  1. It has to do with the position of the linkage. The 6 cylinder, the case is farther back, thus giving space for the azzys rod, on the 2.5 the linkage is right under the shifter, and the rod can not be installed. I tried. I ended up selling the Azzy kit I bought.
  2. The factory linkage or some form of cable aftermarket kit is all I know about. You might try to look at a TJ Wrangler t case shifter. I'm pretty sure they are cable actuated, but you'd need a case mounted bracket from a TJ to hold the cable as well, and maybe even the case shifter arm itself. I've never heard of that conversion being done, so it's purely just an idea. If you're not good at fabricating things then it may not matter anyways.
  3. I can confim the Azzy kit don't work on 2.5. youll also need a 4wd speedo cable. The t case shifter already has the hole in the floor, youll need to uncover and take the cover off. The indents are on the tunnel for the body side bracket that will need to be installed. Youll need to drill them out to accept the bracket. Your existing console should work too, youll just pop out the coin cup and install the shifter cover.
  4. WJ steering won't work as the axle is wider physically, and the knuckles are different. As was said, all MJ, XJ, ZJ, and TJ steerring components will interchange. ZJ steering gear box will also swap, and would give fewer turns lock to lock.
  5. Also MJ only parking brake assembly, if not already mentioned.
  6. Add this to the rear axle upgrades if you find one. I think it's 86 Metric Tonne only, but the rear AMC20 axle assembly, which was used before they started using the Dana 44. Spare tire winch assembly is MJ only.
  7. This has been a very interesting conversation. I like it when topics like this come up. This particular question from Classy isn't something I've seen here before. Here's a pic of my MJ bringing my new deathtrap home. This is the first time I've tried towing anything with my little 2.5. The bug doesn't weigh much, but still it was a little slow going. Luckily there was very little traffic. The plan for it is a full fenderless Volksrod rat build with an extended front end. I start a thread in the other projects section once I get going on it.
  8. Most all the regular parts stores that carry a little bit of auto body stuff will have seam sealer in caulk tubes. I got a tube from Advance Auto Parts when I cleaned up the floor of my truck before putting new carpet in.
  9. When converting from 2.5 to 4.0, the year model really doesnt matter, as long as the donor is complete and in good shape. Most will say 1991 or newer to get the better Chrysler injection. I personally would go for 96-99 to get OBD2 for easier diagnostics. But if a really good earlier model came along, theres no reason to stay away from it.
  10. Having driven through Atlanta a number of times, I agree with you, but I would say that with ANY vehicle driving through Atlanta. It has to be one of, if not the worst cities to drive in, in the country.
  11. I agree that these trucks arent any less safe than anything else built in the same time period. But, as someone whos never been concerned with a vehicles safety rating, it doesnt bother me. My first daily in high school was a rusted out 1964 VW Beetle. The thing was a death trap, but I drove it because it was fun and cool. Many other air cooled VWs came after that including a '59 Microbus... talk about crash ratings!!! Old vehicles are like that, and if youre forever worried about how safe you are, you shouldnt ever leave your house, but even there, there are things that can still kill you. I'll turn 50 this year, and I just bought myself another VW, a 1960 model Bug. And Id love to have another motorcycle. Some pleasures are worth the risk. We're all going to die someday, might as well enjoy it while youre still here.
  12. Here is a pic of the plate on classycomanche's truck.
  13. Sorry, I'm not on here as much as I used to be. I'm the mechanic working on his truck. Both of the welded aluminum rads hes had have leaked from the same area, from the fin solder joints at the top right. I assume this to be a quality control issue with the chinese parts. Beyond that, the Macs tank has been great, and we have this truck running great. Hopefully this newest one from a local supplier will be better, at least it will be easier to work a warranty return, though with new parts, we shouldnt have to worry about that. But we all know how crappy a lot of parts are nowadays, and it doesnt appear to be getting any better.
  14. Ill be 50 this year for reference. Since 16 or 17 years old, there have been 20 or so drivers, and probably close to another 20 that have been parts vehicles or just bought non runners as a project that never got started or finished. Most of them air cooled VW's.
  15. My 87 Sportruck was originally radio delete. It was a zero options truck. 2.5, 4 speed manual, 2wd, radio delete, cig lighter delete, dummy cluster, rear bumper delete, rubber floor, crank windows, solid quarter windows, vinyl bench seat. I put a factory radio in it during cash for clunkers, along with full power doors. All of the wiring was already there for the radio. Though I did have to make the crossbody harness to get the power windows and locks to work. Ive also upgraded pretty much everything else too.
  16. We have a Roku device, run Youtube a lot, have Hulu Live, Discovery Plus, Netflix, Amazon, and a couple of the other free ones like Roku TV, Freevee, the free side of Paramount. I was really worried about leaving satalite, but Ive been loving the way we have it now.
  17. I had a local upholstery guy re do mine after I got my seat redone. I had him use the same black vinyl as the seat. Cost $60, had them back the next day. Mine arent lighted, and the base was the old fiberboard stuff. I'm not sure if I took any pics or not. Ill check on my phone and post if I find any.
  18. I had a pushrod break on a VW I used to have. It sounded horrible, and I thought it was the end for that motor. I got lucky with it. If the truck sat for a while it could have had a stuck valve that bent the push rod. Its easy enough to check before investing too much into it. Id also do a compression and leakdown test. Get a mechanical oil pressure guage to verify pressure.
  19. Mine is single row too, but the row widths are twice or 3 times as big as a factory single row.
  20. I had issues with them getting into my attic and running around. I called an exterminator to see what they could do, so they set some baited live traps. In two weeks, they only caught 2 squirrels, both of which died in the traps the same day they were caught. I really question what they put in their bait. That cost me $200, but I knew I wasnt done. I went to tractor supply, bought 2 live traps, and a bag of critter feed. In the next months time, I caught 16 squirrels, and 2 young Possums, none of which died before I could relocate them. My wife made me stop at that point, and we fixed the holes they made to get in the attic. I think at that time there were no cats running the neighborhood, which caused the population to get out of hand. There are some around now, and much fewer squirrels.
  21. Vermont doesnt require titles on vehicle more than 20 years old. They will send you a registration. You take that Registration to your local state DMV, they will issue you a title based on the vermont registration.
  22. The current Mopar locks made by McGuard have an outer sleeve that is free spinning, so you can't just hammer a socket on it and spin it off. I would look at ones like that if it was me. I know as a tech, that sleeve made it a real pain to get it off without the key.
  23. Go to Youtube and search for Vermont title loophole. You don't have to be a Vermont resident, but the vehicle has to be more than 20 years old. Price didnt seem outrageous either.
  24. I bought an all aluminum one just after the pandemic hit, when my last replacement plastic tank model blew apart. I havent needed to look since, but I would think that they were out there somewhere. I just did a quick search on Amazon, and found several all aluminum options.
  25. I found this the other day. There are currently 3 videos up of him working on it, all very recent. He doesnt seem to be the most knowldgeable guy Ive ever seen, but hes not the worst either
