  2. And if anyone has steel wheels and lives in the rust belt, I recommend putting a dab of anti-seize on the drums where the rim contacts it. Nothing ruins your day like being stranded on the side of the road with a simple flat tire but you can't get the bad tire off. :( (happened with my sisters TJ when she was running the rusty rims off my 86 MJ)
  3. But in my opinion you shouldn't even be thinking about mpg when looking into gears to match 35s. You should be thinking about what gears would best put the engine into that sweet spot of torque in the power band. Doing that would produce the best drive-ability (and as a bonus that should also give you the the best mpg). I would go with 4.88s personally, but 4.56 should be fine too. But regardless, if you've got 35s right now with stock gears, any of the 4.xx ratios will produce better mpg so you should see some improvement either way.
  4. If mpg is anywhere in your head, you probably should be sticking with 235s. But regardless, with 35s you should contemplating 4.56 or 4.88s. The deeper the gearing, the better.
  5. The last time I struggled with a drum it was due to the shoes wearing into the drum and creating a little ridge on the inside edge that kept the drum from sliding off.
  6. There seems to be no way of knowing how far a 35 will go. Some last, some don't. But you can bet money that you won't find me running one in any of my trucks. I've got an AMC 20, a 9", and a D-44. The next one is likely to get an Explorer 8.8.

  8. Although I doubt that someone who hasn't played halo would get the same enjoyment out of it. I had tears in my eyes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jz3br1q5 ... re=related And there are other installments. :brows:
  9. I killed my D35 with 30s on the street. It started spitting ring gear teeth.
  10. The perches are in the wrong spot.
  11. What? I thought you were Norwegian. EXIT STAGE LEFT :rotfl2: :shake:
  12. Apparently it is because they say it is. No other reason. The irony is that the bot scouts never intended it to be a political statement for the war, but the people complaining about it are certainly making a political statement against the war. Looks like the troop got verbal permission to do it too.

His last name is LaPorte. And I've got the address I sent the stickers to. I'll PM it to Jeepco.
  14. You guys/gals can talk about almost anything you want as long as you follow rule number 1. http://comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1239
  15. If I can remember how to do them. What did you have in mind?
  16. The stickies are only temporary. Just for everyone to read through it with suggestions, or ideas to expand the knowledge base in the project. Then the original author can have a chance to modify the steps or photos or whatever. When everything is said and done, I'll copy/paste it to the DIY forum for reference and remove the sticky.
  17. Nope. The manufacturer was out of town last week and I don't know what their excuse is for this week. I stopped by today but only the hired help was there, not the owner. I'll be trying again tomorrow.
  18. I live near Detroit. I was being serious. :brows: I saw a late 80s Taurus the other day that had the entire trunk crushed in and the guy had taped some taillights onto the wreckage. No joke.
  19. Car looks fine to me. :dunno: Although in my area I see cars like that on the road all the time. Might want to get the alignment checked though. :D
  20. I had 30x9.5 BFGs on my 88 back in the day with no rubbing that I remember. I had the aluminum rims though. With steel you'd be guaranteed a bit of rubbing since they pull the tire in a slight amount.
  21. I'd pass too. If I remember right, the really trick thing to do is to find a Ford fullsize front 44 (either pre-78 F-150 or 78-79 if you're going to re-tube it, or any year solid axle F-250 but then you need to think about brakes and bolt patterns) and narrow the long side to fit a Grand Waggy axle shaft. Makes it about the right width for an MJ/XJ. Then you just have to figure out a match for the rear. Maybe a Scout rear 44? In my opinion, it's better to start out with the best you can afford rather than the cheapest you can find.
  22. Mine are 2wd (both original and AAL) Shouldn't make much difference but there's only one way to know for sure. :brows: If it's still not enough, you could add in the XJ leaf too, but I'd start with the MJ one to help support the current main
  23. I'd do it too. Oh wait, I did.
