  1. Dayem, LOTS of senior moments on this post..........
  2. Ben Dover AND Cheney's Dick :shake:
  3. :agree: w. JT above. And if periodic adjustments are not made to the shoes, drum brake performance deteriorites rapidly. Using Eagle's statistic, I'm sure two-thirds of the junk still running around with drum brakes have ZERO maintainance until they fail, or lose braking force so badly the owners are forced to perform maintainance. With disk brakes, replace the pads (and/or rotors if necessary), adjust the ebrake, then forget about 'em, except for eyeballing the pads once in a while for wear. Disk brake performance stays relatively consistent. I'm all for continuing tradition and love old technology otherwise I would not be driving an MJ. :D But not when it comes to brakes.
  4. I don't know where you got the two-thirds statistic from, but my ebrake works great! Maybe you should convert your front disks to drums too to complete the dinosaur mate. I just don't get it........
  5. Dayem - you beat me! :needpics:

    2 comanches?

Dayem! I was aware of John Wayne, but I thought Steve (my all-time favorite movie hero :D ) drove the same Triumph TR6 650 Trophy he rode in The Great Escape.
  7. No, I put these on a couple of years ago, and no unusual sounds yet. Hmmmm. Wonder if this had anything to do with my recent brake squealing problem? This sounded more like a pig though, but the neighbor's baby was kind of ugly...........
  8. No, really I used baby snot from the neighbors three year old when I put the new weatherstrips. It acts as a great lubricant while installing, then hardens into a flexible adhesive. No problems so far.....
  9. The squealing is history. Problem was the right front; the caliper bracket was squealing on the pins when applying the brakes at low speed. Thanks for the replies.
  10. You can't fix it?
  11. You don't have to accept it and live with it - just junk the antiquated drum brakes and install disk brakes. Simple! :beerhead:
  12. Baby snot..........
  13. Oh crap! Just when I was beginning to really enjoy your crystal clear shots. Dayem.............
  14. AFAIK in VA the parking brake test was just put the tranny in D (or 1st gear) and rev the engine a bit. If it's holding downhill, you should be okay, no? Or have they changed the ebrake test?
  15. Bob-man, that's entirely within the realm of possibility. Highly doubtful, but somewhat possible.
  16. Which thread? I can't find a link Well, it was there. Here's the link: http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6977&hilit=asd+relay
  17. Check out this thread - I think it might help.
  18. Yeah, I'm not crazy about the filtering ability of the oiled filters either, and the oiling is a PITA. I use a 9" long inverted cone oiled filter, but it's probably not that much better than the small Edelbrock in this topic. I noticed that Amsoil makes oil-less universal inverted cone filters now in a variety of sizes. I think I'll look into those. Anyone a dealer on the forum?
  19. Exactly, little. It looks like a lawn mower filter. Wonder what the filtering sq. inch area is....... I have a lot of time and $$ in my engine, and no way I'd stick one of those things on my rig for a primary air filter. It looks like it would be more restrictive than the stock box.
  20. I picked up some hi-temp CRC brake grease today and will do my thing tomorrow on the pad backsides and caliper pins. Hopefully it'll work. Thanks for the tips guys, never had this problem before.
  21. Man, you must be the ultimate snowbird; B.C. to Maui. Enjoy!
  22. Understand, agree, except "Make sure your calipers slide on the mount bolts so they float with the rotor." How do you do that?
  23. I'm getting a little brake squeal when slowing easily for a stop sign or when easing into the garage, stuff like that. Never happens over 5MPH or so, and it sounds like it's coming from the right front, but hard to tell. Pads and rotors look fine, no obvious grooves or wear, are fairly low mileage, and there's no debris stuck between that I can see. Any such thing as an anti-squeal cleaner/spray or what else can I look for?
  24. Naw, not needed for 3" or below. Good for bigger lifts though........ The ZJ pitman arm is a good alternative (read cheaper) to an aftermarket arm for bigger lifts though.
  25. No mods at all, just have to reuse the MJ pitman arm as the ZJ arm hangs about an inch lower. Works great.
