  1. My first question is; what's the spline count on that 242?
  2. relative rarity. As compared to 231s.
  3. The AX-15 has some value due to relative rarity, but np-231 t-cases are everywhere.
  4. Yeah, make sure you sleeve the hole if you plan to pop a bolt all the way through. The frame is just sheetmetal after all. Or you could do like me and just push the DOM from the rocker guard all the way through and weld it up on both sides. :D
  5. 3.07 is the stock gears for a 4.0/stick, but I would never try to match that in the charts. 3.07s suck and I wouldn't want the same tire-to-gear ratio as stock. Given the circumstances above, I would do 4.56. I have a 4.0/stick with 33s and 4.10s and I'd like a bit more gearing. With 31s it should be fine. There are factory rigs out there (the Isuzu Rodeo comes to mind) that came with 4.10 and even deeper gears and they had tires smaller than 31s.
  6. Don't forget to add maybe a half-inch for a 3" lift.
  7. I would do a new timing chain and call it a day for the internals.
  8. car-part.com might be of help in hunting down an AX-15. Search under a 91 XJ and then a 91 YJ, then a 96 TJ (might show different results than the YJ). (and a tip, don't ever tell a shop to "do whatever it takes". lots of scary stuff happens.) AX-15 on the left. Notice the line of bolts running along the top (and bottom) of the Peugeot.
  9. Yeah, I gotta feeling you're blazing new territory putting MJ flares on an explorer. Maybe they'll improve it's looks. :D XJ rear flares may fit it better in the back since they are a tad smaller.
  10. Personally, I wouldn't pay more than $200 for a 20 year old axle that I'm going to gut anyway when I gear it for bigger tires.
  11. About the same here. Being able to talk with the person who last drove it can bump the price a bit. Junkyard warranties mean little if you don't plan to use the parts for quite a while.

    One Year.......

Yeah, sure, rub it in. Some of us haven't driven some of their MJs for a lot longer. :( :D
  13. I got it. I'll send it out next chance I get.
  14. I'm not sure if the expanding foam I used absorbs water or not, but it sure as heck made a dam that kept water in. :( My bed sides rotted even faster than before.
  15. I believe 88 would have an internal slave.
  16. Yes, pretty much. Also, don't hold you breath for the photo of that truck. I won't lay eyes on my home 'puter 'til the 6th. :(
  17. Unless you go to 4.88s, I wouldn't worry all that much about the ratio affecting your fuel economy. Higher engine rpm does NOT directly equate to more gas being used, since the injectors will likely be pumping in less fuel per stroke because it's easier to maintain speed. The best gas mileage comes from small tires with non-aggressive tread. Anything you do after that will only hurt. Maybe not much, but generally it's hard to beat stock. Also, if you have one, please don't spend any money on a Dana 35. Invest your money into something that will last.
  18. The 06 CRD at my house has an engine heater. Never had an issue in the cold (I think about 10* is the coldest it's seen so far). They have a different maintenance schedule and you need to adhere to it. Different filters, different oils, different time intervals. And it makes different noises and vibrations than a gas powered rig. We love it and we've put about 80k miles on it. There were some teething issues in 05, but they should all have been in for warranty work to fix all that by now (egr and TQ problems mostly). lostkjs.com has some good info for your reading pleasure. http://www.lostkjs.com/forum/phpBB2/vie ... 3f95a28941 Most of all I love pulling up next to the big rigs at the freeway fuel stations. :D I get all sorts of weird looks. Occasionally an attendant will run out to warn me I'm putting diesel into my Jeep. :clapping:
  19. In my humble opinion, bushwackers + 31s = goofy. They are a huge flare. I'd show you a picture of an MJ with that combo, but I'm not at my computer at the moment. :(
  20. WJ LCAs and fuggetaboutit. :D 31s on Jeep rims are much easier to accommodate than 31s on aftermarket rims when dealing with small lifts.
  21. Yes, the angles should be just fine. Take the opportunity to install new U-joints in the rear shaft.

  23. I have the 4.0 engine with an auto trans, I think is the AW4 it has overdrive. what do you think about this problem? thanks! A 4.0L/stick/shortbed MJ will have a rear shaft about one inch longer than yours and would make a great fix.

  25. And Pull-a-part north has 17 cherokees and is also on the way to Newnan.
