  1. With a lift and larger tires the effect is minimal. With a lowered or stock truck though, you can see gains in MPG by keeping it. I am actually going to add another from a GMC under mine. It deflects air from going under the truck and helps a bit with the drag there. Dr. Dyno did a few experiments a while ago and came up with I think about 4mpg over stock by adding a longer one.
  2. incidentally it is "which" not witch. Unless you are looking for a haunted radiator
  3. I know Rick Flair. I wrestled with his son. Ran into him at a few USA wrestling tourneys and such.
  4. why would you pay $100k for a $10k car?
  5. Advance Auto. 3 core CSF all metal radiator. Ask for the heatbuster series. I use one to cool my stroker. It works great. It did go in a 1991 Cherokee though, so it was already an open system. I think it was $200 retail when I got mine. But I worked there at the time so I got it a shade cheaper.
  6. I have tried a few different plugs and a few different caps and wires so: Plugs: basically any copper plug is great, set the gap and be done. I have experienced little to no gain in platinum plugs in a 4.0. Copper burns HOTTER, platinum burns LONGER ie a longer plug life. Platinum was largely designed as an answer to vehicles that are hard to service, like transmounts and tightly placed v6s and v8s. Since the 4.0 is so easy to change I stick with copper. I have also seen more than one jeep have mysterious ignition and idle problems that came up just after switching to bosh +2 and +4 plugs. The problems were fixed by switching back to a normal plug. If it means anything to you, most of the guys I know running drag/street cars do not run gimmicky 2 and 4 prong plugs, or plugs with diamonds, or capasitors, or splits. They run NGK or Delco plugs, and most of the guys running nitrous and forced induction are running NGK TR555s. Brands: Champion - any copper, I like the truck plugs better, they have a huge electrode. NGK - some dislike them, I will put them in anything, they are my personal choice. I use V-power copper plugs in my stroker. They are easier to mess with heat ranges if you are doing mods, it is part of the part number. I used the irridium in my sport bike, The SS LS1 camaro I had I used the platinums, and I just put the same set into my wifes blazer. Delco - same, I just use a normal copper plug Autolite - I have used both the copper and platinum in jeeps with no problems. Wires: The stroker has off the shelf professional series wires from advance auto. They have a life time warranty, and I have had zero problems with Ignition. I have arced through a set before, but that was before I got them loomed up good, and I was still troubleshooting with plug heat on the stroker so the plugs were fouled out anyway. A buddy runs a set of MSD wires. He bought a set of generic v8 wires and just used the 6 closest lengths since that was cheaper than ordering a set of Jeep specific wires. Accel used to make good wires, but I have not used them recently. cap and rotor: this is one of the best places to splurge. A good cap and rotor is a nice hard thick plastic, with BRASS terminals. The cheapo ones are lighter and have other terminals in them. Sometimes the parts store will have a premium set that has better electrodes, I ordered a set from accel that has worked nicely. coil: the stock coil is just fine, there is no real need to upgrade it. If the jeep is running well and the plugs look good upon inspection, there is nothing to gain from upgrading it. I currently have an advance auto BWD brand coil on the stroker, and it works great. MSD and accel both make good high performance bolt on coils for Dodge and Jeep vehicles. Or you could make a Ford style canister coil work too if you want to hack up the harness. A friend has the MSD with no problems. These have been my experiences with this stuff. 4 jeeps with 4.0s, 1 2.5L, a 2002 SS camaro I had up to a dynoed 340rwhp, a Honda CBR, a my Wifes 2000 Blazer.
  7. Ive heard good things about a flywheel weight, but I have never personally used one. For the Ignition, I would look at getting a stock style MSD coil, a nice cap and rotor with brass terminals, and some good wires. For plugs I would Use a good champion copper plug, OR I have had great luck with NGK V-powers. Use a good filter, and when you do the exhaust get a nice muffler and a good quality CAT. I was thinking 4.0 stroker swap. But I think I may just see how far I can take the 2.5. Go with a good internal rebuild, premium rings and such, probably with an overbore. And rebuild it strong enough to take some boost or nitrous. At this point thinking a set of long tubes to build up the torque curve and a remote mount turbo pushing about 6psi. Plenty of room under the truck and bed since it is a 2.5.
  8. first time I have seen the tompkin setup. I really like it, but it is damn expensive.
  9. It would be doable that way, but the problem is the way that the back of the headliner in the cab rolls down. I may try to work on it more, but if so I will go snatch a new headliner backing from the JY and mold it to that. It is a dense foam type plastic.
  10. after looking around a lot today I do not see a very reasonable way to fit one in. It will be easier to fit them behind the seat, into the lower dash, stock location, ect than to try to get them into the headliner. Even with the soundbar.
  11. I have done it multiple times, worked great every time. I used to work at an Advance in Raleigh and in the summer people would walk strait out to the parking lot and install right there. Some have had problems though.
  12. Its bad to run any power line and the audio near each other It can give you some interference issues sometimes. I usually run them apart. Some do not see a difference, some do. I just run them separate, it is not that much harder.
