I've seen alot of posts in the classifieds and so on asking for speedo cables. I hear they are hard to find intact, and to grab one, even if you don't need it, for replacement later on down the road. So, I found this: http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=1261625&cc=1181584 Rock Auto sells them for 20 bucks. Searched under 88 Jeep Comanche. Do people not know about this or is it mislabeled? I guess 20 bucks is a bit much, but it sure as hell beats scavenging through JYs to find one in OK shape.

Installed this guy I scored at a JY for 30 bucks:

I may already have a buyer for the camo one, but the white one I'll let go for $60. I'll of course clean it up. I can't ship it though, pick up only. I'd be more than happy to meet you half way within reason.

Hey I'm A New Member, Just Got My Comanche, Please Hit Me Up
AeroNautical replied to jeepmarine312's topic in The Pub
I don't know, I remember awhile back I saw a pink comanche, someone called it a "Pepto Bismol" truck. Look forward to reading your write ups my man -
I can help you with the tailgate. I've got 2, both in decent shape, one with a slight bow in the middle. I'm gonna clean this one up a bit, its straight, opens and closes just fine. This is the slightly bowed one, but its rust free and operates just fine. It just so happens I'm taking a trip to Fort Jackson in Columbia, which is almost exactly the half way point from me to you. Let me know if you want em.

What Kind Of Cb Radio Antenna Do You Guys Prefer?
AeroNautical replied to Josh_Fish95's topic in The Pub
I use a Cobra 29 LTD US Army radio and a 102" whip with a spring mount. No complaints, other than the antenna is parallel to the road on the highway, haha. -
That's awesome, I was laughing at some of those stunts. For those of you with macs, hop on the mac app store and search alpine crawler. A long bed 2wd comanche climbing a mountain, it's entertaining.

From Idiot Lights To Gauges

I'll keep an eye out, thanks. The last few I've seen were snapped. Makes sense, I'll try to straighten it out a bit. Thanks. Also, since I have no use for that newer cluster, it's for sale here: http://comancheclub.com/topic/38193-gauge-cluster/ -

I prematurely posted, but I fixed it. Some of the shaft was exposed behind the cluster, I had to pull the sheath up flush with the back of the speedometer, and the shaft poked it's head out the tranny end. It works now, but for some reason at lower speeds the needle shakes like hell. But, as long as it's accurate, I'm fine with that. I guess the next step is to find an older instrument panel. I'll keep you guys updated if I need more help, and none of you know how much I appreciate the help. -

Quick update, found the speedo cable, but found out why it stopped working. On the trans end, it receded into the sheath. I tried pushing it from the back of the cluster, but it doesn't come out. I can see it and it spins, so I know it didnt snap. How do I get it out -

Good to know, and what better way to learn than with trial and error. The pull apart I took the cluster from labeled the Cherokee a 90, but I think they labeled it wrong. Next time I go I'll swap it out with an older one, hopefully they won't charge again. I ran into another problem though. One that relyt120 warned me about. I reinstalled my old cluster, but the speedometer stopped working. Where on the transmission is the other end of that speedo cable? I just hope I didn't snap it. -

Well, here's a problem: Unless >90 clusters were different on cherokees, i think they labeled the year wrong. Is there a way around this or should I just look for another cluster with the correct hook up points? The cluster on top is the new one. -

Awesome, I lucked out there, it's a 90 cluster. You know, I have no idea why I thought it was an oil temp gauge. Brain stopped working there for a second. The back of the cylinder head you say? I bet that's a fun one to get to. And for the tach, is it plug and play? -

Alright, let me get this straight. The only senders I need are: Coolant Temp, oil pressure and tach senders Correct me if I'm wrong, but because the idiot cluster does already read oil temp, speed, fuel and battery current, they should work right off the bat, right? I'm also curious if I can set the odometer to my actual mileage, or if that's more work than its worth. -

I've got a 4.0 and it came from a 4.0 90 cherokee, so from what your telling me, I should be good to go. Thanks. This is exactly what I needed, thanks. However, senders. Where do I get em? -
I'm not entirely sure if this is the right forum to ask for write ups, but I'm looking for a step by step guide for upgrading my idiot lights to gauges. I know I'm going to need new senders for things like oil temp and tachometer, but other than that I'm in the dark. Any help is appreciated. Sorry if this is the wrong section.

Needless to say, it's only in the garage for engine work. Everything else is out in the drive way, haha.
-
Very nice, be sure to keep a log of your progress in the projects section. I also want to grab an ax-15 from a pull apart or some unsuspecting wrangler owner and convert my 88. You have a ba-10 in it?
-
That's a great diagram, thanks. I ended up going to a pull apart and getting all the stripping I needed. Now the process has begun, it's only natural To come across some problems. I removed the inner door cover, and in doing so broke the door rod clips. I bought a variety pack, but none of them fit. My door doesn't lock or open from the inside anymore, and I need to fix that fast. Where can I get clips to fit and 88 Comanche door?
-
Well, now I've got another question. I found a complete weather stripping kit for both doors and windows on JCWhitney for about 46 bucks. Thats the best I've seen a full kit, but I'd like you all to let me know if this'll work: http://www.jcwhitney.com/metro-moulded-door-oe-replacement-weatherstrip-seal/p3058848.jcwx?filterid=c3813d1169y1988g2j4 If not, I'll definitely look at some cherokee and grand cherokee doors at a pull-a-part. As always, the help is appreciated.

I'm in need of some weather stripping for my doors and windows. I'm gettin tired of driving on the highway and having to wear ear protection with a draft in my cab. I've checked Jcwhitney and quadratec, both with less than desirable prices. I'm wondering if you guys can help me out a bit with websites (or stores) that can get me the right size stripping for a decent price. I appreciate it.

How the hell is this a Cherokee? Jeep has lost it's roots. This is perhaps worse than what Volkswagen did to the bug when they brought it back the first time.
-
That's funny, mine was dark blue originally. Where I live, you certainly don't stand out with camo, haha. I almost always have issues finding it in a parking lot. Unless it's by itself in a well lit area, your eyes will just skip over it, the camo does a great job of removing the silhouette. The easiest way to find it is to look for the 102" whip antenna. Something to bear in mind if you do go through with the paint job.
-
I appreciate that. The way I figure, if you've got a nice coat of paint already, don't bother, but if it's startin to fade or chip, strip it down and go crazy with black brown and green, haha. Here's a few more, thought it'd be appropriate to have a few off road:

I've never had more fun with a land vehicle than I've had with this truck.
