Just wondering what the pros n cons are of this common mod. Would it be a useful mod on my camper hauling MJ? And what's involved to do the job? Just thinking about possible suspension mods 'cos I blew out one of the air springs again this weekend. No suprise really, I was wheeling up an undeveloped trail with a camper on board :fool:

pressure wash in engine bay?
Jerry replied to October_V's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Last time I did that the gearbox refused to change out of 1st until I was half way home  It fixed itself OK though, no problems since  -

I've been dealing with overheating issues recently. Have you made sure the cooling system has been "burped" of air? Also, so you don't worry about it too much, in the original owners manual it says that "under certain conditions (long hills on hot days, stopped in traffic, towing) your vehicle may overheat, if this happens pull over but do not switch off, bring the revs up slightly to circulate coolant for about 15 seconds". I tried this and the temp does drop rapidly as opposed to just shutting it off right away which means it has to cool by radiating heat from the block naturally.

Ok I'll try that. Any other things like oxygen sensors and stuff? -
What sort of grill?

What should I look at first? :help: please It runs and drives fine but at idle has a misfire every few seconds. Nothing major, just a little hiccup now and again. I'd love to get it running smoooooth! Any ideas?

That darn buzzer when I put the key in the ignition
Jerry replied to LarryH88bt's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Looks like this, lives by fuses. Unplug, remove  -
Take all the tool you can carry! :wrench: Murhpy's law says if you don't, it'll crap out on you, take them all and you probably won't need any of them. Also carry plenty of water in case you have a leaky cooling system, top up as you go to get home. Good luck on your journey! Let us know how it goes . . .

"Over The Top", I've just realised how that could be misunderstood!! I just meant OTT as in "That's way over the top man, what's wrong with a tent?!"

A full on camper is OTT for most MJ owners but "for what it's worth" in the Comanche scheme of things, ya might be suprised at just how capable the MJ is hauling one (even my 2.8L does great). We've been to some out the way places through some knarly terrain and up unmaintaned FSR's to the top of mountains without problems. You just have to take it steady, think ahead and gear up appropriately. Ideally I'd have a bumper winch but current finances dictate I make do with a hand crank comealong for emergencies. Oh Yeah! One more thing, load levellers are essential! If anyone wants info on that give me a shout cos they are a PIA to fit and I've done it twice now :wrench: Last weekend :brows:

Thanks all

Hmmmm :hmm: OK thanks Cracker It does have a horn already though?? I guess I should check to see if it's the original. Time to get the multimeter out

Can anyone help me identify this stock wire? Looks like it could be for extra lights maybe? Appears out of the wiring harness to the left of the rad.

Like wise. This "Honey Goo" stuff is my favourite product ever, kills rust and creeps into nooks, crannies and water traps to stop any further rusting http://www.kleenflo.com/en/productpages/800.htm

7mm!? Sorry bit of a tangent here Smithe. What's the deal with the nut & bolt sizes on these trucks? Every time I start spannering I need a different socket & wrench set! One day it's Imperial the next it's Metric! :huh???:

After market electric radiator fans and overheat issues?

That's some useful MJ testing data! -
After market electric radiator fans and overheat issues?
Jerry replied to Jerry's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
i'll try locking the fan so it can't slip and see if that makes any difference. I think I can rule out any blockages in the radiator as it's only six months old. The PO isn't sure if the thermostat was changed so I'll do that and give the system a flush. There is some bug netting behind the grill, could that cause a sufficient reduction in air flow? -
After market electric radiator fans and overheat issues?
Jerry replied to Jerry's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Darn! No A/C so maybe it didn't come with an electric fan. The rad and viscous fan are brand new, properly box fresh brand new, so I'm guessing they are in GWO. Apart from the thermostat are there any other common reasons why the overheat light would come on under those conditions? Which are: stationary and idling for approx ten minutes on a medium warm day. Any of you guys out there have the light come on like that? It's fine when on the move. Although I don't have a temp gauge so it could be running hot all the time :dunno:
