  1. Those wheels...Seeing stuff like that makes me feel old and out of touch. But the pink steering wheel cover, I thought everyone had one of those. :)

    gold

I am a purist. I would love to have gold rims for a golden eagle. But only for a golden eagle. Honestly, I am sort of glad the whole "gold trim" fad has ended.
  3. I have another old car with a padded dash that is prone to dash cracks. I was told to use Vaseline on it (sparingly of course). Makes sense to me. This is obviously prevention rather than a cure.
  4. Nice. I am on my third 240z. I think I will stop now. :)
  5. For a fleeting moment, I considered selling mine. It is a stock '87 4.0 5 speed 4wd. I was asking $6k. I say stock but it has been repainted. The mechanicals and suspension are all stock though. Had I lifted it, I doubt it would be worth half that on the open market. I sense that the stock ones are starting to go up in value. Not very fast but they are still going up.
  6. Just a heads up, When I ordered mine, the spring manufacturer said there were 4 variations for the standard '87 4.0 shortbed. That made replacing mine very confusing. After I replaced them, I saw a 3/4" lift in the rear so I needed to upgrade my front coils to a 3/4" lift so they would match.
  7. Sorry for the delayed response. I was curious if you bought this? 280z (not to be confused with the 280zx) is appreciating but not as fast as the older 240z ( I am on my third 240z). Those have become very collectable. If this was a 2+2, I don't think those are desirable at all. The dash tear is very common but the rust issues can be significant. You may not be able to flip it but you may be able to part it and still come out ahead, especially if the motor runs and the tranny shifts well. gl
  8. I disagree. There are few things as reliable as a properly set up carburetor. Fuel injection may provide better fuel economy across a wider variety of operating conditions, but I have always believed that you have a better chance of limping home with a carburetor than you do with fuel injection. The '95 Chrysler injection system is pretty good, but IMHO there's a certain amount of "cool" factor to running a carburetor. The trick is deciding what carburetor, and then sizing it. If I were doing it, I'd be looking for a progressive 2-barrel, with a small primary venturi and a larger secondary venturi. (Of course, I'm not sure such a thing exists, but I think so.) Or go all-out and get a triple Weber setup ... Eagle, triple webers are blasphemy. Dual SU carbs all the way.
  9. I am sure I have hit 70mph in mine. The question was how fast have you driven it. Not how fast can it go. Right? Regarding how fast it can go, its a stock '87 with 85k miles. The engine is like new. So whatever those are rated at... Driving an mj fast is not high on my bucket list.
  10. I had a fey mounted on my mj for a couple of years. I used the MJ brackets. I think the holes on the MJ brackets needed enlarged IIRC.
  11. Whereabouts in Indiana?
  12. I need to get in on this rant. I don't understand it either. I recently bought an old Datsun car. It seems the "in" thing on those poor cars is to lower them by a inch or so. Why anyone would cut the factory springs on a 45 year old classic car is beyond me. Then they put rubber band tires on the poor thing. My truck was Comanche of the month a few years ago. I am ashamed of my Comanche of the month photos because I didn't fix the rake in my springs yet. It looks like I lowered it in the front. How embarrassing.
  13. for those that are considering purchasing these in the future, when I was restoring my MJ, I saw these for sale in ebay. I cannot remember the name of the company that was selling them. Anyway, they shipped 4 of them to me. Some came from one location. Others came from another location. All 4 looked good. However, the color of the clearcoat didn't match. There were 3 noticeable colors in the set of 4. I disputed it with them and they would not returns. They claimed they sold 4 wheels to me. Not a set of 4???? They sent me return labels only after I disputed it with my credit card company. The moral of the story is if you buy a set, make sure they all came from the same company from the same location. I eventually sent my 4 factory wheels off to a company called Transwheel (spelling may not be exact). They match.
  14. I would suggest leaving it alone. I am amazed at the infatuation with black interior. While it looks nice, other colors look great too. Tan is my personal favorite. Black will be expensive if you get it reupholstered. If you chose not to paint, black parts will be difficult if not impossible to find. It was in production for only a couple years.
  15. I don't mean to be dogging on it but how do they know it is rust free until they take the flairs off? That is where the surprises start. Mine was rust free at 60k miles.
  16. I'm with him. My '87 came with one of these in black. I haven't seen one yet that I like as well as this. In fact, when someone sits in my truck, their first comment is how comfortable the seats are. Then they comment about the steering wheel. But then again, maybe its an "old guy" thing... :laughin:
  17. My '87 does the same thing. The transmission mounts need replaced.
  18. Automan, I hope you are aware that you have problems. :rotf:
  19. I think that is actually a modified 240Z. '70 - '72 to be exact.
  20. FYI, I bought a NOS pair of AMC mj mud flaps on ebay for about $40-$50 about a year ago. I bought them because they were there. I already had a set. Just be patient.
  21. I think I told you previously, I am a sucker for those tube bumpers too. I wished you still had that.
  22. Just leave it alone...
  23. I can't help but notice how expense NOS tail lights are selling for on Ebay. I cannot emphasize how "unnoticeable" they are once they are installed. You would not notice the difference between a good used set and a new set. I put nos taillights on mine a couple years ago and I never notice they are there. If you can steal a NOS pair, I would certainly do it but a good used set at a JY for $25 is just as good. I would really encourage you to save your money. This has been a public service announcement.
  24. Controversial topic (and comment here) so hopefully no one takes offense. My wife likes them quite a bit too. But my stomach can't tolerate the look. The "FJ" name always caused me to snicker too (fake Jeep). My wife wanted an suv and with so many of them loosing their frame, I found one that felt like a tank. She ended up with a 4 runner (TRD pro to be exact). TRD comes with an enhanced front suspension and Bilstein shocks. Plus it comes with a full frame underneath. I think it is the last small suv that does. It rides like our old '96 Grand Cherokee did. Toyota also did some nice extras to protect the sheet metal from harsh winters too (although you may not care about that). 260hp IIRC. My personal opinion is the front of the TRD pro looks pretty god but "Non TRD Pro" version of the 4 runner takes some getting used to. But the rest of the truck makes up for it. It feels larger than it is. Plus if you hold out, you can get one in orange....
