  1. Would a stock 4cyl 4wd shaft work, found one on car-part.com for $75???
  2. The 87 is a 2wd short bed. I really appreciate all this info. Thanks again!
  3. I do plan on using the front and rear axles too, hoping they are 4:10, the rear in the 87 2.5 is 3:55 and is a real dog. Better gearing would be great. Ive yet to confirm what the 86 has yet.
  4. I mostly just want to make sure the whole 86 trans and tansfer case will bolt to my current 2.5 in the 87.
  5. I just bought an 86 MJ long bed with a 5 spreed 4x4. If the trans is an AX5, can it be swapped to my 87 2.5??? If so, will it just need the bellhousing swapped over from the AX4??? And is that even possible??? I've been under my MJ a hundred times, but have never thought to look to see if it has a seperate bellhousing. That would be great as a headstart for me to do a 4x4 conversion on my 87, if so, looks like all I'll need is maybe a new rear driveshaft. Thanks for the help!!!
  6. Gimme a friggin break! Jesus wouldnt have had this big of a reception. He would be like... "I'm Jesus here to save you." and we'd be like "Yeah right, Jesus my big but!!!" He would go around the world and no one would beleive him. So Jesus finally decides to start making wine in Golden, Colorado from natural mountain water, in a place where no winery ever could be. So there Ya go!
  7. Being a Jeep technician, Ive seen this happen before. Just have to keep an eye out when youre doing engine work not to let this happen.
  8. I finally istalled the new wheel bearings I've had in my toolbox now for over a year, I changed the tranny oil, the rear diff oil, and scored a free set of front brake pads for it ( wish I would have had these when I was doing the wheel bearings ), and adjusted the rear brakes trying to get my parking brake to work better, although I did get more at the brake pedal, the P-brake still seems soft. Guess I need to look into adjusting the cable. And just bought an 86 MJ 2.8 4x4 5 speed LB for parts or whatever, been a good week.
  9. I just bought a solid 1986 2.8 Comanche 4wd 5speed long bed, that has a bad engine, for $125. I am wondering about the 3.4 swap. Is it a direct bolt in with just the transfer of parts including acessories, fuel induction, sensors, etc??? Just wondering if I should try to fix this or just use it for parts for my '87. :help: Any help is greatly appreciated.
  10. We got at least a couple of inches in Asheboro, NC, enough to do some good doughnuts, and to make all the inexperienced drivers drive me crazy. I'm originally from Michigan, so I think I was the only one who knew what to do. The MJ helped too. I'll just leave you guys with that great quote...."He just stood there with a dumb look on his face...Obviously he's never owned a Jeep before."
  11. You should also list all the other Jeep 2 letter codes for the help of parts interchangability, like WJ, YJ, TJ, KJ... etc, and all the years those models were refered to as that. I,m a jeep dealership tech, and I still get them confused sometimes.
  12. Jeep is the only company of value to Chrysler Corp., I agree, Chrysler would be totally worthless without Jeep. Jeep is the only reason Chrysler bought AMC to begin with.
  13. That cuphoder is beautiful, now if only my 5'4" wife wouldnt drive it....
  14. I've been keeping an eye out for a 44, or an 8.8, so I'll try to adress the gearing issue at that point. Little by little it will happen. Would it look too funny if I went with a full width rear out of a full size???? :brows:
  15. I'm trying to go for a prerunner look, with maybe 33-12.50/15 rear and a skinny maybe 235 front, I don't actually know what lift I,ll need in the rear, I'm just trying to get all this weighed out in my head before I start. So you say a SOA in the rear will give 5-6" of lift? That means I'll need close to that in the front too. New powertrain will come later, this 2.5 runs too good for me to mess with it right now. I love the idea of a Cummins 4cyl diesel. When or if this 2.5 ever gives up, maybe then I'll look at that stuff more seriously. I bought this rust free unabused truck from the original owner for $250, and drove it home! It's good to be out of the rust belt!
  16. Getting ready to do a SOA on my 87 Comanche. How much lift will this give me? If its not enough lift for me, will it then be OK to add some moderately sized lift blocks? I know that an SOA and new re-arched springs would be the best bet, but the budget will not allow it at this point. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  17. Being a dealership jeep tech, Chryslers answer to this especially on newer models where bushing wear is not an issue, is to replace the steering stabilizer. They finnally went to using a black painted heavy duty off road style stabilizer after having customers come back time and again to have the tiny little factory unit replaced to no avail. Also a good road force wheel balance will help you tremendously, it cost more to have done, but is worth the price. Good luck
  18. Ive been reading here about the 8.8 Exploder axle conversion. Is it a direct bolt in? Is it a SOA, or SUA? Does the original driveshaft bolt right up? Can the parking brake be made to work? Are the brake lines able to bolt right up. I'm not necessarily going to do this conversion, but if opportunity presents itself for one, I want to know what it takes, and to keep my options open. Thanks!!!
