its too bad they didn't sell diesel XJs/MJs in Japan........you could have brought home a very nice swap. FYI your probably more likely to find a 97+ XJ front half cut.......and since you have to pull the dash and everything anyways, might as well upgrade it to a nicer interior.

Correction, don't look at it wrong.

nice score.

So the vent drums come out with the bezel? Excellent -- if I don't trash the bezel. Mine's a 5-speed, so I assume you want me to put it in 2nd or 4th. Where do I pull to have the bezel come off intact rather than in small pieces? Top? Bottom? Sides? Pull up like it's hinged at the top, or straight out? Strait out, just grab it where you can and pull it back out. You actually don't need to move the shifter, but it does help.
-
Yes they just pop out, but don't remove them that way. Instead remove the whole bezel. Put the shifter in 1st/2nd(or whatever gear it decided to pick) and then grab the radio bezel and pull back, it just pulls off, if its never been off before it might take a little force. Once this is off you can actually access the vent behind the "shutters"

I'm with you on that, federal jobs are usually pretty secure, and getting your high three with a GS 14 leaves you with a nice retirement package. My old man has been a fed for as long as I have been around, and right now is setup with a pretty nice high 3(think top level NASA employee in southern california). right now he is torn between sticking with the same job and getting the best high 3 he can, or leaving california to go somewhere where he can afford to live, and probably taking a lower paying job. that and he kinda hopes something opens up at headquarters in DC and he can transfer to SES.

Yes thats what I thought you meant, I know of other data bus's where that is the case, but had never seen in on the CCD bus(or PCI/CAN) Does the PCI bus have something similar?
-
I'm not sure how the payscale works, but if you were on the GS scale you could come back and work to get your high 3, then leave with that.

I'm working on my undergraduate Mechanical Engineering degree. This semester I am taking: Heat and mass transfer Engineering Design III Materials Science Machine Design. Next year onto senior design, personally I want to be on the plug in hybrid project.

What do you mean by termination? If necessary I could bench build a complete XJ for programming purposes.

My J1850 is a little rusty, really I only know how to ask where the bathroom is.

I don't see how that could be a great resource for WJ wheels, since the WJ has a 5-on-5 bolt circle and the wheels shown are pretty much all 5-on-4 1/2. I don't know what your talking about. All the WJ wheels I posted(14 by my count) outnumber the 5x4.5 wheels I posted(4), the gamblers shown make 5 different 5x4.5" pictures posted.

5v source if you need to tie in sensors, ECUs, etc, plus a 12V regulator just for the hell of it, I am/was assuming that some preexisting 12V source would be used. I dunno what else would need to be in place, there is no BCM on the XJ, but there are other modules, on the CCD, PCM, TCU, ACM, ABS, and guage cluster(plus the read only overhead console). If I did build a benchtop setup, would you be willing to program some other things for me? The problem is I don't have access to a DRB or starscan....other than paying a dealer......
-
Well any chance you could grab an XJ and the DRB and take my sets and program them for me? Finding the XJ would be the problem. We don't have anything older than 2008 there. (of course if there were a couple of silverstars available for purchase :brows: :brows: ) Nice? How many were there and how much did you get them for? I could build a benchtop programmer for it, just connect to power and plug in the DRB, think you could do that for me? I meant get the silverstars FROM you. Aren't you sitting on 30 or 40? . I was thinking about the benchtop idea. I think I saw a couple of DLCs kicking around in a box somewhere. Would need to power up the DRB and the reciever module, and supply bus between them. Can't remember if they talk over the CCD or the SCI bus for the program mode. Ya I have a couple of DLCs here too(somewhere), grab a voltage regulator, spare RKE receiver connector, connect them via CCD, and you would have a nice little setup to program via the CCD. RKE pinout:

Which wheel?
-
They are mated with the RKE receiver in the dome light/overhead console, as long as you take a mated pair of the transmitter and receiver you can install them into different XJs. I have about 4-5 receiver boards, and only one transmitter that is programmed to them(in my XJ). While they cannot be "bench" programmed, they can be programmed in the vehicle, then removed and reinstalled in another. In this fashion several could be programmed at the same time.

I have a lab class that is 3 hours long, and requires about 5 hours outside of lab each week working on a writeup. All that for a one credit lab. What a rip.

Yup, great resource for WJ wheels, untill I found that page I didn't realize how many variations there acutally were. Don't worry, its a work in progress, and I'm keep track of my sources 8) Yes, you'll see I have those listed as well, those were listed as the "Rally" wheels. We need to find out which years specifically they were offered as an upgrade, on both XJs, MJs, and YJs. Still a good number of wheels to add, ZJs, YJs, older MJ/XJ, WKs, KAs, XKs......... Sooo many wheels.
-
I'm pretty sure that the XJ does not have that feature. aemsee, still have that DRB? I have several remote/reciever sets that I wouldn't mind getting programmed. PITA to get by the dealer for such a simple thing.

Hehehehe, check out this little thing I scored:

Three switch in the US. I have only seen the 3 switch here, even on police models, but the 4 switch is pretty common overseas, they all have rear wiper, rear defrost, and rear fogs. Then on those that have the optional front fogs there is the 4 switch panel. Yup, there ECU just has a provision for the high idle as one circuit, so its pretty easy to add to any gasoline XJ. I don't think the diesel XJs had the option though. -

Is it not, I am using the XJ APPS and mating it to the KJ APPS. I have the reference voltages for the KJ APPS, but I don't have them from a XJ, and I haven't been able to measure the output voltage yet, hopefully the specs are the same or I will be able to resistor trick them to be close enough. You can follow these types of developments more closely here in my build thread: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=10092
