1. 30x9.5s won't rub anywhere. 31x10.5s may rub a tiny bit on the control arms when at full lock. this can be remedied by adjusting the steering stops of swapping on WJ lower control arms (which have a bend in them for tire clearance) 31s on Jeep rims (from a ZJ) under a stock 4wd with and WJ arms:
2. well you can get tapatalk for your daily comancheclub fix.
3. I would check the level of the oil in the trans before contemplating a swap. mine always gave me fits when the level dropped.
4.
3.73 is one of the hardest ratios to find in a HP Dana 30. I would find one of those before paying money for a 3.73 rear (which is fairly common in an 8.8). although if you don't mind a low pinion, there are plenty of TJ or ZJ Dana 30s that came with the 3.73s. :D

and 300 for an axle that is in good shape and doesn't need a brake/seal rebuild isn't all that bad. be picky about any axle you buy. just because it's a good deal doesn't necessarily mean it's a good idea.

5. If a 350 is difficult to keep cool, I can only imagine a 383.
6. all publicity is good publicity, right? :dunno: but seriously, what I wouldn't do to get my hands on that truck.... :brows:
7. It has been done (with varying degrees of success), but it isn't all that common for a couple reasons: -Be prepared to either spend a ton of money, or build everything yourself. nothing is cheap in the land of 350 conversions. -Be prepared to kiss most if not all of your current drivetrain goodbye. It wasn't designed to handle a 350's torque. -Be prepared to fight cooling issues. XJs and MJs go into v8 conversions with one hand tied behind their back because our smaller grill opening doesn't really lend itself to keeping a v8 cool. I don't mean to discourage you, just want to give you an idea of what you're up against.
8. no no. when I said "match" I just meant that it matches a dana 30 in width and bolt pattern and they can be paired together under your truck. you cannot use the 8.8 as a front. regearing is not easy and not for a beginner and regearing can cost 600-800 depending on the shop that does it. a more economical way to do it is to find an explorer 8.8 or Cherokee 8.25 with 4.10 gears already in them and then find a Dana 30 with 4.10 gears and install them. car-part.com can help find them in junkyards.
9. :waving: welcome to the addiction!
10. It's a rear axle. I meant that it will match your front axle in width and rim bolt pattern. Other 8.8s, like from an F-150 or crown vic have a different width or bolt pattern from our Jeeps. what gear ratio do you have now?
11. what is the 8.8 out of? only the Explorer version will match the front axle. and 95+ have disk brakes. earlier ones have drums.

I like this one better :D rumor has it he's coming out with another edition (that my truck may or may not also be in again).
13. yeah, my dad learned that the hard way too.
14. Meh, I never did care for the slow and boring "passive" methods. :D and unless you like the smell of your engine bay, don't vent it into your cowl. :( simply having the hole in my hood has made it a necessity to have the cooling fan running on the freeway, otherwise the fumes waft inside. the fan seems to push the smell out into the air steam and away from the cab.
15. Comanches have an extra brace that supports the LCA mounts. Cherokees don't have this and if the drop brackets were designed for an XJ, then they may not work on an MJ. some do, but some don't.
16. "drop brackets vs. no brackets" isn't really about flex. Other things like spring rate, shocks stiffness, and sway bars are bigger factors in that. The big thing that drop brackets do is bring your control arms back to level after lifting so you get a better on-road ride.
17. yes. you just need to trim the ends of the steel bushings and they are a perfect match. also, the bigger bushing goes towards the rear of the truck.
18. is the track bar good for 5.5", or is it the one that came with the truck, or what?
19. street view still has that minivan in the driveway we owned back in like 05. :dunno: but the overhead is more recent. :D
