  1. I've been ignoring mine... there's tape residue over it, so I suspect it's an ongoing "issue" from the PO. From my searches about it, yeah, it looks like you've got to get a scanner to reset it. I'm due for a complete replacement of the exhaust from the manifolds back, so I was going to wait until then to do anything about it. Mostly I'm replying to this topic because I'm also interested in the answers...
  2. Check your fuses. A couple fuses (mostly) fixed my radio's problems, but before I did that, the only time the radio came on was when I hit some bad washboard. As of today, that was the only time I've ever had sound out of my passenger side speakers, so I'm thinking there's some ground/wiring issues there. In my searches, I've seen people have success redoing/improving their dash grounds. I just haven't had the ambition to pull apart my daily driver looking for the problem. Do a search for each fluid. This topic comes up every now and again. Compare your diff covers to this picture. Easiest if you snap a picture. (source) More than likely if they're factory axles, the rear will be the Dana 35, but if you got lucky you'll have the Dana 44. As far as I can tell, the only option for front is the Dana 30. The Chrysler 8.25 replaced the D44 in the XJ, but after the MJ's time. If they're not factory, well, I guess it's more likely you've got the D44 under the back end, but theoretically, you could have anything under there. I'm new to this game, but if someone would like to chime in if I'm wrong, that would be awesome.
  3. Oh good, I wasn't the only one!
  4. You had to go putting up prices, didn't you... up here, a Mobil 1 will run $14-16, depending on where you get it... I don't remember ever paying less than $12 for any filter... $18 for an Amsoil doesn't seem too bad, if it's better than the others...
  5. I used to run Purolators, as advised by my grandfather, but a couple years ago I went to the local farm supply looking for a filter for my dad's van. They only had a Fram and a Mobil 1 that would work, so I paid for the Mobil 1. I got home, pulled it out of the box, and it was sleek, black, and sexy. Still looked that way when I went to change it again, even though it was coated in dirty oil (haven't decided whether that engine leaks or burns more oil...) so that's what I've been running since... Yeah, not the greatest logic for choosing filters...
  6. Really? That's awesome! Thanks! PM will be sent shortly. TBH, I'm not much of a Molson fan. Always preferred a good old Pilsner. But heck, if you're ever in Saskatoon, or somewhere else in Canada I happen to be, there'll be Molson. ;)
  7. Five or six years ago when I was still pumping gas, a guy was showing me the big slip tank he welded up and put in the bed of his Duramax. I think he did something up north, so in the winter he pretty much never shut it off. It had me totally confused because he'd shaved the fuel door... He kept the stock tank, and hooked up the sending unit to run a pump that moved the fuel from the slip into the stock tank when it's level hit around half, and put another sending unit into the slip to use the factory gauge. The filler was right on top, a big four inch steel cap threaded onto a short section of pipe. He also had a heating coil of some kind that he used to to keep the fuel from gelling, but I question the wisdom. I doubt you'd need or want anything that big (took around 800L, and it wasn't empty when I started) but that's the way I'd do it, mount it in the bed, and put the gas right into the tank itself. Working at the only gas station in around 20 miles, I've seen quite a few custom builds that were simply a pain in the @$$ to fill, but this one could take our high-pressure diesel pump at full tilt... if there was any kind of filler neck, the fuel would get choked up and you'd end up covered in diesel, unless you almost trickled the fuel in. The truckers and farmers loved it, but the doctor's wife with her Merc GL? Not so much...

    Tools

I've only got one set of basic tools, and they're stored in my truck to save room in my dorm room. That and I don't really use them for anything else, so it's better to run out to the truck for them instead of not having them if something breaks on the road. Benchmark 80pc socket set, two 9-pc Benchmark wrench sets (SAE and metric) a bunch of MasterCraft screwdrivers that I've had forever, and a few random pairs of pliers and other stuff. Mostly stuff I collected when it was needed, or got for christmas as a kid. Not likely worth more than $150 new. It's all store-brand stuff, but for Canadian stores, so you might not get the brands in the US. Don't know how it compares to Harbour Freight. All kept behind the passenger seat, along with my emergency stuff. The screwdrivers are in a toolbox, the sockets in their carrying case, and the wrenches in their cloth rolls, but otherwise loose.
  9. Well, sorry for making you drag those out of a box, but I've just finished up most of my Christmas shopping and reassessed my financial situation, and it looks like putting any more money into my truck for the next 4-6 months is not going to work out well for my food-on-the-table situation... :( Being a student kinda sucks sometimes.
