Need to change out a noisy motor in one of my aux fans. Anyone ever successfully remove the fan blade from the motor shaft w/o destroying it? I have the retainer clip and the plate underneath removed, but it seems very stuck on the shaft. :(

Thanks Ren. I'm wondering if the newer ones will look like that too. :hmm:

Will do.

K. Found them in the 97-98 XJ parts manual, p/n 55235410AB, come w. the strip, $12/ea. I'm thinking these will work just fine on the 96 and below doors.

Okay. The seal must be molded to fit the door contour. Parts manual says nothing about the strip on top of the seal though. The rivets must be plastic, right? Damn parts manuals don't show much........
-
Thanks Ren. I just snapped a pic of the door bottom. There are three holes in the middle raised section of the door frame, then two more holes on each end of the door. Does the weatherstrip go across the entire door bottom length? Any way you can send a pic? Gracias amigo.

Hit some heavy rains yesterday while driving, and noticed some water had got in between the lower door and rocker panel. I went to my parts manual and it shows a weatherstrip there called: SEAL, Door to Rocker, 5513 4856, Four Door I have nothing on the lower door except the seal that goes around the entire door to keep out water. The pic from the parts manual is below; it's part #7. Supposed to fit XJs and MJs 84-96. Do you guys have a seal like this in your rigs? How and where does it fasten to the truck?

anyone have a DIY write up for the battery cables

Jon Kelly (5-90 on NAXJA) also provides excellent high quality cables. Great guy too. http://www.geocities.com/JeepI6Power/electric.html -
Options to fix brake caliper

Replace it with a rebuilt. Less time, same $$, and you get a warranty. No brainer.............. -
Swapped in new radiator overflow tank (thanks Jeff!) w. low level coolant sensor to trigger dash indicator lamp.

I've done the stroker and the regearing. If I had to choose between one or the other and had a decent engine, I would do the gears for sure first. Then take my time building a budget stroker. But it's nice to have both. summerinmaine writes: "I get the impression that many of you are thinking $5-600 for a total regear, and if so, I want some of what you're smoking!" Unfortunately, you live in Cali. :chillin: If you take your time searching the yards down here, and it's very possible to do a total regear for *5-600 easily by finding the correct XJ donor. wolfpackjeeper writes: "I have 33's on my cherokee, before the stroker I was saving for a gear swap. Then I popped the motor. SO I took the money and built a stroker. I am actually pretty happy with 3.55's and the torque band of the motor." Looks like you had to do the motor first; no choice. But 33's w. 3.55s has got to suck bad.

:agree: . Matching the correct gears w. your tires gives the best bang for the buck performance gains. And 31" tires w. 4.10 gears are a nearly perfect marriage. Here's how it worked out w. the AW4. 27" tires w. 3.55 gears = 1855 RPM @ 60 MPH & 2474 RPM @ 80 MPH 31" tires w. 4.10 gears = 1879 RPM @ 60 MPH & 2505 RPM @ 80 MPH It moves the power band up about 12%-15% across the board which translates to more grunt off the line, better climbing on long grades, and in my case, a slight improvement in gas mileage.

Here's how I wired my fog lights. I did not have the factory harness, but did use the existing factory fog light dash switch and it's output wire out to the engine bay. Everything after pin 10 on the 10-pin connector in the left front engiune compartment was added. This wiring of course does NOT switch off the fog lights when the headlamp HI beams are on, illegal in some states. Image Not Found

That's 'cause you live in WI (or points north). In vehicles that have lived south of the MD line their entire lives, most all bolts, Torx included, come out pretty easily, although a little persuasion is sometimes nesessary. If it comes out in good shape, I always reuse them, w. a generous dose on anti-seize applied.

"People" will definitely see you when the cop you blind pulls you over over or you get in a head-on w. a 70+ year old lady who couldn't see. Upgrade your lights with the relay harness and a nice set of E-codes or whatever, but make sure they don't blind folks. 8)

:needpics: The new grille I mean. :D

Wasn't the OP asking about a shell? But I'd like to have the option of locking the tailgate too if anyone comes up with a solution. :D

Yeah, that TSP was a stop-gap measure that really didn't work in all cases. When they came out w. the 99+ intakes they got it right curing the injector heat soak issue by issuing yet another TSP that installed heat shield pictured below. I have that shield now on my 99+ intake (thanks Taz) and to date no issues. What this has to do w. your 96 I have no idea, but I don't think your tranny switching problems are caused by injector heat soak, unless that code triggers the limp mode.
-
Yeah, the CEL code prolly puts it into the OBDII "limp" mode to get you home. Err, do you have a code reader? What's the code mate? AND, WTF is this in the Pub? This is a tech issue. Because it's a crappy 96 OBDII XJ?? Lot's of problemos w. them. I had one, constantly threw codes...... :D
-
First thing I'd do is pull the pan and change the filter and look for any metal that shouldn't be there. The new fluid might help too. This could be something as simple as a band adjustment to a bad PCM. As you prolly know, 96 OBDII models don't have the separate TCU modules; all tranny functions are controlled by the PCM. When you cleared the code did it function/shift completely normally? What code did you get?
-
Why? The shell hatch door closes over the tailgate, so when you lock the hatch you can't open the tailgate. But if someone really wants to get in, it'll only slow them down for a second or two.

Some of the shelters here are the same way especially the ones with cutesy names, like Pretty Paw Pets or Happy Canine Acres, etc. ad nauseum. Those bastids don't care about the animals; they're in business to make as many $$ as possible. The municipal shelters run by the cities or counties are mostly squared away though.
