Fixed vs. adjustable UCA/LCA
89Tonto replied to 89Tonto's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Is it possible to go with adjustable LCA and fixed UCA for phase 1 build and switch out to adjustable UPA at a later time or visa versa? :???: -
Is there any "Rule of Thumb" when it comes to using fixed vs. adjustable UCA/LCA on a small lift. (4" or less). Looking at stockpiling parts for the next MJ project. Either a buy a complete kit or buy good used parts here and there and try to save some $$$. I figured I can't go wrong buying adjustable control arms and a trac bar. :dunno: Your thoughts? Thanks!!!

Price has dropped from the last time I saw them. Oh well, just trying to help someone save a dollar or two. Heck, Amazon has them about a $1.00 cheaper.

I saw this on Facebook and thought I would share with everyone. Now on-line at http://www.jeepjamboreeusa.com - Currie E-Z Tire Deflators only $29.95. Who needs a new toy in the trailbox? It’s really easy to use. https://www.jeepjamboreeusa.com/jj-prod ... ?id=600-14

The 5th Annual Jeep Rally for Life - "Jeepin' for a Cure!" Spread the word!! Last year there were 145 Jeeps. How about we break that record in 2011. This is a great event at bringing the fight against cancer directly into the Jeeping community. Remember One person, One Jeep can make a difference!

Looking at swapping in the newer AW-4??? into my future build project. BTW- what are the newer automatics called- AW-4. :???: What wiring, linkage, etc. do I need? Is there any existing tranny wiring in the 89 4.0L that is compatable? When I decide to get a tranny, what do I need to make sure I get everyting? Might as well start stockpiling parts now. If there already is a link on CC somewhere, please let me know. Thanks

Hey guys, I'm in the same boat with my 89 MJ Renix. I noticed the other day I had a gas leak under the truck towards the driveshaft area. After putting it up on a lift Friday, it appears 1-2 tubes coming out of the sending unit is leaking/wet. CRAP!!!! I have already replaced the electric fuel pump and tank once since owning it. Option 1- Like Eagle suggested, wire brush and epoxy. Any recommendations on the better epoxy? Only want to do this once. Option2- Find a good used fuel sending unit on here. Those sending units are hard to find. Trying to get something worked out with one of the guys on here. Thanks guys! Scott

Turn Signal Socket Replacement
89Tonto replied to JeepinDev89's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
The last time I was working on my front turn signal sockets, I came across this helpful article. This article describes how the side marker lights on the XJ/MJ can be easily rewired so that they too act as turn signals. http://www.madxj.com/MADXJ/technical/TECHNICAL.htm - click on the electrical tab. Now I need to go back in there and replace my socket on the drivers side and/or track down the ground problem. -
I MIGHT have one in 2-3 weeks. I'll keep you posted when available.

I had them on my fiberglass dune buggy- 2110cc!!!

Turn Signal Socket Replacement
89Tonto replied to JeepinDev89's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
That is what mine was doing exactly. Replacing the socket fixed it. What did the socket cost you? Local Carquest wanted $21.15 for one. Has to be a bad price!!!! Found on internet for $3.99 + shipping. Who knows how many they have for that cost. Ordered 3, just in case. -
Did you end up using carb cleaner/WD 40 to detect the vacuum leak?

On the Sno*Bear, the frame mount bolts/clamps to the frame on both sides as shown. Then both sides are connected by an horizontial brace. The two (2) front rods then support the complete frame assembly. Short and sweet. As for electrical connections, there are two (2) wires that get connected to operate the winch. I have quick disconnect connectors for those.

I have a Sno-Bear too for my MJ. I got it used (good price) from a buddy that had it on the front of his Ramcharger. Wanted to keep the wife happy with a semi-cleaned driveway. ;) It's good to do driveways for the mother-in-law, sister-in-law, brother, etc. :clapping: Unfortunately, it doesn't always pay cash. This year, I did away with the UGLY, factory steel plate and switch control. Wired up a sealed control box from an ATV winch control. Nice addition. Although I have a 4" lift on MJ, I still added some pucks up front for the added winter weight. Here is a nice website for anything related to plowing -http://www.plowsite.com

Best way to keep the AW4 cool?
89Tonto replied to Jerry's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Good information TrailReadyMJ. Makes sense not in the tranny but, connection outside the tranny. Which line at the tranny is the correct one. I'm sure you made all hardline connections. (I could crawl under mine and look and make a 50-50 guess) :hmm: I did upgrade my '89 cooling system to the newer "open" system. Therefore oil cooling should be a little better than still using the original system older radiator. As for your stock HD cooling package, didn't that include a factory external tranny cooler? I debated about installing an external cooler on mine only for the winter use- snowblade. For what little I push, is it really needed? What is the correct size to match the truck? Really don't think I need to oversize it. Maybe our next junkyard trip will be looking for XJ factory coolers. I did service the tranny last year with new fluid and filter. Wasn't burnt any, just dirty. -
Best way to keep the AW4 cool?

Is there anyplace on the AW4 where the temp gauge sending unit can be screwed into the case or will it need to be installed up front near the tranny line connections to radiator? :dunno: Thanks...
