I've found the 15w40 Delo or Rotella to work well in older engines, (as have many others). The diesel oils still have more anti-wear additives than regular oil, but not as much as they used to. The viscosity seems to be a good compromise and it's relatively inexpensive by the gallon. I've also been adding 2 ounces of Redline break in additive per oil change. Proceed with caution if you have a catalytic convertor as the anti wear additives can foul them.

I think the included adapters pretty much cover the bases. The parts list for the kit that I ordered shows that it comes with all of the adapters shown below. That is one of the reasons that I went with their kit, I've seen people splicing lines together or having to grind out master CYL mounting holes to mount. I'm also not too crazy about the later plastic hard line. I'm hoping to do it right and do it once. That throwout bearing is definitely a concern. If I don't like it, I'll order a Timken. I couldn't find where anyone had used this particular kit, so we shall see.

There are lots of cool parts on my wish list that I'd rather be purchasing, but after driving home 488 miles from the Black rock Desert with no clutch disengagement whatsoever, it looks like the AA external slave kit is it. Actually, it's already on the way from Summit Racing and expected delivery is 2 days. Dependability has to come before "cool stuff". I looked at piecing together the parts to save a few bucks, but there are no wrecking yards around here. By the time I bought the bellhousing on eBay and ordered the parts from multiple different sources and waited who knows how long, it didn't seem like it was worth the hassle for a few hundred bucks. I'll let you know how the install goes. The clutch setup is a LUK kit with under 15,000 miles on it, (the master and hose were also replaced). The slave failed suddenly and catastrophically. The fluid was leaking out of the bell housing as fast as I could pour it in, even if I didn't touch the clutch. The Comanche was working great for the first week. The only issue was a sticking IAC motor. I finally unplugged it when it returned to a reasonable idle speed and just gave it a little throttle in the AM. Of course, on the first fuel stop after the clutch issue fuel started leaking out of the sender. The lock ring was still tight. I need to get a few trips under it's belt without problems so it regains the trust of my wife! Part 1 of the trip is on YouTube. More to come. My parents' 2020 JLU did have a problem on the trip as well, but it was just a low fob battery that made the alarm go off when you opened the door with the key.

I used a Delphi FP10504 because it was the only one that I could find that wasn't made in China. I think it was made in Mexico. -
There's two that I regularly see on the road and a couple others sitting in yards that I keep an eye on. One is pretty straight, but has been sitting with the window down for a year or so. 2018 tags on the plate. He wouldn't sell the last time that I asked.

It was just a kit to convert the mini console to the full console. For some reason, there was way less markup on accessories and performance parts than replacement parts. I remember pulling a "Mopar Performance" gear reduction starter out of a box and it had a standard PN on it. It came up as fitting a v6 mini van at about double the cost. I wish I could have bought more stuff at the time, but I was poor.🙄

I worked in the parts department at a Dodge dealership from 1998-2001. I remember "5 star" being a big deal at the time. I have a 5 star watch somewhere as well as a Mopar one. I had the Comanche at the time and remember buying Manual window regulators, interior lamps and a closeout Mopar accessory XJ center console for dirt cheap. Too bad I didn't buy some tail lamps!

Interested to see where he goes with the MJ. Simple shop truck or built off roader?

Not sure how many of you are running the long discontinued Spectre cowl intake, but I found an easy solution for the hard to access oil cap. I found a NOS one on eBay a few years ago, but tired of pulling the whole thing off to add oil. Speedway sells a kit to add an oil fill cap. It's a little tedious grinding away the fins to make a smooth surface, but worked pretty good. https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Valve-Cover-Oil-Filler-Cap,48973.html VID_20220909_124110675.mp4

I believe they have been discontinued for years. I lucked out a few years ago and someone Had several NOS ones for sale on eBay. PN 9945.

You can often get wheel boxes from a local tire shop. I have been using Pirate Shop lately for UPS and USPS an a significant discount over consumer rates. I hear that Fastenall also has good rates, but I have never used them.

Thanks! That was rough, it took a bit to regroup but in the grand scheme if things, it's just a story not tell now. I think my wife still has a little PTSD, but she is still ready to go on more adventures.

I can't deal with the peeling clear. Old paint maybe.

Our friends are moving out of state and owned about thirty vehicles. They got tired of making trips and gave us a 1989 Cherokee. I don't really need another project, but how could I say no? It's a desert rig, so it's rust free, but has baked paint. The story is that the PO paid someone to do an engine swap and put in a good running 92 HO engine. He swapped over the Renix parts and it has never run again. My friend did some troubleshooting and was pretty sure that they didn't change the flexplate to the Renix, but never got a chance to dig into it Confirmed!, it does have the HO flexplate! Hopefully I'll have a decent running rig with a little work. I am dreading the paintwork though.

Hi guys, Thanks to everyone who was interested in our YouTube videos and the Comanche's resurrection from the lake incident. It is back better than it was and we just completed a 600+ mile trip to camp with YouTube celebrities Jason from Primal Outdoors and Donald from Soft reading the West. More to come. https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCCUwO90LMyZCxrYMzhP6Jwg

The Golden Eagle Comanche that Jerry Bain built has a cut down aluminum shell with a rack built around it. So sweet!

Believe me, I've looked at it pretty hard, it's a sweet setup. I really prefer not to tow a trailer off road though. Someone does need to buy that!

Thanks guys we appreciate your support. Hopefully, we will be back in the Jeep soon. Honestly, I was super surprised when she made the first video. Neither one of us has ever been crazy about the camera. I'm still working on not feeing like a complete dufus in front of the camera, I've been trying to be involved a bit more. We just returned from the Oregon Coast and met up with some other YouTubers. There should be a video before too long. Sorry, we had to cheat and take the RAM again. I have 2 weeks and weekends to try to get the Comanche ready for the next trip, I'm going to try, but it's gonna be tough to have it done in time. howeitsdone, Awesome, glad to see you out using it! We used the Ram on the last few trips, I am really appreciating the shell. I feel like the Comanche with the exposed gear screams "here's stuff to steal". I also appreciate the weather and dust protection. I can't decide if a 3/4 height rack to lower the tent a bit or a shell with the lowest profile tent I can afford would be the best solution. Actually, I think that would be ideal, but also the most expensive. DesertRat1991, we try to plan for mild weather, but Heather has to schedule time off 6 MOS in advance, so we usually have to have backup destinations planned. She sure has been a trooper, despite my insulation efforts, the heat inside the cab really builds up after hours of driving.

Apparently, when someone uses a link to go to the video, it doesn't count as a view. The viewer has to actually hit the play button. We are so far from being monetized I don't really think it matters, though. I'm hoping the channel will go well enough that she will stick with it, and we will get to go on more adventures.
