  1. It might be a combination of everything. the engine isn't making quite as much power, the tires are slightly bigger, the clutch is a bit worn. The reason I ask about the tires, I stepped up to 30s in my 4.0 '88 (back when it was 2wd) and noticed the same thing you're experiencing, just from the tire size increase. when the rear axle blew up, I swapped from 3.07s to 3.55s and it all went away and i was happy again. :D
  2. Did you have a spring mount?
  3. a lot of the parts are swappable. I had to swap speedo gear shafts when I put the 242 into my 90.
  4. If your carpet is soaked underneath, that means water is leaking in from somewhere. Make sure you find and fix the leak before putting the carpet back in.
  5. Can you get a photo of the 05 speedometer hookup? If the 05s work like the older ones, you should be able use the parts from yours.
  6. I'd probably just go with a hose clap or zip tie. All you need to do is pull it away from the tire a bit.
  7. I'd much prefer the NP-231 that comes in a Jeep to the 205. That thing weighs infinite pounds and has a crappy low range ratio. Mate it to the manual trans of that era and you'll be doubling that infinity. I had the pair that came out of my 78 Bronco and there's no freaking way I was going to even try to support that kind of weight in my truck. :ack: It sounds good on paper, but sucks in real life.
  8. then it should bolt up fine. They should both be 23 spline.
  9. I've never even seen such a spring. :dunno: But then, I live in Michigan. :(
  10. do you have spark? are you sure fuel is getting into the engine?
  11. what size tires?
  12. what engine in the wrangler?
  13. TJ, KJ, YJ, ZJ, XJ, MJ all have rims that work great. when looking at other makes and models, be aware that many (if not most) will not be hub-centric on our rigs.
  14. The ebrake sets off the light? Guess I'd never would have known that (seeing as I don't have a functional ebrake in the fleet).
  15. Welcome! :waving: What condition is your tank in? rusty?
  16. yup, the t-case will be rotated up a bit. I've got a TJ ax-15 and 231 in my 88 and the clearance is tight, but no contact yet. :D I did nip off a small tab of aluminum just in case.
  17. tech questions should really go in the tech forum. don't know about the column, but the center console came out of a cherokee. they had the center E-brake. MJs have the foot pedal.
  18. sleep is for wusses. :D
  19. all you need to do is jack up one rear tire, put trans in neutral, and spin that tire around 2 full revolutions. Note how many times the driveshaft rotates and you will have your gear ratio. There are only so many number possibilities so it's a pretty fool-proof way to find out.
  20. but not in a Comanche (MJ).
  21. number below it looks like a part number: 5300 5504 don't know what it is though. :dunno:
  22. DW is caused/allowed by slop in the front suspension system. this can be a single worn part, or a combination of several semi-worn parts that let the oscillation grow uncontrollably. No two rigs are alike, and DW can be an infuriating problem. :fs1:
  23. as per usual, you'd better PM or email Rick directly if you want any hope of him making it.
  24. there's no real reason to have to keep the original post separate from the comments if later cleanliness is the concern. as mods we can copy it at any time and paste them together to keep a cleaner "MJs of the Month" thread once we have more than one in the bag. In my head I was picturing a sticky thread with the old MJotM rigs, and a separate sticky thread with the most recent one, and floating posts in the ether with the past MJotMs and their discussions. I'm not sure I want a whole 'nuther forum. we should be able to handle it within the framework we have. Oh, and the thread with the past MJotMs will have links to the old discussions should anyone have comments later on. Nothing is set in stone so keep the comments coming.
