Unusual wheels - I like. :D Do you know where they came from?
-
The $200 was quite a few years ago - I'm sure the price is more now, as it is with everything. :( If you don't get a reply, wait until you get everything bolted in then do the measurement from u-joint cap to u-joint cap. He gets the driveshafts out quickly, within three days. EDIT: I see Rymanrph has sent a PM. Hopefully he fixed you up. :clapping:

Effective? You change the wheelbase and the wheels are no longer centered in the well. Doesn't make much sense to me. Agree it's a quick solution, albeit the wrong one IMHO. :hmm:

Worlds astest Comanche On Rusty's off road
HOrnbrod replied to Worlds Fastest Comanche's topic in The Pub
Congrats Peter! You have worked hard for this recognition. Hopefully this will translate into a few "donations" for your next attempt at the Flats mate. -
That's not a bad price for regearing, especially w. the loaded carrier, but I'd verify what gear set mfg. your guy is going with. Original Dana Spicer is the best, with Yukon being #2. Personally, I'd avoid the rest, especially Superior as I've been reading lots of negatives on their products lately.

Did the same. The sheathing on my original was decomposed and it couldn't be balanced. The Woods shaft was 50% lighter, 50% stronger, and as I recall it was a little over $200 shipped.

where can i get rear bumper brackets...
HOrnbrod replied to aperseghin's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Same brackets (L&R) for both the LWB and SWB OEM step bumper. :D But like Eagle said, the linked brackets are not for an OEM bumper. -
So if the factory seal can't be installed backwards, it must be a double lipped seal internally. These are common on motorcycles. But cost more.

Good to hear mvusse. Thanks for posting. Next time you talk to him tell him all work and no play makes for neglected MJs. :D

Just had my new D44 regeared last week, and the new axle seals I used (Timkin) looked like yours Tom. Installed flat side out. It should be that way for the seal retainer plate to butt against. The old seals were the same on both sides so it did not matter which way they went in. The only reason I can see that the axle seals are made this way now is for cost savings. No leaks so far on the axles. However, I have to redo the dayem pinion seal as it's leaking. The pinion yoke, right axle (bent) and the Trac-Loc carrier are the only parts not new in the axle. Since I have to replace the pinion seal, I ordered a new U-bolt pinion yoke from Randy's as they are stronger, will have a clean bearing surface for the seal, and don't cost too much.

More Brakes - Dual Piston Caliper Mod?
HOrnbrod replied to flint54's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
While I haven't done it, I've been looking at this mod closely and share your concerns. I would definitely not shave the calipers, but would consider using just enough spacer I'd need to clear the caliper. But I don't like doing that either. I managed to find a substitute two-pot caliper with similar mounting specs to replace the old single pot caliper on my bike, but no luck yet for the MJ. :( Also, some 15" Jeep wheels have a larger inside circumference than others. For instance when I installed rear disks, the Ravine wheels had enough ID to clear the caliper, but when I swapped to the turbine wheels I had to use spacers. The Canyon wheels wouldn't work either. -
88 with a V6? :hmm:

Yes Rick, I live near Guntersville, it's the next town over. But I'm down in Birmingham now for their car/bike show for the weekend. Hesco has a lot of stuff there. The Guntersville FD and the town animal shelter takes these calls all the time and rescues stranded cats in the trees as they do here, time permitting. WTF can't a local just call it in?
-
Or replace them with OME coils. They are marked R & L and will level you out.
-
That's correct. It also applies to 91-95 HO radiators. The 91-01 XJ(91-92 MJ) radiators are the same. The coolant lines run forward on the right side of the AW4 tranny, then cross over forward of the oil pan. That crossover point is where the factory tranny coolers are installed in series with the return line.

D44 E-brake cable Question
HOrnbrod replied to HOrnbrod's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That's what I ended up doing Jeff. Tied them down on the axle in about the same spots as the tabs were on the 35. Noticed a couple of drops on the floor this morning under the diff. Looks like the pinion seal is leaking...........AAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRGGG. :headpop: -
D44 E-brake cable Question
HOrnbrod replied to HOrnbrod's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks guys. What G says makes sense as Joe's truck is a 91 and my axel is an 89. Just one more good thing in favor of the HOs. I'll get under there and take a look, especially where G said the mounting holes are on for the cable keepers on the frame. If these will work G I'll send you an email backchannel. -
D44 E-brake cable Question
HOrnbrod replied to HOrnbrod's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm using the Teraflex disk brake backing plate/caliper bracket, and the entrance hole for the stock MJ e-brake cables is a perfect fit (mimics the Ford 8.8 8). But the axle tube tabs on the old D35 that secured the cables from rubbing on the shocks are not there on my D44. I can fab something up, but was just curious if the D44 had these tabs or not. The backing plates from the D44 were perfect, not using them, and I have them listed on Fleabay. And Jim, went with the 4.09 ratio (45/11 Yukon R&P). -
D44 E-brake cable Question
HOrnbrod replied to HOrnbrod's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I feel like throwing up the way this is going. :D That would be great if you can. Thanks. -
Finishing up the D44 install and have an e-brake cable question. On the D35, there were a couple of metal tabs on the top axle tube that secured the e-brake cables before they hooked up to the wheels. The D44 has none. Do I just have an oddball or D44 axles did not have this feature? This has not been an easy swap. Besides the bent axle, I had to get a new "thick gear" R&P because I thought the the Trac-Loc carrier I had was for ratios 3.92 and up. It wasn't. The Teraflex disk brake caliper brackets I was planning on swapping over wouldn't work either because the axle flange size was different and they wouldn't bolt up. This is costing a lot more than I expected. :fs1: What else is new?

Same here. Just had that done this week.
