Who Has Long Arms on There Comanche?
ROADLESS replied to holeski's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Pete, those look just like ones from a 76 F-150 i owned. How do you like this setup? 8) -
I had a similar problem, only my gauges were not reading correctly, some seemed stuck, others went up and down. Ended up being the braided engine to body ground at the back of the head! I completely removed it (the nut that attaches it to the back head bolt) and cleaned out the engine grime which had accumulated on the back head bolt and nut over time. Gauges work fine now! :D

1989 Jeep Comanche original Service Manual Needed
ROADLESS replied to bekkip's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Are you certain? "The" factory XJ manual for 1988 was the 1986 Cherokee manual, with separate add-on volumes for the transmission; engine; transfer case; electrical system; and I think something else that I can't recall at the moment. It did NOT include the MJ, which was also a 1986 FSM (for the MJ) with supplementary books to cover the equipment that didn't exist or wasn't used in 1986. Bwteen the XJ and the MJ I think I've probably spent about $300 for factory service manuals, and that only covers the transmission and transfer cases I own. I haven't bought a FSM for the 242 transfer case or the AX-15 tranny because they are covered in the '94 XJ/YJ manual, which I have. I just hope there weren't a lot of changes in the intervening 6 years. No. But this is good to know, i @$$umed they were the same! :papers: -
1989 Jeep Comanche original Service Manual Needed
ROADLESS replied to bekkip's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It appears that the afore mentioned service manual (hard copy) is a compilation of all Jeep models for that year (1989). My question is does this manual contain everything that was in the original hard copy FSM or is it something different? I ask this because even tho I already have a FSM for an 88 XJ/MJ, some of the wire colors are different on my 89 MJ, therefore I too need to get the new, all-in-one, manual. :dunno: -
$100 = great deal. Welcome to the forum, lots of good stuff here! :chillin:

I am second owner, original owner never touched the suspension (or any other part, aside from routine maint.). Oh, i forgot to mention but it has the good old 35 rear axle! :)

My MJ shackles measure 4 1/4 inches eye to eye, stock.

The hose brings in clean, filtered air (as part of the CCV system) which is then mixed with crankcase vapors (i.e. blowby, fumes) which gets sucked back into the intake manifold (via the small tube at the back of the valve cover). I highly recommend replacing the hose! :)

Sorry to here about your MJ being stolen. Unfortunately, the cops are probably reluctant to look into, which means that if you want it back you will probably need to investigate yourself. I would start with local pawn shops, boneyards, want adds, eBay... :(

Happy b-day GIRsMJ86. I think its Ray Charles and Thomas Jefferson's b-day too :!: .
-
It looks kind of busy to me (with rollbar or topper...). And being that it is lifted (which looks great BTW) its a good compromise realizing that there are a lot of 2WD's out there and stock 4WD's. Just some food for thought  !

Pete, here's my $.02. I like what you did with the tires, as well as the font. The color really gets your attention too. Kinda liked having the fender flares the same color as the body though. All in all a pretty good make over IMO :D !
-
I would definately like one for mine too, but i'm on the other side of the country! Does anyone make an after-market one for a LWB?
-
Very nice. I like the bottom one with the blockier tread. Doesn't take anything away and is not too distracting (IMO) . :-D
-
At least you gave us the year of your MJ :? , now how about giving us a little more info about your Comanche, along with the type of wheeling you intend to do or do you just want a blvd. cruiser? BTW, welcome to the forum.

Yea, check all of your grounds, especially the one between the block and firewall. Make sure your battery is good too (along with the cables) and clean the posts really well. If this doesn't help then the fun really begins :x !
-
What about a color other than white  .
-
Thats what i though too.
-
I like the MJ1986-X idea. Other Jeepers would know what year & model it is. Tough choice!
-
If i remember correctly, the last six numbers (in your case 142735) are the number of vehichles assembled at the plant (Todelo in your case). Obviously, that is not the number of MJ's made for your year. Maybe thats a cummulative number for 86-92 Comanche's produced and/or they produced other vehicles there. This is speculative however without doing further research!

Keep us posted (no pun)! What your doing with the paint thing is pretty unique, top or no top.

A poopload of pictures of how I just got it...
ROADLESS replied to feerocknok's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Even though it needs a lot of work, definately worth $100. As far as having a lot of pics, the more the better (IMO). As far as the good, bad, and ugly goes-well i've seen worse. The good: its a 4WD (many aren't, many convert); it has A/C (may not be working, but all the ductwork is there; has CC (if broken, fixable); has full instrument cluster (many don't and wish they have); aluminum rims (lightweight, look good); factory bed liner (expensive); rock rails (must have for wheeling); no rust (at least i couldn't see any from the bottom); I would think that a thurough pressure washing (to see what your working on and to see oil leaks) along with suggestions from other forum members, and what you'll end up with is a decent MJ saved from going to the boneyard and ultimately crushed. Good luck!
