Downey SST Tonneau Cover
streetjeep2.5 replied to relyt120's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Not a close up, but have this of mine taken a few years ago when cover had been on for about 5 years. Still in good shape at almost 10 years. -
Downey SST Tonneau Cover

Order that puppy and put it on! You will be happy! But, keep it in good shape! Make sure and get it on correctly because there is a slight difference in front and back width. I also put camper tape on the bottom of the rails to keep it from scratching and to help with sealing. I periodically remove mine and clean and wax under it. Also, I now keep my spare tire in the bed and a tool box, not one of the front of bed all the way across ones, but a tool box. I also have a Cintas floor mat in there that fits between the fender wells with about 3 inches of space front and back. Keeps things from scratching the bed and moving around! Good investment, and looks cool! -

Can't comment on this exact one, but I bought a Downey (think it was SST) for my swb over 10 years ago and it fits great and is still in real good shape. I keep my 'manche garaged as much as possible, and keep the cover conditioned with a vinyl cleaner, and when it snows, try to keep it brushed off. I also regularly wash my truck and chamois it, including the tonneau. BTW, did a quick search on that site using the part number they give in your link and it does not show up for any other vehicle, so I would say it is a very good possibility it is for the 'manche swb only. Then, I swiped the link just in case! :brows: -
Way to Go, gramps! It's a lot of fun. Been one for 14 years now and have 3 on the ground and one in the hopper!

HELP PLEASE RADIATOR INFO....
streetjeep2.5 replied to COFFMAN's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm thinking on a carburated 68 327 in mine. On a chevy site, I was told this should be plenty adequate given their quoted horsepower rating. As they said, one of the main things is moving the air through it, so get a good electric fan! I do believe I have run across people who used a good electric fan with the stock 4.0 radiator with a chevy small block for street use and it has been fine. http://www.championradiators.com/page/419843580 Difference is where the out and in are on the radiator, but if you use an electric fan, I think it can be made to work with some routing of hoses using some solid tubing along the bottom of the radiator. -

Yea on the "moat"! Frozen ground and fast melting snow makes for puddles and small lakes everywhere!!! Farmers are wishing the ground wasn't frozen so it would soak in, I bet! -

New to the Minnesota area as of last September and in Minneapolis area (Robbinsdale), but my MJ is a 4x2 and since it doesn't do well in snow, stays garaged most of the winter. Welcome

Manual Steering? My 4 popper is. I have a clunk now and then also. I figured with 350,000 miles might as well replace everything, so I have all tie rod components and a new Kevins offroad bracket/trackbar. Waiting for warmer weather also! Concrete kinda cold! But, while THINKING about doing it one day, also found my stabilizer shock is worn on the axle end and "clunks" and when I move it sounds like what I am hearing. The shock moves on the bolt, thankfully not the bolt moving in the hole!. Might check that. -
Was up checking weather with the rain/ice/snow storm here in Minneapolis and on a farm station an advertisement for this Rust Prevention product came on. Didn't know if it would help any of you. Here is the link: http://www.rustguy.com/www.rustguy.com/index-2.html

Couple of things: Yes, there are police officers who give a bad name to police officers. Happens in the military but we don't label every military person something similar to "pig" for that reason, do we? There are those who sold parts on this list that did things in a bad way, but that does not mean when you sell parts here you should be given a "pig" kind of name. My daughter, when young, got hives twice, the second time in her throat. She was hospitalized. They wanted to do those tests that would poke her with a lot of needles to find out the cause. Before they did, wife and I investigated, and finding the ONLY thing different was what she ate at school on those two days, and it was the only times they served it. Told the doc what I found out but he still wanted to do the tests because HE was the doctor, not me. We said no and took her home, and whenever the school was going to serve that again she took lunch and never had hives again. BUT, that does not mean every doctor is to be labeled with a "pig" kind of name. Second, it is really good that the compressor did not sell as fast as the crook hoped! HOPE YOU GET HIM OR HER!!!!

Checked the web and although I couldn't find dates for the St. Petersburg Grand Prix of 1989 (ran only 1989 and 1990 and was shut down because residents and businesses complained of noise, but was then revived) the current ones run in the spring of the year. SOOOOO ... a 1990 as the pace car in March or April of 1989????? Don't sound right! But, if those two years were in the fall of the year, well, possibly ....

