Aftermarket tach not working
HOrnbrod replied to Master7122's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Unfortunately the original Sun Super tachs that we loved with the big chrome shells from the 60's-70's have not been manufactured for many years. A good used one on Ebay can go for several hundred dollars and usually more. Sun changed their name to Sun Pro in the 80's and though they still make a line of "retro" tachs that resemble the vintage Super models and others, they are all made in China and are garbage. Probably the best tachs you can get now reasonably w/o floating a loan are Autometers. -
Jeep XJ MJ OEM AM FM CD Player Mopar 82300393
HOrnbrod replied to HOrnbrod's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yes, they are expensive. I called several companies to repair my Mopar 82300393 first, and no one would touch it as it's such a rare unit. They didn't even list it. This was the only outfit that had wiring diagrams and parts available to fix the damn thing. So there wasn't much choice if I wanted it fixed. So I bent over. :ack: -
The Falcons have only been in one Super Bowl before in 1998. They got blown out by the Broncos 34–19. I'd like to see them pull out a win this time.

Aftermarket tach not working
HOrnbrod replied to Master7122's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I went to the manufacturer's site and downloaded the manual HERE. It says "An inductive pickup IS NOT provided with all tachometer kits. In such cases, the tachometer IS NOT compatible with the inductive pickup....." blah blah. Thought it might have one. :dunno: -
I figured that game would be tight. Have never seen so many dropped balls............

Welcome. It does a decent job keeping the alt and the engine dry and semi-mung free.

Aftermarket tach not working
HOrnbrod replied to Master7122's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You don't "have to" splice into the tach feed wire according to the install manual for the tach he says he purchased. It comes with an inductive pickup. That's why I asked. Check it out...... -
I guess he means the engine splash shield. The 97 and up XJ OEM units work great for our trucks and are plug and play. All the push pin fastener holes line up.

Well, two lopsided games today for the NFC and AFC championships. Atlanta destroyed Green Bay 44-21 in the NFC and New England beat up Pittsburg 36-17 in the AFC. Without a miraculous comeback, both games were basically over at halftime. Now that the participants are in place for the Super Bowl, who do you love? The Pats seem like they are in it at least every other year or so, and I can't remember the last time the Falcons made it to The Bowl. I like both teams, but this year I'm going with the Falcons, who I'm sure will be the betting underdogs. Matt Ryan was the best QB in football this year, should receive the NFL MVP, has the best receivers (Julio comes to mind), and has had a career year. Their defense, especially the secondary, is equal or better IMO than New England, and I think they can keep Brady's passing game under control just enough to score enough points and pull out a win. But I've been wrong before. The Tide will Roll again next year.............

Did this tach come with an inductive pickup? -
How hard? On a scale from 1-10 with 10 being hard, maybe a 2. You just need the correct Metra adapter pigtails for the Jeep harness and the Mitsu radio, then wire up an interface harness between the two. Never hack into the OEM wiring harness when installing a non-OEM radio.

Aftermarket tach not working
HOrnbrod replied to Master7122's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Sounds like any aftermarket tach, including Autometer. Try hooking the green tach wire to terminal C on the ignition module like the factory tach is wired. http://comancheclub.com/topic/2511-wiring/ -

What - aftermarket - tach? -
Yep, that's one of the no-no's that's posted on several forums, including the strokers forum. I just heard today in fact that it's quite easy to mod these engines to drop in our MJs. This is good to know info for those looking for yet another source for low mileage 4.0 engine donors. Looking forward to your mod pics.

Agree. Fram got a deservedly bad rap for a poor design once, and even though they have since corrected it, they still get bad-mouthed and always will especially in the Jeep community. Yet depending on who's list you look at, they are nearly always rated in the the top 5 of the best sellers list. But I still would never install one.............

A little rear shackle info

Automan? Probably just rebadged Dorman junk. Maybe even a step below, if that's even possible. -
I do, and have been all over it looking for numbers. There's nothing..........

Did my caliper lock up?

Is this on your 2WD? If so, read this: http://comancheclub.com/topic/15622-wheel-rotates-hard-after-changing-front-brake-pads/?hl=inboard Difference between inboard and outboard pads: -

That's what I used: -
Damn - I thought I read you had a brake warning light. :headslap Yeah, probably blew a master cylinder seal. Might be a good time to do the 95/96 XJ master cylinder / brake booster upgrade if you haven't already.
-
The shuttle for the switch on your brake proportioning valve is probably stuck from your slamming on the brakes and needs to be reset. Disconnect the wire from the switch on the prop valve and see if the light goes out. If it does, there's the problem. Not driving, you have to press HARD on the brake pedal until you hear a "pop". One quick stomp should reset it. Nice to know info: Possible brake warning light causes: 1. parking brakes are applied 2. very low pedal 3. low fluid level 4. excessively worn brake lining 5. there's a pressure differential between the front/rear hydraulic systems

I still have mine too - works great. And the same "I still have the Mitsu radio/cd if anyone wants it." Comes with mounting bracket and adapter harness too. Maybe I'll list it in the classifieds.........
