  1. Moab is AWESOME!!! But personally speaking, the Lion's Back is overrated. It's not the steepest, it's not the narrowest, it just happens to be right smack next to the road. The sandstone provides incredible traction. You can easily idle your truck up obstacles that you would have difficulty walking up without using your hands. It's wicked fun! The scenery is tremendous too. Beautiful country. Totally worth the 24 hour drive to get there. :D
  2. So you can't use the 99 4.0 intake? :(
  3. That's a good question. I don't know how to do that. :hmm:
  4. The diesel 'Burbs can get 20 mpg, are 3/4 ton rated, and can be had for under 5 grand. I like having the extra capability-cushion when towing. Safety is important to me. When I can finally afford to buy a hauler, it'll either be a 'Burb or (if I can float $10k) a diesel Excursion.
  5. Yes, almost all MJs came with the problem-prone vacuum disconnect (CAD).
  6. Shimming the CAD to be engaged all the time will make it exactly like a non-CAD axle. Except that you have the smaller 260 U-joints.
  7. I think the spacing is off, that's all. Probably didn't translate perfectly when it was pasted from wherever he first created it.
  8. Yay, I wish I could be spending all my money on my Jeeps. I'm broke because I'm unemployed. Although, I guess if I had a job, I'd probably still be broke. But I'd have at least one drivable Jeep, that's for sure. :clapping: This post will help you with uploading your pics to a free hosting site: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=11077
  9. Diesel Suburban. :D
  10. Well, the only insight I've got is, on the freeway, the hole in the hood of my 5" lifted 88 pulls air out of the engine compartment (which then finds its way in to the cab :ack: ).
  11. NSS cleaning how-to: http://www.jeepin.com/features/nss/index.asp
  12. put text here I added a space after the first url so you could see the pattern, but that's the format.
  13. Some good reading here: http://www.madxj.com/MADXJ/technical/te ... pgrade.htm
  14. There are like a gagillion photos in the "random" and "introduce" threads right above. As for ideas, that's a pretty broad question. What do you plan to do with the truck?
  15. I believe a ZJ radiator would be too tall. It's more square-shaped than ours.
  16. I don't remember removing the big window in order to swap out the vents. :hmm: It has been a while though.
  17. I always suggest the vent window on the passenger side. They are pretty easy to replace. And if you've got access to some tape, you can cover the window with it and then smash it. Most of the pieces of glass will adhere to the tape making for a slightly easier cleanup.
  18. Mine used to do that. :D The bed twist thing. I had a broken leaf on that side. :shake:
  19. Mine's actually charcoal. ;) That pic just turned out odd.
  20. Or having a small fleet of trucks of your own. Been there, done that with the part-swapping. :D Let us know what you find.
  21. If you wanted to run the NP-242, then you have to have the non-CAD axle. But you don't need a 242 to run the non-CAD axle. The 242 is dependant on the non-CAD, not the other way around. Also, you don't need a little light to tell you you're in 4wd. You've got a big ol' lever for that. :D

    MJs in Movies

It's not uncommon for the movie producers to flip a scene where they felt it looked better to have the action go from left to right rather than right to left.
  23. -Yes, any XJ with fulltime 4wd will be non-CAD. This is because if the CAD was accidentally disengaged while driving in AWD (like if the vacuum line was snagged by a branch), the t-case would pretty much self destruct in short order. The CAD was phased out in the early 90s and was completely gone by 94. -The Bigger U-joints were found in ABS equipped XJs in the early 90s and then all XJs had them starting halfway though 94 if I remember that right. -In 2000, the XJ got the low pinion Dana 30. -The axle shafts with the bigger U-joints (either from an XJ or TJ) can be easily swapped into an older Dana 30, even a CAD Dana 30.

He;'s referring to the image used on that movie website. It shows the MJ and the fuel door is on the wrong side.
