  1. Congrads on that new truck. It looks very clean. You southerners make me sick. We have this thing up here in Indiana called salt. If I drove my comanche in year aound, the salt would eat it so fast, I doubt it would make it out of the driveway. :rotf:
  2. i thought that at first also. the lever is in 2wd but the part time light is on the info display. its funny how they always say there's some problem.....but it should be easy to fix.......so how come its not fixed? Maybe the front tires are different than the back. Eagle mentioned it looked like it was stuck between 2wd and 4wd. Maybe they put it in 4-low on dry pavement and the rest is history? :dunce:
  3. When you look at the driver side photo, it looks like the front tire is a different size than the back. It could be an optical illusion though.
  4. I sort of went through the same thing a few years ago. The school I selected wasnt too intellectually challenging since I am not the best student on the planet. But it was still a huge commitment of time. The good news is once I finished, there is a great sense of accomplishment that never goes away.
  5. Salesmen too stupid to know how to spell "though"? Unless he meant to say "4X4 HAS A NOISE WHEN THOU ENGAGES IT"? :rotfl2:
  6. I don't know why Chevy gets dogged on so bad. Not necessarly here but in the media. I have two tahoes that are starting to get up there in years and they take quite a bit of abuse and are doing very well. I guess if it is not a toyota, it is not trendy enough.
  7. Does anyone know what he is talking about with the mounting holes? I have an '87 with the original factory bumper and fog lights. I looked and have only one set of mounting holes. I measured them and they are exactly 1' 7" apart (center to center). You should be able to see them on my link. They were centered to the third "panel" on each side of my grill if that makes sense. By the way, not to hijack the thread but I have the ROL fog lights. I assume those are no longer available? Does the Jeep lens caps from the ROL fogs fit the Marchals?
  8. Wow, you are in sane. By the way, you wouldnt want to borrow my truck for the winter would you??? :clapping:
  9. Great idea. I owned two jeeps back in the day and I wish I kept them both. Always wanted new cars. One was a Grand Cherokee Orvis. I look back at that and think it was a nice truck. Why did I get rid of that? Never sell a jeep.
  10. Check the post office bulletin board. Maybe he is wanted?
  11. Nice job on bringing that old girl back to life. I must admit I am a little surprised at the amout of rust on a Mexico truck. I don't suppose you get a lot of snow down there. At least not like Indiana.
  12. Wow, this sickens me. I would love to get ahold of that diesel. But I bet my wife would notice another car. :wall:
  13. Is it dead?
  14. I have one of those rubicons. Seeing that is like putting a dress on my Comanche. Man, I feel the flu com'in on. :ack:
  15. I don't want to scare you but in my opinion, insurance adjusters are whores as much as car dealers. Back in 2002, I had a new 6 month old Tahoe z71 with 5,000 miles on it and a lady pulled out in front of me. It was her fault so it was her insurance that needed to pay. It was Progressive Insurance. They were at my work within 2 hours to look at damage. Tahoes are tanks (she needed to be towed, I drove to work :clapping: ). He got on the phone and started calling junkyards looking for used body parts. I told him there was no way they were going to put used parts on a new truck (not to mention illegal). He said it was policy. He didnt get far because there were none available but you get my point. The body mechanic told me never use any insurance company that markets using an 800 number (Geico too). I just bought a new car awhile back. I can't begin to tell you how bad I was treated in that deal but car dealers is another post. I found out there is such a thing as classic vehicle insurance. My understanding is that it is not terribly expensive. I may look into it. Just be careful.
  16. You guys have it all wrong. Make a deal to take her on a vacation as long as you can buy the truck. You would be amazed what they will do for a vacation. :clapping:
  17. I am not so sure you can talk them down much even with cash in hand. I am starting to see quite a bit of interest in MJ's lately. Just the other day, I was a at a local shopping mall and in the women's clothing section, they were selling t-shirts that said "I (heart) MJ". :rotf:
  18. I bet it is a repaint too. The frame which is shown in the tire photo is in too good of shape. Plus it is black rather than white. On my '87, the unibody frame was painted the same color as the body.
  19. Hmmm, just what I was thinking...
  20. This will either make you cry or really p&ss you off:
  21. Regarding resetting the odometer, I tried that by following the instructions on this link: http://naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=921205 It may be that I am not mechanically inclined but I ruined the odmeter. Once you remove the small C clip, you are suppose to be able to slide the wheels and turn them. On both of the ones I swaped to, plus my factory guage, there is a notch built into the bracket to keep those wheels from sliding over to allow them to be adjusted. After some luck, I was able to get them to turn freely but then they didnt move as I drove down the road. So I got the privilege of doing it a second time. :dunno: Since the faces on the gauges are a different color, I thought it would be worth a try to remove the face from the new speedo and the original. Then put my original guage in the cluster with the new face on it. The face is held in by a couple of screws. But I tried removing the needle from the broken speedo and the needle wouldn't come out. So now my comanche that has 85k miles on it now has 160k miles on it.
  22. Do you think you could have asked which salvage yard it was going to? Then you could have gotten parts from it. I live over by Columbia City. There are not too many comanches around our area, good or bad. :wall:
  23. Very nice you lucky dog. By the way, what is that thing on the side of the passenger door? It looks like a big wad of chewing gum. I would never find anything like that in Indiana.
  24. Here is a picture of my '87 comanche. I am the first and third owner of it. It spent all last summer in the body shop while we were looking for elusive comanche parts. They are going fast in northern Indiana. But I was very happy with how it turned out. If you want to see how it looked, there is a link on my signature. Here is how the inside looked. It is in pretty good shape but it had that big, way too soft, uncomfortable bench seat with no head rest. I hated it the day we bought the truck. It felt like it had broken down. I have looked at every junkyard in the surrounding area. About 10 or so different ones and I never found any black buckets. So, awhile back, I saw that mfpdm (aka Paul) was selling a lot of parts so I pm'd him. He said he didnt have any but he knew where some were at. So Paul pulled them for me and had them shipped to me. Kudos to Paul. Pretty cool considering we don't even know one another. Here is the interior and how it looks now. Even my wife approves. When I got them, Paul suggested I remove the seat covers from the seats and run them through the laundry. They were in such good shape that I was afraid to do that. I was sure Paul was out of his mind so I thought I would give it a try and sure enough, he was right. They came out of the wash looking great. He suggested I not use any fabric softener because the smell would linger for quite awhile. That was good thnking. I would go further and say don't use any deterent with a scent. It stays and will not go away. Also, these seats will not tilt forward (4 door Cherokee). There was a 2 door cherokee at a local junkyard that had the same style seat as these except they are maroon plad. I bought those thinking maybe someday, I would swap the seat covers. I doubt I will but just in case. This is not my daily driver so getting back behind the seat is low priority to me. Swapping the seat covers is a little risky anyway because the tilt seats would require a slit to be cut in the sides to accomdate the tilt lever. I am sure I would mess that up. It sits so much better with these buckets. Thanks again Paul!
  25. Sorry about this... :hijack: I was curious, I see you went to 4.10's for street driving. What did you have originally and how did it improve your street driving?
