  1. Hi guys, My wife recently started a YouTube channel of our adventures. I have had the 1988 Comanche since I was a kid in 1995. Now we are old, but can afford to risk driving a 34 year old truck thousands of miles from home. It been on several trips, one over 2800 miles to Death Valley and Mojave. The last trip ended on kind of a sour note, but it wasn't the Jeep's fault. It's getting some upgrades and will be back on the road soon. Please check it out if you like. ps://m.youtube.com/channel/UCCUwO90LMyZCxrYMzhP6Jwg Camp out west US
  2. Thanks! That means a lot. I've been working to get the MJ back ready for more adventures. In the meantime there might be a few with a non MJ stand in.
  3. You will need to swap the oil and temp sensors for the gauge type senders.
  4. Please see our Comanche overland videos on YouTube.

  6. Hi guys, My wife just started a YouTube channel, mostly featuring our adventures in our 1988 Comanche. https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCCUwO90LMyZCxrYMzhP6Jwg Long story short, I remember reading about the Comanche in 4x4 magazines and how much better it was that the competition, (crummy 2.8 & 2.9 Chevys and Fords). My dad's co-worker showed up with mine when it was brand new at the job site when I was 14 and I loved it. A few years later, my dad saw one in the classifieds and called, not knowing it was his friend's truck. He bought it and a few years I bought it from him. Fast forward almost 30 years and here we are. The poor old Jeep was in pretty rough shape after being used by two loggers and then a punk kid. We put a lot of love into the old rig in the last few years and it's been on several trips, the longest of which was 2800+ miles, to Death Valley, Mojave, Valley of Fire, ETC with no support. The last trip to Idaho ended on a sour note, but it wasn't the truck's fault. She's currently getting rebuilt better than ever. Please check it out if you like. Camp Out West US on YouTube, CampOutwest on Instagram. Thanks!
  7. Looks like you got it all figured out. Nice product! I finally put on my NOS one that I bought when I worked at a dealer back in 1999 last week. It was ordered for a 1988, might have superseded though?
  8. Here's my 1988 Comanche. Ownership has switched back and forth a few times between my dad and I since 1992. I had the window sticker at one time, but it seems to be long gone. Originally a 4.0, BA10/15, np231, 3.07. Skid plates, manual windows, no AC. Currently has a Ford 8.8, AX15, 3.73's, 5.5" lift with a spring over in the rear. VIN 1JTML63P5JT204327. I'm in N. CA near Eureka. After being neglected for several years, the Jeep is getting a update/refresh to go overlanding. It's first trip out of the yard in several years was to the Oregon Gambler 500. It's currently getting a front end rebuild, plus a manual hub conversion and front locker.
  9. About every 75,000 my Comanche starts idling 1500-2000 rpm. A new TPS has fixed it each time, I'm on the 3rd or 4th one now.
  10. The rear holes on mine had holes with a round insert, but we're not threaded.
  11. Hi guys, I need a set of decent wing windows for my '88. I don't care if they open or are fixed. My frames are rusted beyond repair. I also broke the knock sensor on my Renix 4.0 and would like a reasonably priced used one. Thanks! Trey
  12. I wasn't sure that my shop could be completed this winter so I put my restored Fiat Spider inside of an Outdoor Car Capsule. their propaganda is good, but their product is not. We have had the driest winter ever,( actually called an extreme drought), yet this P.O.S. Car Capsule is full of water. Rusty brake rotors, all of the underhood aluminum that I bead blasted is covered in white corrosion and the canvas top is covered with mold inside. The car was waxed and dried and stored with the windows cracked as per the instructions. They claim that the air circulation keeps it dry, but it seems that due to the design, the moisture gets inside and can't escape. There isn't really a way for he air to blow thru. My other car was parked on a car trailer with a cover on it and I'd perfectly fine. Thank goodness my new garage/shop was just completed! If anyone wants a deal on a 22' outdoor Car Capsule let me know. It might be OK inside a dusty shop ar barn but definitely no good outside.
  13. You can buy a GM 3.4 crate motor to replace the 2.8. It might be OK 160 HP http://www.summitracing.com/parts/nal-12363230/overview/
  14. My Comanche used to haul butt with the scrawny stock tires, even with the 3.07 gears. With 32x11.50 and 3.73's it's a turd. I've got a 4.56 front to install and will refer my 8.8 Ford to match.
  15. Be careful mixing and matching headers and gaskets. I had a Pacesetter header and bought a Clifford gasket thinking that it would be an upgrade. It did not properly match the header and soon I was replacing the gasket again. The gasket that I bought from Pacesetter had smaller cutouts for the ports than the Clifford. Eventually, I ended up just putting a new stock replacement manifold on.
  16. Like this but I'm not a fan of the 2dr doors on it That blue one is sweet! It's the 1st one that I have seen that looked right and the longer doors make the cab look more proportional.

    Scored Today

I went to a yard sale today and it had Jeep parts! I bought a Dana 30 with a Detroit locker, Warn axle and hub kit, 4.56 gears, Poison Spyder steering and a diff cover skid plate and: a dana 35 with Superior axles and a Detroit locker with 4.56's plus 4 new shocks and a steering stabilizer. $500, what do you think?
  18. I guess it's time for me too, my pass wiper has been sloppy and either stopping way up on the windshield or slapping on the molding for at least 10 years!
  19. Pretty steep for faded paint and a mismatched shell!
  20. Make sure that you get a catalyzed one, the single part ones don't get very hard. My whole truck is shot with SEM http://www.tcpglobal.com/autobodydepot/sembedliner.aspx
  21. I had my brake lights quit in my '88 several years ago. I ad power at the switch, but nothing at the brake lights. The wire was broken a half inch or so from the connector on the brake light switch, (insulation was intact, but the wire inside was broken). Good luck.
  22. I have had good luck welding a nut to broken off bolts, (weld thru the inside of the nut).
  23. Ya, my Dad sprayed it with SEM bedliner when he had it!
  24. Hey guys, I just got my new-old Comanche back and rejoined. The story is: my Dad bought the Comanche in 1992. In 1995 he bought a new truck and I bought ther Jeep. I had it for 10 years and did a ton of work to try to make it like new: 8.8 Explorer, 5" lift, ax-15 trans, new steering, brakes, wheels and tires and a reman engine. Well, a year or so after the engine swap, the new engine cracked a cylinder wall and hydrolocked for no apparent reason. I was so disgusted, I bought a new truck. After a few months, I calmed down a little and reinstalled the old 230,000 engine that was sitting inside a bad in a cardboard box for the previous year and sold the truck back to my Dad . He has driven it and its gotten a bit rundown in the last 7 years, so he bought a new truck and gave me the Comanche back! It now has approc 300k on the original 4.0. Actually, he was chasing a belt or bearing noise on the front of the engine that we could't figure out. He replaced both idler pullys, the Alt, the water pump, the P/S pump and bypassed the tan pulley and it still makes noise! I've heard of harmonic balancers going bad and rubbing, but I pulled it off and it wasn't. On top of this, he noticed the new radiator was leaking, thats when he bought the new truck! So i'll have to somehow figure it out. Here are a few pics of the old beast.