  10. I only drove into the nearest city (pop ~60k), about 75 miles, took it for a drive, handed over a stack of cash, put my own plates on it, and drove it home. Not much of a trip, tbh. This summer, time and funds willing, I'm thinking of making a 600-1000 mile (one way) trip out west to pick up a much more fuel efficient 4x4 to use as a dd/winter beater. Unless I can find one with a title much closer to home.
  11. Upload to an external site (like Imgur, facebook, flikr, etc) and then use and put the url of the picture itself in the box that pops up.
  12. Seeing all that MJ stuff, I've got to say I'm in AWE. Like, short of breath in awe. And to think that a little over three months ago, before I bought my own Comanche (wow... seems like way longer than three months) I wouldn't have really given a crap... Damn that MJ bug bites hard...
  13. LOL I've wanted to do that so many times, and then thought better of it. Except for once. Where I worked last summer, we had two minivans (a Chevy Venture and a Caravan, both ~12yrs old and really rough) and they got parked one behind the other. Whenever she came in first, one of the girls kept parking far enough out that the one behind it would stick out into the laneway, and people complained. So one day, I pulled in right behind her, and then once everyone was out of the van and clear, I nudged into it and pushed it ahead until it was where it should be. After that, somehow she never parked out that far again... Best I've ever done without nudging is an 85 Chev G20 van in a spot four feet longer than it. Somehow I've never really had to do much parallel parking. Not parallel? There were a couple civics sitting one nose in and the other nose out in a lonely corner of a parcade, with the driver doors facing each other, and almost close enough that most people would find another spot. I felt like being a fool that day for some reason, so I backed into the spot with that van, with about two inches clearance on either side. Had to bail through the back door...
  14. That. But I'll point out that my six month old not so bad phone doesn't have a camera...
  15. Looking at those, do the block off plates just pop off and back on? (where there's a spot in the back plate for a switch, but no switch) If so, I may actually have just "discovered" another solution, but if not, then the one on the bottom right is what I was thinking of. Also, is the black part with the label just a sticker, or something like that? ...Guess I didn't put much thought into this...
  16. Sounds a lot like my Grandpa. Still doesn't quite understand the fallibility of what he sees on TV and the Internet, but he's got so much to teach everyone that I kinda regret growing up 1000 miles away... Sometimes I wish I was born a few decades earlier. My early childhood roadtrips involved me strapped down to my seat as securely and as distant from my siblings as possible...
  17. Well, she likely grew up in an era when "crash safety" meant that the vehicle was so solid the only thing that absorbed any of the impact was your face on the windshield...
  18. Now I'm seeing your picture.
  19. Is there power going to the coil? Figure out where the spark "stops" and go from there. I had an intermittent no-start (more like an intermittent start...) in a GM HEI, threw distributor parts at it for about a year. Every time I tested for voltage somewhere or swapped something out, it would work for a day or two (got three weeks out of pulling the whole thing apart for a new pick-up coil). Once I gave up and threw a new dizzy in, the issue was gone. And I almost immediately discovered where a wire was shorting out against the case of the old one. Whenever I did something, I bumped the wires slightly, disrupting the short until the wire went back to where it wanted to be. A strategically placed one-inch strip of electrical tape would have saved me lots of $$ and grief... Moral of story, check for shorts.
  20. Yeah... I've got some 1/2" deep"carpet saver" floor mats that hold the water. After getting in a few times without kicking my shoes off, it's pretty full. That's a lot of water. I just hope when it disappears from the mats it's evaporating and gone forever... I'm almost scared of what's under the carpets, based on the amount of bondo in the rockers...
  21. And then put the url of the image you want to post in the box. Note, you've got to use pictures that are already on the internet. If you're trying to post photos from your computer, you'll first need to upload them somewhere else. Normally I'd suggest http://imgur.com but for the last couple weeks now they'e been having traffic issues or something, so it might take a couple tries to get onto a page.
  22. I beg to differ. We (or at least I) don't have permission to get onto your server to view your pics. At least all there is on my end is the "posted image" box, and I get a 403 Forbidden when I try the link.
  23. Cool. thanks!
  24. I'm looking for the factory fog lamp switch and the spacer plate that goes around it. Would be shipped to Saskatoon, SK, Canada, S7N 2K7. Let me know what you've got and what you're asking.
