  1. Actually, mine was with about 1 1/2" lift over the original 2wd setup. When I swapped to 4wd I used the 4wd front springs and an extra spring isolator. And in the back I used longer shackles on the 2wd leaves. So you might say 1/2-3/4" over an original 4x4 setup. The JK 32's rubbed a little in the front during off camber situations, but otherwise was ok. And the rear would rub at the top of the flares under heavy loading. I ran it like that for several years. I'm now at 6" with 32" m/t's on aftermarket wheels.
  2. Have you considered JK takeoffs? They are right at 32" and would fit perfectly with 3" lift. Most of them are 17" but can be had in 18" also. I had a set on mine with little to no lift for a long time.
  3. I agree, WHY? Leafs are a step backwards for front suspension purposes.
  4. My father in law retired this year and has purchased a 30' motorhome to travel around with. He's been towing his motorcycle behind it on a trailer but says he'd like to have something 4x4 and able to be flat towed for next year. I know a Wrangler would be an obvious choice, but would an XJ, ZJ, or WJ also work as long as they have the correct transfer case in them? He's looking for something on a budget and has asked me to keep an eye out for something. I think a KJ is out of the picture for this as he had a bad experience with one as a rental. I think that had more to do with the hard base model seats than anything else though. Any recommendations as to models and setups would be appreciated. Thanks.
  5. I'm bringing this back up because I'm very interested in doing this to my other Comanche. Looking at buying new light assys on Amazon and they come with the wrap around side light attached to the main light assy. Does that just get cut off or am I looking at the wrong parts?
  6. Ive seen at least one Magnum that had the 300 front put on it. I agree, the Magnum was not a great looker in the front end.
  7. I used to live in Michigan and would put my nice car away every winter to drive a $300 winter beater. I don't miss that at all living in North Carolina
  8. I'm in central NC, Asheboro. The eye went right over us. The front side was no big deal, but when the back side came through it got a little rough for a while. Lots of trees down due to high winds and lots of power outages. We didnt lose power, but near by neighborhoods are without. The rain during this one was nowhere near as bad as Florence, I guess because it was moving so fast. It stated yesterday monring around 7, and was gone by 7 yesterday evening. Hope everyone effected is OK.
  9. 1986 models would have had the NP207 transfer case, not the NP231. The case lengths are different, thus the driveshafts are different. Ive run into this issue putting 86 donor parts into my 87. Also, the bellhousing for internal and external slave AX5's is the same. If you find an internal slave donor, you can transfer the external slave parts to your new one.
  10. Longer shocks would be preferable to shorter ones. And could you take a pic of your trans pan just out of curiosity? Your description of having to manually shift it has my brain spinning. Either your truck is heavily modified, or there's something wrong.
  11. Almost forgot.... 32RH TRANS??? Thats a light duty version of the TF727 3 speed. They were offered on the Grand Wagoneer, but never in an XJ or MJ. Are you sure about the trans?
  12. It also has only 3 leaves in the spring pack, I assume to make up for a lower front lift. And the shocks are almost completely compressed. I have them like that on my truck too, and I can feel them bottoming out over small bumps. Ill be doing relocation brackets soon as I can't take it bottoming out too much longer. I assume this one would be doing the same thing.
  13. JK takeoff shocks can be used for short lifts with mild modifications to the shock ends. I ran a full set of these on mine for several years until I put a 6 inch lift and spring over axle. I had the black ones and it rode great. They can be had cheaply form guys doing lifts on JK's.
  14. Get good parts, then do a professional alignment with caster adjustment to make sure the DW isnt an issue anymore.
  15. With that driveshaft it looks like it may have a slip yoke eliminator as well. That could account for enough movement for the driveshaft to fall out if the axle hosing didnt rotate in its mount, which by the way that spring over axle setup looks could be entirely possible.
  16. Sounds like two different issues. First sounds like the pinion nut came off and combined with the possibility that he's spring over axle with the perches NOT welded on or with rusted broken perches causing the axle housing rotation and allowing the shaft to then fall out due to the pinion nut issue.
  17. Drive shaft is back, turns out the one we sent to balance was bent, so they took a used one they had, put my ends on it and then balanced it, painted it and put in new U joints... all for $100! I put it in and test drove it.... smooth as glass now. Then I put my set of mud terrains on. Ive never run mud terrains before, and holy moly tire noise!!! They are balanced perfectly and ride out nice, but I can no longer hear my radio at any kind of cruising speed. I'm not sure I can live with the noise long term. But Ill run it for a while and see what happens. It looks so awesome though, I love it! My next issue... I put the stock shocks back on it with the original spring plates inverted just to get it going and safe to drive. I picked up a load of drywall yesterday for some home improvements and it didnt take much for me to be bottoming out the rear shocks. Ill need to weld on the new shock mounts soon and get the bilsteins installed before I haul too much with it. I basically rode home from lowes on the bottomed shocks the whole way (1/4-1/2 mile). Ill post pics of the truck with the new wheels shortly.
  18. 4X6 headlights are not correct for the Waggy application. They take whats called a 90x150 bulb used in many GM applications. There still arent a lot of options available, but LMC truck makes a new housing with changable bulb for about $35 each. Ill probably go this route and then look into LED bulbs and an upgraded relayed wire harness for them.
  19. YJ and TJ Wranglers (Up to 2006), yes, JK, JL Wranglers (2007 and newer), no. What are you looking to do?
  20. Everything was good until last night, It was the heviest rain weve seen through the whole storm. Many local rivers and streams overflowed, covering or washing out roads. We are fine though, and my truck is fine. Thanks for asking.
  21. Are the waggy headlights considered 4x6? I'm wanting an LED setup and there are a bunch for 4x6 but not in H4703 H4701. If the 4x6's work that would be awesome. I don't have mine here to measure, not that I would during this hurricane anyways. Thanks.
  22. here's the one I'm talking about.
  23. here's mine with waggy front end.
