k, and sadly, you will not get anywhere with them on it, guaranteed. Drain plugs are wearable items, the pan should not where out. They should've replaced the drain plug at the first signs of wear, but the lube tech was too lazy to walk up front and say "she needs a drain plug" instead, "ah screw it, someone else can deal with it next time"........again........Midas. edit: I was typing when you posted that, c'mon. If you install an oversized drain plug, you are damaging the pan, bottom line.

then its a tj rubicon i believe. Those tires are probably 31, I can't remember for sure. I think they'll be a hair too big. I ran 30" Mud Terrain tires on mine and they barely fit, and rubbed on full right turns.
-
what year rubicon?

^thats a sweet price........unless you like buying stuff that doesn't work for your truck. :D

as far as I know there is no such thing as a 96 obd1, it was federal mandate that all 96 and newer are obd2. I could be wrong, but my understanding is every vehicle sold as a 1996 is obd2, and some ford's and others were using it as early as 94 and 95.

I have some tail lights to if those don't work out, I'm in Illinois, but I've never heard of your city, South I'm guessing. I'm on the North East corner. send me a message if you want.

Ya, sounds like Rough Country shows they sent the whole lift out, so they're end is done. You need to see how many boxes Rough Country shows they shipped, and how many UPS shows they delivered. If they're numbers match, you're in trouble, if they don't, UPS may be at fault.

Here she is, much better. All painted up, and I put reflectors on the side. I'm much happier with the black, and I'm a huge fan of "rust shield" its similar to POR 15. I bought a quart for $28 and I used the last drop on my last stroke on the trailer. I also drilled a hole in each pillar, and on top for the tailgate pins. There was no good spot to strap down my ingersoll, but there are plenty of places now. And my 5'x10' trailer is 6 1/2' x 12', bonus.
