Daughter #2 (the one in the USAF) got married here yesterday to a good guy, former USAF officer now an engineer with GE. They had a big outdoor wedding HERE and paid for everything themselves; I just paid for the rental of the place for the afternoon. For a wedding present we gave them the wife's 2012 JKU pictured above, and they are happy. They are off to Italy tomorrow for their honeymoon, and when they get back we'll transfer it over to them. Of course the wife will need another vehicle, and she wanted another JKU. Why not, this one's been great and has had zero problems. I ordered one exactly like the below, a 2015 Sahara with a lot more "stuff" that the old Sport and it'll be here in a couple of weeks. The wife selected it for the color, called TANK. Kind of different, I kind of like it too. Hope it's as reliable as the old one, but it should be even better as they have corrected the early problems they had with the 3.6L Pentastar engine. As soon as it arrives, it'll get some LED Headlamps and OME shocks immediately, although this one has a beefier suspension the the old one, so I'll have to test it our first. WTF, it's only money... :ack: :(

8.25 E - brake issue (disc swap)

Yes, Lokar. Crazy expensive yes. Why? I don't know. It's called a Ford brake clevis too, and you can get them cheaper by looking for them under that name.- 16 replies

52003188 for 1987/89; 52006380 for 1990/92. I don't know what the difference is (if any) between the two. :dunno:- 16 replies

8.25 E - brake issue (disc swap)

The L and R rear e-brake cables are the same p/n and length for both the LWB and SWB MJ models. The bed length difference is made up for with the front e-brake from the foot pedal to the turnbuckle adjuster. When I installed my Explorer rear disk brakes I used the MJ stock rear cables - they were plenty long enough even with a ~3" lift. Then used the Ford e-brake clevis brackets to hook them up to the e-brake lever.- 16 replies

You must not want it that badly then. What's the location of this MJ? In the rust belt? And no, I don't want it. But the price is very reasonable and worth a quick look-see.

According to the trusty parts manual, the same manual box as yours (p/n 52000089) was used on 81-93 XJs, MJs, and Wranglers, and up to the 94-95 YJs. Your best bet for a used manual box would be from a newer Wrangler. New and rebuilt units are listed everywhere including Ebay, so give it a good search using the part number.

From the parts manual: 33002970, 91-92 MJ/XJ, .80" 33002971, 91-92 MJ/XJ, 1.30" 33002972, 91-92 MJ/XJ, 2.48"

P/n 4720363 is the correct oil filter adapter o-ring kit for the for the 91-92 XJ/MJ up to 7-19-92. I got mine at Hesco, but they are available in many places, like Ebay.

Agree with all the above except the speedo gear. At present, your MJ should have a 36T gear installed that came with the the original ~27" tires. With 31" tires and 3.55 gears, you will need a 33T gear for the speedo to indicate correctly. Each tooth represents roughly a 3%-4% difference in indicated speed, so keeping the original speedo gear will cause your speedo to be off by at least 9%. That was too much for me when I went to 31's so I changed the gear to the correct 33T gear.

As far as I've read, the Durango steering boxes are even slower than the stock MJ gear. Great off-road box though. I went with the ZJ box and an 04 Wrangler pump. To me it's a perfect (and cheap) setup for the road. Feels better than my new JK.

Unless you know exactly what ratio is installed, stay away from the rebuilt boxes as most of them use the slower 14:1 ratio that you have now. To be sure you get the 12.7:1 ratio use a genuine ZJ yard box with low mileage. I picked one up from a 96 ZJ with 65K on it and it worked fine with no leaks that a can on Lucas stop leak couldn't fix. Hasn't leaked for years and is still tight.

Zimbabwe Balancing Rocks. They can balance rocks, but not the economy.
-
Yep, still there, still fine. You will like it. Any stock 93-98 ZJ box will work.

It's a trim / decal package, nothing else.

That's an Olympic Edition, so it's an 88.

stumped, OBD-II MJ issuses
HOrnbrod replied to shelbyluvv's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Man, that's a strange one. Security system malfunction? -
Not likely. I know the wire colors from an HO and Renix are nowhere near the same. The same is probably for different Renix years too.
-
Yep. It must have been a bear to design a fuse block and terminals that will work with all the differently configured XJs and MJs. The easy way would have been using a fuse block fully loaded that could be used on anything. But that costs $$..............
-
This. Certain fuses will be blanked out if the equipment is not present on the vehicle by using or not using different terminals on the block. So the best bet is to find a block from a highly optioned out vehicle and use just the fuses you need.
-
The 84-93 fuse blocks are all the same. The terminal configurations are varied though depending on vehicle equipment.

Yes, that is correct. Since your 91 electrical speedometer isn't working, I'd sure to pull it out and look for obvious stuff like a stripped speedo gear, speedo gear not clocked at the correct orientation, a rounded out square hole where the gear shaft plugs into, and/or obvious electrical connectivity problems on the cable to the ECU. The part number for the 2-pin VSS you need is 5252438. Rock Auto sells them as well as many others. Here's a how-to for the later 3-pin VSS, but the principle is the same: http://gojeep.willyshotrod.com/HowtoSpeedoGears.htm
