A guy at Pep Boys suggested keeping it simple. Use baking soda and water. I made kind of a paste, used a sponge for the large areas and a wire brush on the really soiled areas. They came out spotless. Cleaned 24 years off the kick panels and interior vinyl cab parts. Someone from work had given me "Wipe New", which brought the color and finish back to new. Baking soda worked better than brake clean, acetone or Wesley's Bleche-White.

I will in the future, but in New Hampshire the vehicle has to be 25 years old, meaning; they issue tags in the 26th annual registration period. The state DMV website reads: "Vehicle must be over 25 years old and maintained for use in exhibitions, club activities, parades and other functions of public interest. Plates issued at any DMV Office."

Nice discovery this afternoon ... I have much of the interior out to clean up the floors. While things are setting up, I decided to install the mounting hardware for the console and discovered there are already punch marks in the tunnel for the holes that need be drilled. Love it!

I did research other options ... Wet Okole has had good reviews on here, but I had mine reupholstered for the same price and could pick the material.

That would be RubberDuck's old truck. He's a member here, but doesn't look like he's been on since May. I have the brackets for the buckets from that truck in my truck!

Ugh... poor choice of words. They're reupholstered/recovered, not off the rack covers. I got a "friend" price from someone that does it professionally. The first upholsterer I went to quoted $700 for what you see. NO, I didn't pay anywhere near that, but it was expensive.

The new carpet arrived ... looks good and the color is spot on. The jute backing is 1/2" as advertised, but I discoverd that's also half the thickness of the stock carpet backing. I planned to put some sound deadening material in anyway, so I guess it won't be too bulky. The good news is there wasn't any moisture in the carpet or pad. One question/concern ... there were two pieces of white, fiberous material wrapped in plastic. I wore gloves and a mask when I took it off the backing. I can't imagine they were still using asbestos in 1990, but the material runs front to back of the cab right over the exhaust. There was also a triangular piece in the passenger footwell against the firewall. It's dry, so I'm going to put it back in whe I install the carpet.

Carpet's out. About what I expected. After wire brushing the flaky stuff off, the only hole was in one of the plugs.

Last post for tonight ... errr ... this morning (hey, I'm on vacation and having a little libation ... for the MJ Gods, if you will). Second order of business for me, is to clean up the interior (workin' on it). With inspiration from the seats in Earl*t's gorgeous October 2013 MJOTM, and a great deal from KKilmer87 on some buckets, I did a low budget (friggin' expensive for me) seat cover set to match my XJ Country interior theme.

First order of business is to separate your ride from the herd. Best way to do it? Wheels. I opted for the Rubi Moab 16X8. Not a huge reach, but I think they had it right when they put this wheel out. Looks good on the 4x4 MJ without any suspension mod.

1990 Pioneer 4X4, auto, 4.0, long box. As near as I can tell, I’m the 4th registered owner and nearly all the maintenance records came with the truck. I found it on Winston-Salem, NC Craigslist. The seller had accepted the truck as partial payment for a house painting job. A great guy who was driving the truck daily and took pictures of everything I asked. After some negotiation, I struck a deal with him and he even coordinated transport to New Hampshire.

Greetings all … I’ve been lurking for a few years and have been a CC member since January 2013. I’ve had a number of Jeep vehicles over the years. Present DD is an ’01 XJ and I’m formally introducing my ’90 MJ. I have more questions than answers, but I’m a quick study, willing to help and always pay it forward. I've been stockpiling stuff for the interior for a year. Hope to get much of it done this week as I'm on a long awaited vacation. I have no garage, so I'm literally a back yard (ahem ... I use the term loosely) mechanic. Got to working on the console yesterday afternoon. With printed picture of Jeepsouth's success in hand I commenced cutting ... here are the results. The new carpet should arrive today. The console is resting in place.

I've gone with the XJ "Country" theme in my MJ ... bought the bezel on eBay and door panels from a CC member. When I had my buckets reupholstered, the insert in the lower back, side bolsters and seat base match the wood trim. My interior is grey. <> .

It's been a couple months, but I finally bought the carpet I wrote of earlier. I'm on vacation next week (yay) and hope to install the new purchase. I'll take lots of pictures and will share my review.

I have a '90 MJ with the 4.0. The coolant bottle has a couple hairline cracks at the top (sorry, no pic) and it's leaking. Googled a replacement and found several on eBay.