That's neat! And, the get rarer. In my 3 months in the Minneapolis area and lots of driving, have not seen another. On getting pulled over in a Comanche: Moved from the state of Washington to Missouri in 2004. Got Missouri plates for our Cherokee and my Comanche. On two lane road I'm in my comanche and State patrolman drives past me in opposite direction. Whips on his lights and turns around. :huh???: I pull over, turn comanche off and place hands on steering wheel in plain sight. They like that, said an officer I knew some years ago. :D He walks up with hand on holster. Asks: "do you know why I pulled you over?" "No sir", I say. :dunno: "Why do you have passenger car plates on a pickup." he asks. (Now know why he had hand on holster). :ack: I say, "the state of Missouri issued them to me." "Please show me the registration." (had still on holster). I SLOWLY get it out of glove box and hand it to him. He looks at it. "Well, they issued you the wrong plates. You need to get that taken care of!" :smart: I do. Told Missouri DMV what happened and suggested they ask questions if not sure. Didn't know a Comanche is a pickup, and that Washington considers light weight pickups a passenger car. Missouri doesn't. Missouri DMV ASSumed what Washington said on it's registration was same for Missouri. :dunce: Moral to the story .... IF you move to another state, MAKE sure they get it right.

Oh, a really clean ride! Love it, especially since he has my tonneau!

So sorry to hear about your puppy. Dogs really are a super delight. Sadly the more "pure" bred they are, the more physical problems there are. Hip displasia (sp?) cancers, etc. Mutts generally live longer. Had one for 18 years once, but have had purebreds and 12 years has been the max with one. Others? 7 years to 8 years.

My 87 is not wandering the streets of the Robbinsdale area, up and down 100 a lot. when the snow and salt starts, it is parked! It now had land of 10,000 lakes plates! -

Gonna be moving to Robbinsdale, MN at the end of this week with my wife and her 2010 Patriot, my 87 'manche and my dog and cat! -
Neohic said "As far as I know, I'm the closest. There is another that is just south of where you'll be, but he hasn't been on here in a while... I think he jumped ship. Currently I'm in the St. Cloud area but am moving to Alexandria before you get here." And xjrev10 said "I'm about 200 miles north of the Twin Cities" Hmmm. Minnesota a somewhat commanche free state??? ;)

Know what you mean. Lived in the Kansas City area for eight years. It's known for raining ice that turns roads into skating rinks. I had a front wheel drive 1985 chevy cavalier at the time. Drove sensible and made it fine while 4wd's were off the road everywhere. Lesson learned quick with a standard trans front wheel drive; don't let off the gas while in gear and going down hill on icy roads ... the engine quits and you have sliding front wheels! Take that thing out of gear! But, still I will NOT drive my rust free 'manche if there is salt on the roads, unless absolutely necessary! No how, no way! It's an 87 short bed that has 340,000 miles, never been wrecked in any way (small dent on the top of the tail gate), original paint (white) that still waxes out very nice, not a whole bunch of rock chips that get taken care of almost right away, and a factory rear bumper that when I got it was slightly twisted and bent in on the outsides of the mounting brackets that pounded out and painted up fairly nice that I don't want plowed into by anyone. Besides, want to park it eventually and get my 327 in it and then I will have my ... STREET JEEP!

I am a Lutheran Pastor and in about 4 to 5 weeks I and wife will be moving from Montgomery City, MO to Robbinsdale, MN. I will be serving as the pastor of a church there. So, my Missouri MJ that first wore Washington State tags will soon be wearing Minnesota tags, but it won't be roaming the roads up there in the winter! Two reasons: It's a 4x2, and it is, except for a couple of surface spots, rust free. Sooooo ... any members in the Minneapolis area????

This one was $10.

got em too. Easy fit. Look good. Nice and bright. -
...you buy parts at a Jeep dealership and have to explain what a Comanche is and give details to the parts guys !

It was pretty sticky and dirty but no cracks, evenly worn, only needed to remove the plastic ring that looks like it has torx head bolts and glue it flat. And, the right color!!!!
