I've got my old 2WD leafpacks sitting in a barn up in PA, but they are across the state from you. You gonna be anywhere near Pittsburgh anytime soon? If so, I can tell you where they are and you can go pick them up. PM me if interested.... Jeff

2.5 liter driving issues after warm
mjeff87 replied to JRW racing's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
^^^what he said  Try unplugging your O2 sensor and driving it to see if the problem goes away. If it does, replace it. I had a random problem like yours once when I was still running the 2.5, chased it for over a month trying to figure it out. One day as it was acting up, I popped the hood and started unplugging things to try to diagnose. As soon as I pulled the O2 connector apart the idle smoothed out and it ran normally. I drove it unplugged for a couple months, then plugged it in and it ran normally again for a bit then started acting up again. Replaced the sensor and never had the problem again. Jeff -
:ack: ruh-roh.....I've been watching TS Katia since it developed off the African coast a couple days ago. The track it has taken so far is eerily, if not almost identical, to Isabel's track back in 2003. Hopefully it will recurve back out to sea and be a fish storm, I don't want to go thru another Isabel ever again, especially now right after Irene bombed us out. It's been 5 days and counting now, still no power at the house :( waiting, and watching... Jeff

beers have been on ice since Saturday mid-afternoon.....that was priority #1 :D Maybe getting ready for round 2 later on next week here (again), there's another one brewing out in the Atlantic and it's on an almost identical track as Isabel was back in 2003. If this one plays out the wrong way it's really gonna start to suck here..... http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/graphics_at2.sh ... l#contents Jeff

Thx Don, but I'll pass  The local Lowe's just got a truckload of 5500W gennies in, and I am the new proud owner of one of them. They sold 40 of them in 45 minutes, and I got the third-to-last one. While I was loading it onto a cart, the other two went. Jeff edit: WOW!^^^^

we've been without power since about 2 PM on Saturday, and probably won't get it back until tomorrow (maybe.....). Everything was going good for me until last night when my generator shut off out in the driveway. Went out thinking it ran out of gas, and noticed oil sprayed all over the front of my garage door. Threw the rod right through the side of the crankcase :fs1: And of course, there's not a generator to be found anywhere on the east coast right now....anybody got one I can borrow for a day or so? I'm willing to drive a fair distance to buy/borrow one. My brother is trying to find one for me up in PA, but it seems all the stores outside the impact area decided to wrap up all their inventories and send them east. Crap. Jeff

I'm about 30 miles from the epicenter, we had a small shake followed by a much larger one that lasted for about 10-15 seconds. Cell phone networks are fubared around here now, some minor building damages but otherwise all is ok... Jeff

Piston Skirt.... how much work to replace or....?
mjeff87 replied to guckingfuy's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
 glad to help..... You're gonna need the frame horns and engine mounts from the 4.0 as well. The 2.5 ones look the same, but they are not. All of the bolt holes/studs are there in the framerails, just line the 4.0 ones up and bolt them in. Jeff -
just put the same one on my MJ a couple months ago when I changed the radiator.....can't remember where I got it though (rockauto maybe? it was listed as a "high flow" housing). Front of it does come dangerously close to the serp belt, but clears it by about 1/4" or so, no problems so far. Image Not Found Jeff

I just replaced radiators in both my TJ and MJ within the last couple of months, and went with radiatorbarn.com The most incredibly fast shipping I've ever experienced (like ordered online in the afternoon and both times the new rad was sitting on my porch when I got home from work the next day :D ) Jeff

Frozen Rear Brake Line Connection to Hose
mjeff87 replied to RDAN1's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
small pipewrench on the fitting..... Jeff -
4.56's came under 87-89 XJ/MJ's with the 2.5 and AW4 trans....pretty rare combo, but they do exist. The D30 under my MJ came from one out of my local junkyard 4.56's with a 4.0/AX15 and 35's is just about perfect for me. Jeff

I'm running the AA line and fittings on mine as well (external slave).....I agree 100% with you. For anyone considering this mod, be advised AA sells two different sizes of braided line, 48" and 60" IIRC. The shorter one will "work" but you have to route it very carefully so you have enough slack to get from point A to point B. Spend the extra couple bucks and get the longer line. Jeff

thanks y'all.... we just drive back home to VA this morning to take care of some business here and get more clothes and whatnot, heading back up to PA in the morning for the rest of the week to take care of mom and be with family. 4200 miles on my TJ in the last 5 weeks.....not fun. We're in the wife-mobile now ;) Jeff

Sorry I haven't been "around" much in the last couple months, but my mom developed inoperable brain cancer and I've been spending alot of time with her and the family up here in PA. Sadly (but fortunately), mom passed away yesterday morning. Her 72nd birthday would have been tomorrow... Jeff

glad you made it thru ok Don  Same storm system is about to pass thru my backyard here in about an hour or so.....already a couple tornados late last night west of us and a few are now breaking out north. Came to work with the chainsaw in the back of the Jeep in case I need it to get home tonight ;) Jeff

I DD an '01 TJ......while I really like it and it's a far different driving experience than an MJ or XJ, I wouldn't recommend one (as a DD). Not comfortable for long trips, it gets blown all over the place on the highway in windy conditions, cargo capacity is akward at times (I ditched the back seat two months after buying it, but there's still a bunch of things that just simply don't fit inside of it), and the 2.5L is absolutely gutless. If you do get one, make sure it's a 4.0L. All that said, IMHO it is the best vehicle I've ever driven in snowy conditions hands down. Jeff

trimming is going to depend on your axle width(s) and wheel size/backspacing. I'm running 12.5's on 10" D-slots (which doesn't help me but the wheels were freebies 8) ). My 31's on the TJ are true to size, and I'd expect the 37's to be pretty darn close to 37". I need to cut the fronts and raise the flares up to the horizontal body line on the fender (and bumpstop) to get the most out of the suspension. Right now, I have not-so-much in the front  Jeff
-
I'm running 35" Kuhmo MT's on my MJ with @ 6" lift.......rears are fine but I need to (bumpstop correctly) and trim my front fenders more FWIW. Those Gaurd Dog's have some pretty thick lugs and I'd imagine would be worse than my Kuhmo's. On a related note, I've been running the Gaurd Dogs in 31" flavor on my TJ, and I love them. I just rotated them yesterday after 6K miles and they are still brand new. When the Kuhmo's wear out on the MJ, it will be getting a set of Dogs. You might want to check on availability before you order and plan accordingly.....I had to wait almost a month to get the 31's. Jeff
