Digging through a JY, I come across an AX-15 with transfer case attached on an 88 Cherokee. Is it even worth my time to pull it, pay a couple hundred for both and take a chance on how well it will perform? These are the best pictures I could get of it. It's slanted because the engine mounts on the 4.0 appear to have broken. Also picked up a secondary electric fan while I was there, but can't find a write up on how to install. And by install, I mean wire the thing up to a sensor or switch correctly.

Hard Shifting Peugeot 5 Speed
AeroNautical replied to Road Hammer's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've actually had similar issues with my Peugeot, most notable, at higher RPMs, if it was in third gear you could NOT pull it out until I either double clutched or slowed down enough for the transmission to let it go. My solution? Buy some higher end 10w30 gear oil with an additive like "anti chattering". That was half a year ago and I have never had another issue with it. Of course, my ultimate solution is an AX-15 upgrade. Get a transfer case and a new front axle and your good as gold. -

I'm blown away by how clean your truck is. Those inline 4s really did change over the years, sisters got a 97 wrangler with one and looks nothing like that. It's a renix 2.5, right? -
That thought crossed my mind, but a 6'5" guy sits in that seat with leg room to spare believe it or not. My dog spends more time in that seat than anyone else anyway, haha
-
Just thought you'd like to know I'm still laughing at that..

He'll be a handful. How about Schäfer, pronounced "shay fer" for those non german speakers. It means shepherd, but sounds awesome.

I have a blue window crank, but the bull bar might take awhile. No guarantees that if I do find one, I won't just keep it for myself, haha. Let me know if you want it:

What's with the red coil spring too? Seems as though your truck has more springs than a mattress! Tell me about it. The guy I bought it from took good care of the truck, but really half assed the lift. It's all temporary, though. If you look at the second picture down on the first post, you can see the tailgate bows out just slightly. I replaced it with a straight one. The bowed one works just fine, but it was a cheap enough "upgrade".

Thanks I did, got the white one off an 89 pioneer. Took half a day to paint the damn thing, camo isn't as easy as it looks...

That's an incredibly clean ride, very nice. Mind showin the I4? I'd like to make a couple comparisons to my sisters wrangler. -
Yet Another Cup Holder Idea.
AeroNautical replied to armyofchuckness's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
Brilliant, if I had a bench I'd take your idea. If you do bolt it into your floor, better make sure you don't want to move your seat forward again, haha -
You just need the ball hitch? What size? Also, if you live near a harbor freight, they have a sale on 3 ball hitches for 30 bucks. You can't beat that.

If you don't mind taking the panel off your drivers side door, that's where I found mine. Not sure if that's common to be there or not.
-
Wait a minute. I can use motor oil for my tranny? Then why do they sell gear oil separately? I spent alot more money on gear oil than I would have on motor oil, haha.
-
Your guess is as good as mine. Let's just say, not every mod on it was installed by me, haha. All temporary anyway.
-
Luckily I just got a bunch from you. That makes sense, just thought I'd throw that idea out there.

How many times have you driven by an MJ and thought "Wonder if they're a CC member"? Maybe a section in the wheeling trips and meet n greet called "Drive-Bys" could be a place to discuss this. I've seen a few topics started in the pub about other MJs they've seen, so I think it'd be used somewhat often. For example: "I saw a short bed silver pioneer on 521 near the taco bell in fort mill, sc a few days ago. Who was it?" Your thoughts?

Check newer posts for additions, pictures, and plenty of questions: I got my 88 back in september of 2012. I've done quite a bit to it since then, but unfortunately didn't document much of it with pictures. However, I intend to change that for future mods. I forsee in the next year or two ol' Camy (pending name) will be a full out off road machine. And that is impossible without the help of you guys and girls, and many of you have helped me out ALOT up to this point already. I do appreciate it. The oldest picture I could find of her: My old tailgate: My new tailgate. Stopped at lowes to get some spray paint... the shed needed a new coat.. My shed burned down so I decided to use the paint on the tailgate: Looks nothing like this anymore: Late XJ center console and full gauges: Picked this up at a JY for 30 bucks. Can't beat that: I have a huge list for whats to come, and will expand over time. 4WD AX-15 conversion secondary electric fan thinkin a 4" lift SOA 31"-33" tires Disc brakes all around Gauge instrument cluster already in the works better cool air flow into the air intake manifold Recommendations are always welcome! What's been done from that list above: secondary electric fan Gauge instrument cluster 4WD AX-15 conversion Rear Disc brakes SOA Dual Diaphragm Brake Booster 4.5/5" lift 33x10.5 BFG A/T She's a work in progress, and has a long way to go. Thanks for viewing.

Here's something that might help you out: http://www.alpinefurniturestore.com/JeepDocumentation/MJs/mj1988electrical_troubleshooting_manual.pdf It's for an 88, but electrical couldn't have changed that much. I have had a long history of electrical problems with my MJ, however I've managed to fix everyone of them, one being a flickering radio. Have you installed anything new recently, like a cb radio or fog lights? This made me laugh more than it should have.

Stock Hieght , Will 30" Tires Clear ?
AeroNautical replied to vaquaro's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yep, that's it. My brothers got a modded XJ, I don't have any pictures of it unfortunately. Your comanche in that book is the highlight. You flip through the pages of XJs and WHAM. What the hell... is that an XJ with a bed? I want me one of them! haha. I've had several people come up to me and ask what the MJ was, and if I modded an XJ with a pickup bed. -

I remember reading in a book somewhere about your build. I can't believe that's what it once looked like. I didn't even know what the hell a Comanche was outside of Piper before my brother showed me that. My brother and your build gave me inspiration and look where I am now: a 25 year old truck in my driveway and no money, haha. Best investment of my life. -
From Idiot Lights To Gauges
AeroNautical replied to AeroNautical's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks for that, just ordered it off of rock auto. The guy showed it to me before I bought it, I knew it didn't look right. -

Let's go ahead and make sure these are right before I dirty em up: From the looks of it, the temp sensor seems wrong. Think it's time for NAPA to update their computers. -
haha, enjoy. You want a quick laugh, go onto the mac app store and download the free version of "Alpine Crawler". It's a 2wd longbed mj climbing a mountain. very entertaining.

I see, didn't think about that. I come across alot of them at pull a parts, I suppose I should start taking them.
