  1. Sticky second here too. Probably just years of quick 1st to 2nd shifts wearing on the synchro. I find mine goes in better if I let the motor rev out a little more before shifting. And being gentle but firm on the lever
  2.
  3. Update. It's a beaut! Sorry folks, like a gert arse I forgot to take a camera! :fool: So here's the text version....... Surface rust apart it's in good nick. Seams as mention are all good. Got it running, it started up fairly easily having been idle for over a year. I don't know how the motor will cope with being aircared though. I didn't notice too much smoke but I was a bit excitable at the time :clapping: It's a half finished project so most of the big stuff has been done, brake lines (& I assume brakes), body work (floor pans), new engine (apparently) and instrument console. Transmission and drive shafts need to be reinstalled. Bench seat needs to be sorted as it currently has two unfitted seats from a junkyard in it. And general tidying is required. I'm sold, I just need to figure out how to pay for it which is still "work in progress" for now :(
  4. LOL :rotfl2: Rest easy sir, you already are the only USA MJ camper! I'm in Canada :Canadaflag:
  5. Glad your back to normal  Any idea why they'd put in a 4.0L? mpg maybe?
  6. That is an aspect that I really like! It's one of the reasons I used to love my Suzuki Samurai. So easy to work on! Easy access is a great thing on vehicles (and some other things too :brows: ). It always scares me to look under the hood of a modern car, I always think the same thing, "where's the engine?". Usually I see a large lump of plastic with some fancy writing on :dunno: Cars for the playstation generation, you don't wrench them you plug them into a computer which then tells you to replace the engine  I'm just rambling now until I can get to see this truck later today  For some reason I don't really seem to be able to concentrate on my work :wall: Remember this?
  7. I wasn't going to say anything :rotfl2: Thanks for the Monday moring smile that brought  It's equipped with an AMC 360 V8 4 bbl. http://www.jeeptech.com/engine/amc360.html I don't think it'd be able to pull away going down hill if it had a 2.8L  What's a "4 bbl" then? Four barrel Carb?
  8. I'll keep ya'll posted on progress if there is any
  9. Cool, sounding fairly positive so far then. I'll go take a looky to see if there are any nasty suprises lurking and get some decent photos for you guys to see. Is there anything I should look for specifically apart from rust?
  10. Well alright, a money pit of a less serious nature then
  11. Hi guys, can I have some help please. I've seen this advertised today. It's up for $1200ca and according to the seller, it's not too rusty, the motor runs and it just needs the transfer case bolting back in to be road ready. Obviously it needs some TLC but I thought it might do a better job of hauling my camper than the MJ. I reckon I could get it for more like $750 Is this a good idea or could I be looking at a money pit? Appreciate any advice because for now I'm still a truck buying novice :dunce: Image Not Found Image Not Found
  12. No leaks here thankfully and fresh oil, 2nd gear synchromesh is buggered I think. Gets better as it warms up  Anyone worked out how many 2WD Comanches were sold then?
  13. Take out the viscous fan temporarily and see if that makes any difference? :dunno:
  14. I like that factoid! It does make sense. I often have to fight with my Comanche's gearbox! And when it's cold just trying to get past the frozen doors and locks is a battle :rotfl2:
  15. So I have one of the 190,446 4x4 MJ's off the production line Cool So if most of those were sold in North America which is 9,540,000sq miles area (thanks wikipedia) then that means there is approximately one Comanche for every 50sq miles. So that's why I don't them very often! OK, so how many blue ones were there  I'm just having some fun here  Anyone got any other interesting random MJ factoids?
  16. A million? Two million? A thousand? Anyone know? Or know where to find out? I was just wondering
  17. My V6 was running cold, I tried a new thermostat, no joy. And I even got to the stage of covering the radiator with a piece of cardboard! When I did this I noticed the oil pressure was dropping off noticably indicating the engine/oil temp was rising above normal. My last resort before replacing the gauge was to go through and clean up all the temperature sensor electrical connectors in the engine bay. Success!! Maybe worth a try for you, mine were all gummed up  I guess that the voltage in the temp gauge system rises with temperature which is why it appears to work correctly when the engine gets real hot and therefore the voltage gets to a point where the gauge starts responding properly. It happened to me in the summer crawling up a mountain pass in +30C with the camper onboard plus a cab full of people and gear  the gauge suddenly started to show a big increase in temp. Never went into the red though, good truck! edit: As above also :agree: worth getting a suitable workshop temperature gauge and seeing what the running temp actually is right next to the sensor on the head/manifold. I did this and it show around 84C which is what the thermostat is rated at.
  18. Mine were a bit sticky so I took them out and squirted a small amount of WD40 on all the moving parts. They work fine now
  19. MJ6 4WD ;)
  20. I know that with no load onboard they're very quick. I guess it's got a suitable name
  21. OK, I'm now a bit wiser  So what type of conditions do they fail under? Normal use or mainly when mudding where higher loads are encountered and bigger diameter wheels are often used? edit: whaddya reckon to my new avatar :D
  22. I've read about people breaking axles regularly but I've no idea what part in the axle system fails. Is it the crown wheel and gear? The shafts? The bearings? The housings? What are the main weak points?
  23. ;) Create your own here: http://bighugelabs.com/flickr/motivator.php
  24. FWIW, I use one of these on my bike helmet. The transmitter bulb replaces the original tail light bulb and you put the receiver light (third brake light) wherever you want. Brake light comes on transmits signal to the receiver light and it activates too. You could use several if you wanted. The down side is the receivers are run on a battery pack but I've found they'll do a good 9 months before they need fresh batteries http://www.ridesafer.com/Wireless_Helmet_Brake_Light_p/w3bl01.htm
  25. Glad to see you're making a strong recovery Cin :wavey:
