You won't be able to get your rig buried enough to ever break a 30,000 lb strap. It'll tear your rig in two before it'll ever break. The weight of a chain will beat the crap out of whatever surface you put it on if you keep it in the truck. AND as said before they are extremely dangerous if you don't know how to properly use them. Using them for recovery is not using them properly. I saw a chain cleave a 79 Bronco top in half when it broke from yanking on it. It took out the windshield and rear window also. Needless to say the driver was quite shook up and upset that his 4 year old truck at the time was ruined. Luckily nobody was hurt.

There is one hole at the loose end of the tag, the other hole has the bolt through it holding it to the axle. -
Swapping In A 4.0/5 Speed
FrankTheDog replied to TheDude's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yes it'll work. you'll want the master and slave assembly. Transmission and transfer case, crossmember, transfer case linkage. Front drive shaft, the rear drive shaft from the auto MJ will be the right length with the 96 XJ rear driveshaft slip yoke on the AX15. Especially if it was originally a Dana 35 and you put in a D44. A D44 auto drive shaft will be tight on a D44 but just right on a D35. You'll need to get a pilot bushing for a 73 AMC V8 with a 3 speed. Unless you buy a 92. Might need the pedal assembly too, not positive on that. Grab it while you can. Unless it's a 91-92. -
Probably stop in this weekend. I'm all set for parts right now. I part out XJ's and the occasional MJ myself.
-
All the 87-90's will be the same regardless what transmission or transfer case it comes out of.
-
You're in back of broadway, correct? I'll have to dig around this weekend to look for it. I'll have one that's for a 4.10 gear set. I'll have to pull it tomorrow.
-
2002 and a 3.7 engine would be a liberty I would think.
-
If the sensor gear what gear ratio? 3.07? Also tire size. I may have what you need.
-
The actual gear in the transmission or the gear on the shaft for the speedo sensor?

Bent My Dana 30 Looking For Axle Swap Options
FrankTheDog replied to Zebvance's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Take the outer knuckle off and grind out the welds that hold it to the tube. Measure the length of your original axle shaft then measure the new one and remove that distance from the end of the tube. Clean up the end of the tube and inside of knuckle and reassemble. That's the short version, there should be plenty of reading on the web if you search. -
Possible Transfer Case Problem?

Have you checked the fluid level in the transfer case? -

A 1977 1/2 - 1979 F250 high pinion Dana 44 or 73 - 77 F150 HP D44. You will want to narrow them. Also 85-91 wagoneer D44. You can narrow the Ford axles using Wagoneer shafts. The F250's will have 1/2" tubes, F150 either 5/16" or 3/8" A couple outfits make trusses to mount the control arm mounts. As far as knuckles you would want the F150 knuckles on any of the axles. -
Buy the truck, find a dirt road or field or a wet road. Put it in four low, that'll make it really easy to learn standard. That's how I taught my girls how to drive stick. The ax15 has a fairly low first gear so it isn't all that hard in 2 high either. It took me about twenty minutes to learn on my 1970 maverick when I was 16. Three on the tree.

Closed Cooling System On A 1991 4.0 Ho
FrankTheDog replied to FrankTheDog's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I believe it was marked 10/14/90 on the computer. The rear hatch has the 4.0 Litre High Output emblem. I sent a picture of the engine bay and rear hatch to Eagle. The computer is there next to the airbox. The fuel rail has the HO regulator. There is no rats nest of vacuum lines by the power steering pump. Has a nice wiring job instead of wires running randomly about the engine bay like a renix. The windshield washer tank is mounted next to the brake cylinder like the earlier XJ's. PDC is mounted on left fender. It definitely is an HO motor with HO controls and wiring. I'll get more info from it the next time I go there. I've seen enough of both to know the difference, hence the question. -
:yeah that:Make it mopar, put a 5,9 in it! Jeeps had Chevy and Buick engines in them long before they had ChryCo engines.

Tsm Who Has It & Were To Buy From
FrankTheDog replied to hassyfoto's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I picked up off of ebay a 1992 factory manual set that included the body/drivetrain, electrical components and wiring diagrams, right hand drive supplement and service bulletin book for $110 shipped. The books were in much better shape than the ebay set. My 1995 FSM has most everything in one book, it's pretty cumbersome. Definitely worth having. -
Spark Plug Gaps Please Help

It's not going to make any difference. Using the sonoma settings will be fine.
