Reminds me of a time I parked at a garage up to a hill. A tow truck pulled behind me just as I was about to leave and wouldn't move. So I put it in first and climb the hill in front of me, about a 45 degree angle through rocks and grass, 5 or so feet above into a gas station. It was awesome.

I was probably in my 20s at one point

Well, a bit overdue, but changed the spark plugs and distributor today. Feels a bit more torquey. Here's the connector I mentioned above:

That's awesome. I'd love to get a wagoneer someday. There's a cherokee around every corner, this thing just stands out. Great find.

New Gauge Swap And Issues
AeroNautical replied to SBpunk's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
This might seem simple, but I'll try to help you troubleshoot it. Did you replace the plugs on the back of the cluster the way you took them off? There is a right side up. Did you replace the coolant temp and the oil pressure sensor? Did the guy who sold it to you ensure all the gauges worked? The link just says the bidding for this item has ended. I know these are simple, but sometimes it is just that, something simple. -
Chuck's '86 Daily Driver

I know I've said it, but damn is that clean. You know what would look great? 30 inch tires with a small lift so they don't rub. That'd be icing on the cake. However, now that I look a bit closer, those tires probably aren't too far off from 30s are they? My sisters got a neon, it's quick, and it feels like your dragging your butt on the ground it's so low. And a bug you say? Driven one, as well as my brothers 70 Karmann Ghia. Great cars, really pushing the limit at 60mph. I've also driven a 2.5l in a wrangler. It's a slug. It's incredible what 2 more pistons in the 4.0 can do. -
Instrument Cluster
AeroNautical replied to Comanche_Fanatic's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yeah, from the sounds of it you have the idiot lights. Sorry I wasn't more clear. Do you want the full cluster, or just those specific gauges? I can get you either or, but shipping will be much cheaper with just the gauges. Let me know. -
Makes me feel alot better about it, I would have expected a cover or something on it. Thanks. I don't have a picture of it, but I'll explain it as best as I can. There is a capped electrical connector with 4 wires leading up to it on the drivers side of the engine bay near the air filter. If that's not enough to go on I'll snap a picture tomorrow. Any idea what it is?

Question: What the hell is this? Going through my engine, I spot this loose connection, with no idea what it connects to. It's a short wire, so it couldn't have gotten far. It's just in front of the air intake manifold. Any idea?
-
That's exactly the shape mine was in, except I found it on drivers side. Why bother putting in the vehicle at all if they are just gonna destroy it, haha

Quick question: Do you live near any JYs? If your not sure, google let me know of 3 near where I live. Most of what you listed there is pretty easy to grab, so next time I go I can pick em up for you. But it's always quicker and cheaper to go to a JY and look for em yourself, I've learned. Let me know.

Instrument Cluster
AeroNautical replied to Comanche_Fanatic's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I think I can help you out, but up to what year can the fuel and coolant gauges be? Are they the idiot lights, or full cluster? If it's the idiot lights, I've got 2 or 3 clusters just waiting to be installed by someone other than me, or I could just pull the gauges you need out of one. -
Good lookin dog, awesome looking comanche.

Pat is dead on....don't waste your time and money. Look for an 89' and up for your AX-15 donor. That isn't an AX15. 89 and up, got it. It's just a shame that every 89 and up I find is an automatic. The switches fit the stock holes. You push it in until you hear a click and your good to go. They're a walmart special, 6 bucks a piece. Yes, the other one is for the fogs, I just wired them through the engine bay into the cab and to the back of the switch. The power is drawn through a fused wire to the battery. The fan switch is a bit more complicated with wiring, as it's relayed.

That's some nice work. Welding is a trade that would benefit every kind of mechanic. Something I intend to learn. You got a point, I think it might benefit the OP to keep some glads in the back, haha.

Where To Mount A Cb In A Mj
AeroNautical replied to TheDirtyJeep401's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I feel like I posted in this, but apparently not, haha. mnkyboy: That center console, where can I get one. If that folds up into a seat, it's brilliant. -
Installed my fan. I decided to make it manual turn on with a switch in the cab:
-
You mean this? I looked at it close, it's just a connection point for the bracket. No hole or anything that might leak.
-
Damn it, I had high expectations for that trans. I have a ba10 in my truck now, but I had no idea they used those transmissions for 4WD. That's why I thought it was an AX-15. That really is a spirit killer. Thanks for the write ups skidoo, looks like it should be an easy install.

Alright, I'll recruit my brother and we'll go grab it. What about the metallic ring on the side of the tranny in this picture: It almost looks like the "Do Not Remove" bolt is gone. If it is, what does that mean? The aux fan plug is already on the engine harness? Wow that made this easy, I'll splice it tomorrow.

Stock Hieght , Will 30" Tires Clear ?
AeroNautical replied to vaquaro's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Here's a good start: http://www.transmissioncenter.net/speedometer_calibration_______va.htm?gclid=CMHQv8KD27YCFeo7OgodsQsAIQ It lists axle ratios and tire sizes, gets pretty in depth. I have 30 inch tires as well, but I just compensate on the speedometer. when it reads 45, it's really 51. When it's 55, it's really 62. 35 is about 38, the lower the speed, the closer to accuracy the speedometer is.