  13. My daughter is attending UA under a USAF ROTC engineering scholarship. She loves the ROTC part, is a great cadet according to the Det, but is less than enthusiastic about the engineering field. The Det is urging her to sign up for pilot training after commissioning, and she likes it so she can change her major. The AF is trying to get more females in as pilots as I'm told there aren't many. You say you're a NAV and are committed for 7, so what other options are there for her besides pilot training? I've tried to find more info on the web on these programs, but haven't had much luck. I know a few people who are less than happy with the engineering field. I know some who love it. If she goes Pilot, and wants to change her major, she needs to have it approved, especially if she is on contract. If she is not on contract it should not take much to get it approved. If she is on contract and goes from a tech major to a non-tech major she will possibly lose her scholarship if she does not get approved for a new contract, but this would probably not kick her out of the program. I started out in Aerospace, when I picked up my rated slot I changed to History. No sense in staying in the hard field unless she wants to go be a test pilot or fly the Shuttle one day. Does she like video games? If so and she goes pilot she can volunteer for the Predator. Something like 20% of Pilots are going unmanned now. I am a Strike NAV, I will either end up in a F15-e or a B-1. I am part of the last class of split Navs. Everyone will be coming to Pensacola for training starting in 2010. And she would be able to go to any airframe with a NAV/CSO/whatever the airforce calls us then. She can be an ABM as well, they fly around in the back of the big radar bird and provide air control to guys like me. They carry a 6 year commitment. Those are the 3 rated programs. She can also do a whole bunch of other jobs. Only like 5% of the AF fly. She can be a Logistics officer, Security, Weather, ect. Here is a pretty good site containing Officer AFSCs. http://usmilitary.about.com/od/officerj ... ffjobs.htm regardless of what she does, it is a great opportunity. Let me know what else you have questions about. Same for her. Whatever sources she can get in contact with outside the Det are great. The real AF is slightly different than the ROTC variety.
  14. fun stuff I know a few aggies. I have the 7 year commitment because I am a NAV. Pilots catch an 8 yr. ABMs get 6, and I think most others are all 4. If it is California he is probably going Space and Missiles if I had to guess.
  15. hmm, below the plastic trim from the window, where the carpeted panel is supposed to go? I had not thought about that. Could work out well, especially if I end up making a back panel since I cannot find one. I could just incorporate it into the panel I make.
  16. yea, all that is easy. I usually run power down one side and the remote and RCAs down the other side. Once I actually road trip back up to get my cherokee from NC I will probably just swap all the wiring to the MJ.
  17. yea, I figure that the stock location would work, just wondering if the sound bar was an applicable idea or not. I have it in my cherokee right behind the front seats and I really liked it.
  18. What school? And do you know if he/she has their job yet? They should know, or if not they will know by March. I am obligated to either 7 or 8, and that is After I get my Wings, which would be up to 2 years from now.
  19. Anyone get one to fit reasonably. I picked one up from the JY for 3 bucks just in case. I think I could either redo the headliner and cut out a strip in the middle to mount it, or possibly just trim the back of the sound bar to make it fit. Wondering if anyone has some insight. I want 2 more speakers in the MJ, but I do not have the mounts (or wiring from what I can tell) to put them behind the seats. Plus when I add a sub back there a lot of sound will be getting blocked.
  20. Yea, complete threadjack. I am currently going through Aircrew water survival so I can go be a fighter jock, and was getting a little b*tching in. I tell you what though, I have seen and been through some disgusting crap, but I think that putting on some cold wet flight gloves comes close to topping that list. Not sure why, it was a combination of the feeling you get pulling apart cotton balls and the feel of cold wet mildewy leather.
  21. :rotf: Come on LT, We swim all the time in full gear (camies, boots, flaks, kevlar, rifle) with a ALICE pack. It ain't nothing but a thing! You will get better with practice! Hopefully you will never NEED the training! ya, but do you like it? I love swimming, I really like the workout of swimming with the extra drag from the suit. I just hate treading water. It's not that I cannot do it, I just don't want to do it. I passed all the evolutions so far just fine.
  22. meh, debatable. A rescue swimmer got a Coastie LT with that today in water survival. on the topic of sucking though, treading water with full flight gear (suit, boots, harness, ect) sucks, got to have that experience today.
  23. Ive been there. Not bad. Why do all the trees in Arkansas lean west??? b/c Texas SUCKS!!! j/k

  25. just giving you a hard time. We had flooding like this back home a few years ago, foothills of NC. When the River makes it to the top of its 9' banks it is getting to be a bad day, when it makes it the next 7 ft to the bridge, things started getting interesting. Luckily we were in your situation and live a solid 150' above the lowest point around (pond in the middle of a small valley). Dad always laughed pretty hard when the door to door insurance salesmen would come around trying to get him to buy flood insurance. When you insured/bought your house did they happen to tell you what flood plain your area was in? 20yr, 50yr, 100yr? I asked cause someone in my neighborhood found out that the above mentioned rains brought the level up to the 100yr plain and his NEW house...
