still pretty sure my (quick and clean) method works. :D also, I've seen gear sets without stampings on them. :fs2: counting teeth sucks.

that would only work on leaf sprung vehicles. on yours, the track bar is what lets you turn.

gotta figure out what gear ratio you have now before thinking of upgrading. What injection system are you contemplating? swapping gears in an axle can cost up to 600 per axle. is that in the budget? What size tires are you going with?

bad rings can cause the oil blowby, but it is FAR more common for a struggling CCV system to cause it. :thumbsup: also, you could just put a catch bottle inline before the filter to keep the oil from getting to it. Have you done a compression test yet? that would tell you if your rings are bad. I'd hate to see you do a whole engine swap for nothing.

I've been told that the FI system in an early 90s Camaro is fairly easy to wire in. Bonus that it comes on a 3.4L v6 that goes right in to your truck reusing the mounts and exhaust and trans. :D

what gear ratio do you have now? Which rear axle? What size tires are you looking to run? not sure what your plan is on the FI, but grabbing an early 90s Camaro with the 3.4 and wiring in the injection makes for a good combo.

snow tires are awesome. :D My minivan is unstoppable (until I touch the brake pedal, then it is stoppable. :yes: ) can't wait 'til I can get both snow tires and awd together. :banana:

yup. you turn the tires around with your hands. and count the times the driveshafts rotates during the same period. all will become obvious when you try it. :D

I believe that was a cherokee thing.

jack up one rear wheel, put the truck in neutral so the tire spins, rotate the tire around exactly twice while counting the number of times the driveshaft rotates. 3 and a half times around is 3.55, 4 times is 4.10 etc. If you have a posi rear, you'll need to jack up both tires and then spin them around only once.

are the aftermarket ones rebuilt? Are the Jeep ones brand new?

I drove back to MI from GA last night. the last 4 hours being particularly interesting. first rain, then freezing rain, then hail, then snow. blizzard winds the entire way. Thankfully running out of windshield washer fluid coincided with an abrupt drop in temperature and the crap falling from the sky stopped sticking to my windshield. :dunno: snow tires ftw! :D Then I drove about town digging friends and family out. Now I wake up and get to do that all over again. free exercise. :D couldn't help but notice that it's still snowing. :fs2:

done it many times now. :thumbsup: my sis moved to GA years ago and my parents got a house nearby soon after, so it's become a pretty routine journey. 11.5 hours on a real good day, 15 is the record high. :ack: It's easier with multiple drivers. :yes: We used to drive straight through to Disney World. now a days I fly to GA and then we drive from there. 7.5 hours seems like nothin'. :D

after 12 hours I made it home. snow tires rock. heading back into the thick of it to move some snow around in an orderly fashion. that is all. :cheers:
