shawn replied to MancheKid86's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
ya , its a good looking front end - i didnt realize that the mounts were different from 86 to 87. there must be quite a few potential parts rigs in ur neighbourhood . uve done a lot of good things with that truck ---good luck. here's some nearby junk : http://kelowna.en.craigslist.ca/cto/1762112107.html who knows .................................. -

really looks excellent ! -
ya, thanx pete, i was thinking about asking you to do just that once i realized how this thread was going. -- it was supposed to be just me doing some quick bragging (lol), but one thing leads to another .............

its grey. when i got it it was so covered in slime that i thought it was black. new clutch master going in tomorrow. brakes turned out excellent with the by-pass of the load-sensing-round-thingy. lol. gonna do the vacuum-disco elimination thing too. seems like the right thing to do. the weird thing is all electrical worked great ,and now its the same as that other post. as of yesterday no signals, radio , heater, int lights. ------ electical is the one thing that disturbs me the most.

got the headliner done it turned out really nice. material is a bit thick though. hard to get the back corners to lay properly. still I'm very plesed though. I'm so surprised how well this truck runs and drives. waaaaaaaay better than i expected. and from when i found it and dragged it home. $300. and another explanation to the wife.

i definitely prefer an auto in this neighbourhood. especially in the coast mountains, what with all the tight roads and cross ditches. also better with the camper i bet. -- when i first got mine i seriously wanted to convert it to auto and am still hoping to find one ( gotta be a 4.0 though). and yes, I'm sure that 89 would definitely be a 4 litre. if u havnt driven a 4.0, you really gotta give it a try.

i still say he should buy that mj in nanaimo and call it done. -- waaaaaaaaaaay more class, unique-ness, tough-ness, and with the savings he could spend the whole summer cruising around bc camping. ---

clutch master cylinder ---- will it fit ?
shawn replied to shawn's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
thank you gentlemen. new one on the way -
"plus when i had my xj i slid my collar over and re installed the vac ting and it was locked in all the time i got crappy fuel mileage " i've heard doing this didnt really decrease fuel mileage in any noticable way. thanks for the sticky - I'm motivated now.

i see lots of potential too, -and potential fun. -the donor vehical looks good too! lol.

i was just saying that this morning ,lol. -- today is the 12th day of rain in a row and my wife says theres about 15 more days of it to come. -started eating vitamin D pills this morn. lonely kayaks sitting in the garage, fishing rods unused, lawn in need of mowing, the worste part is i have the feeling that as soon as it gets nice i will have to go back to work.

can i use the clutch master cylinder from my '95 xj ( 4.0, 5spd) in my '86 mj ( 2.5, 5 spd) ???. putting in a new slave didnt solve my prob of needing to give the clutch pedal a "pump".

Changing a headliner (lots of pictures)
shawn replied to Squeegy410's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
funny coincedence- i don't ususally look in this part of the forum ( don't know why, - i should be more often) but just last night i was doing my headliner. didnt quite get it finished and it was getting late, so i figured id do the last bit of the edges today. went and sat at comp and this was the first post in line in this forum. i used the 3m-90 stuff as it was recommended by the upholstery place. i used black vinyl and its looking good , but i do wish i had used some thinner stuff. they had the nice, thinner perferated stuff there but not quite enough of it so i just went with this. i have the feeling the other material would lay better in the back corners but i didnt want to wait for them to get it in. the other mistake i made was trimming it a bit to close along the front edge, but i think with some clamping it will still work out ok. will post pics somewhere if it turns out . -
lol on the spelling police, and lol on darren.

"I too have been there and done that. I ran mine with out the valve and blocking the return line for a long time. no issues at all! Every single PU I have had locked up the rear brakes first, its never been an issue. Eliminating the rear prop valve and swapping in a XJ prop valve with the MJ's junction block under the master cylinder IMHO is our best choice." - CW this makes sense to me so this is what ive done - except used the mj distribution block as it was laid out in the pics. ------ will road test tomorrow and if its good -then great, -if not - good, will put in the xj distribution block. ----
-
:wall: :wall: i was looking for an icon of a guy pulling his hair out , but this will have to do. if I'm understand this at all, - plug the line off the bottom front of the "distribution block" -(is this a "return line?), run the ONE line from the front of said block to a " T" at the rear, and run those lines to the wheel cylinders. thereby eliminating the rear proportioning valve.

thank you eagle. ive never had much luck with the search feature and my mechanic went to check with his boss while i was there and was told that it was a necessary item and doom and gloom would happen (to me) if he wasnt able to save it. could u give me a breif over-veiw of how to by-pass it ? --do u mean just have the lines go directly to the wheel cylinders ?
-
so i blew a rusty old brake like out (and have an exhaust leak below the manifold on the 86. - 4 cyl) i figure i will wheel in to my mechanic and get it changed, -not so simple it looks like. all the lines and bleeders are very , very rusty and he figures all will break including the proportioning valve. ---- nice to replace it but napa has never been able to get one. I'm just wondering if anyone has run across this kinda prob before and any advice is , as usual, greatly appreciated.

couldnt u just take the 89 instead ? buckets.console,d44, header, bush gaurd, new motor, colour keyed canopy, box liner and a few quirks.
