  1. You also have the option on the D44 if it's 3.55 or below to use 4.10 and up "thick" gears and retain the lower numerical carrier.
  2. Check the headlamp switch connector. It common for them to burn up internally, especially since you found the original headlamp switch bad. The replacement is AIRTEX Part # 1P1190. http://www.rockauto.com/dbphp/x,catalog,903,partnum,1P1190,d,AIRTEX_-_WELLS_1P1190.html
  3. Probably your truck didn't want to go to the Walmart parking lot. Seriously, make sure your battery mains cables are clean and tight, clean up your grounds as per Cruiser's posts, and how long has it been since you changed the fuel filter?
  4. You guys are right of course - I meant R134a. Typing too late at night I guess................
  5. The TCU fuse for 1991 and up is located under the hood in the Power Distribution Center (PDC), right side of the engine. Fuse F5, 10A. Pull that fuse and shift the AW4 manually. If it shifts normally, most likely you have a bad TCU.
  6. ^^ What Pete said. Explorer rear axle gear ratios depend on the tranny and engine combo as it does with all vehicles. You will have to search for that, but the 8.8 / 4.10 axles are not too hard to find. I only used the Explorer rear disks on an MJ D44 so I would not have to deal with the spring perches. The Ford 8.8 compares very favorably with the D44.
  7. What would some of those be? gonna be going to the JY soon and thought I might look. Ford Explorer 96 and up work well. Pretty much bolt in if the axle flange matches up (think it will on your application), and purchasing or fabbing a pair of axle seal preload spacers. http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=967146
  8. http://www.cseoffroad.com/s52000532.html http://www.oconeeoffroad.com/servlet/the-36338/omix-dsh-ada-CLEVIS-ASSY-CAST/Detail http://www.amazon.com/Clevis-Assy-Cast-S-52000532/dp/B00B7R5CCG
  9. Should work fine then if the '86 3/4 cluster has temp and oil pressure gauges. What about the engines for the correct tach sync?I haven't done that one...
  10. Getting back to the original post, the A/C cycling frequency in all modes, including defrost, is controlled by several variables. These include the ambient temp, relative humidity, proper HVAC system operation, and the correct amount of freon charge. The latter is the most common cause of excess compressor cycling. You mentioned that in the defrost mode that the recycling occurred over "several minutes". This sounds normal. Then you mentioned it happened again in the afternoon in A/C mode. This may or may not be normal, depending on the variables mentioned above. If you are concerned and want to know if your compressor cycling is normal or not, go to a reputable A/C shop and have the Hi and LO sides gauge pressures checked to verify you have the proper freon charge for your system. Are you still using R12 refrigerant or have you converted to R142? I'm still R12 because it works better. Whenever the compressor recycling gets excessive during the A/C and/or defrost modes in my opinion, or the A/C is not cooling as I know it always has, I throw in another can of R12 and all is well. I have to do this about every third year or so.
  11. I have not, but I've done several Renix - HO cluster/gauge swaps and vice-versa. Are you swapping a full set of six gauges from an 88 cluster into a full six gauge 85 cluster? If so, yes it will be fine as the cluster housings and gauge / indicator light circuit foils are the same. Assume the speedo cable should be the same too.
  12. Will any of these oversize filters work on a 2.5, or is there another list? The 91-92 2.5L filter threads are the same as on the 4.0L, but whether or not there is enough physical room for a larger filter I don't know.
  13. Hearing that makes me feel damn good for posting this up Charlie. Enjoy.............
  14. I'm diggin' the chrome already. Hope that's not acid rain spots on the hood............
  15. That's only for Renix oil filters - the thread on the HOs is SAE, not metric. Here's the list for the HO oversized filters: Oversize Oil Filters for HO 4.0L Engines (3/4"x16 thread) 5.178" HIGH, 3.660" DIAMETER AC-Delco PF2, $6.28 Motorcraft FL-1A, $6.49 Purolator L30001, $5.76 Napa 1515, $6.69 Wix 51515, $6.69 Mopar L-72 L-326, L-526, L-55, L-1007, L-138 Baldwin B118, $9.26 Hastings LF115, $8.73 Mobil 1 M1-301, $8.00 Amsoil EaO15, $18.75 Donaldson P550008, $4.21 6.93" HIGH, 3.660" DIAMETER AC-Delco PF42 Motorcraft FL299 Purolator L40017 Napa 1773 Wix 51773 Mopar L-526
  16. I don't know about a 4Runner, but the oil change on the new JK with the 3.6 Pentastar is super easy. The filter element is changed from the top - no more crawling under, loosening the hard-to-get-to filter cannister with a chain wrench and slopping oil all over the floor when you unscrew it. I love it.
  17. I did say it's not cheap. But the source and price you linked to is above ridiculous. Like over 100%.
  18. I always liked the wild grilles AMC came up with for their J10s and FSJs in their heyday. Like nobody else.
  19. Seat pan + molded foam. One piece. Look at RockMJ's pics above.
  20. I'm fairly certain these are the same as the CR Lawrence units, available from many places. http://www.amazon.com/C-R-LAURENCE-Duo-Vent-1986-1992-Comanche/dp/B004ARJXUM http://www.glasswarepro.com/18218-catitem-Duo-Vent-Four-Panel-Sliders-for-1986-1992-Jeep-Comanche.aspx
  21. Also the 86-92 MJs had the same part number for the parking brake assembly throughout the years, 52000803. Usually when a subpart modification or design change is made to an assembly, the part number changes to indicate the mod or change.
