  1. I wonder what the @$$ feature is... You'd think Jeep would expect it to be reliable enough not to need to include a donkey to pull it home... Or maybe it's cause it is in fact as hard working as a donkey?
  2. Then there are those dual-clutch automated manual units or whatever they are that are pretty much useless unless you're racing... my roommate got a 2012 Focus with the dual-clutch... if he's on any kind of slope, the car starts rolling backwards, and there's just about no way to get going forwards without chirping the tires if the hill's steep enough... My Dad taught me to drive a stick ('86 Novarolla) but the car was retired before I was much good at it. And I haven't really had much of a chance with anything else. I'm good enough that I'm one of the few people who didn't stall our FSAE car the first time driving it... I'm thinking of picking up a cheap stick next summer to drive around in, something better on fuel than the MJ.
  3. kinda shocks me that gas would only be 90c/litre there, since that's just under what it is up here... works out to 3.40/gallon.
  4. I dunno. With the attitude of the majority of people outside this club, you'd think it would almost be worthy of a reduction in sentence. Evidence for this is by all the many waaaay nicer MJ's than mine that people keep finding scrapped...
  5. I've had Crappy tire employees tell me (outside of the store) anything with Mastercraft of any age is replaced under warranty, although I suppose since they're all franchise stores, I guess it depends on where you go how things are done? I dunno. My FSAE team, unless they're donated, always gets Mastercraft tools because of the warranty, and the fact that there's a CT right up the street from campus, so it doesn't take very long or really cost anything to replace things if/when they break. And truth be told, we don't break things very often. Also, we've noticed that the Mastercraft tools are less likely to disappear... At any rate, I just dug up the packaging and it says lifetime warranty right on it in two languages.
  6. Limited budget, heheh... Mostly my entire tool kit is stuff I got for Christmas/birthday presents from my parents :dunno: Not really sure why I got it this Christmas... I asked for a jack and jack stands, but got a torque wrench. :???: Can't really complain, I guess...
  7. But the kid behind the computer at the Canadian Tire won't know what's wrong with it ;) If it doesn't work anymore, I'll take it back, and I guess lesson learned however it works out. If it does still work, I'll take better care of it from now on!
  8. Thanks everyone for your input. I was using it because it's the only thing I have that accepts a 1/2 drive socket... I set it pretty high, around 200 lbft and didn't hear it click, but that was the first time I'd used it. It's just a cheap Mastercraft wrench, regular price around $100. If I do break it, their warranty is the no-questions-asked lifetime type, so i wasn't too worried. In future, maybe I will be. I was just pulling an axle shaft out of a garbage hub that was cut out from under a ZJ. When I couldn't budge it I put a torch on the nut, and it pulled pretty easy. I'm thinking I should borrow a breaker and cheater for attacking the nut on my own axle, though.
  9. Since I'm a little new to using a torque wrench, I was looking up how to's, just to make sure I was doing it right. In just about every one, someone says "don't use it in reverse" and/or "don't use it for disassembly". My question is, why not? The manufacturer for mine put the reverse onto it, and then gave accuracy ratings for both forward and reverse. The accuracy is higher in the forward (clockwise) position, but not by all that much. Is there some grounds to not using it to turn things counter-clockwise? Google's not helping...
  10. The 2.5L's the only gas 4-banger to come from the factory. Can't guarantee that's what's in it without pics, though. A diesel I4 was also an option.
  11. If he can't drive at all, it might be better for him to learn on a stick. Maybe more stressful for the vehicle, but it's much easier learning to do both at the same time than it is to adapt your driving to match a stick (imo), and he'll learn a lot more about car control. Plus there's just the cool factor. When he's old enough to drive, very few of his friends will be driving stick.
  12. lol :yeah that:
  13. I'd also point out that Rover's first (and pretty well only) V8 was an engine that Buick built for a couple years in the early 60's and quit using because of low reliability and high cost. To the few of you who watch Top Gear, sound anything like a Range Rover? heheh...
  14. Can't speak for your truck, but usually where the clutch engages/disengages in the pedal travel is adjustable, at least somewhat. I've only got six months experience with Jeeps and mine's an auto, so can't help you there.
  15. Yeah... There's one I've spotted driving a couple times here in Stoon (tried flagging him down, he just looked at me like I was crazy) and a buddy says he keeps seeing another going past his house that isn't any of the ones I've seen/know of. I've had to quit looking at the ads because it makes me sad I can't adopt them all, but I've been tempted to reply to some of them with just the Comanche Club url. It just feels too much like spamming.
  16. If you've got a 4.0, then you've got fuel injection. Why are you looking for a non fi tank, or are you?
  17. Think I might have seen that place on American Gun? Looks really familiar...
  18. Oh, yeah, the over the counter ones aren't worth much... One of Motor Trend's Roadkill vids on youtube had a car they were planning on taking from the sourth west to Alaska... figured they needed a block heater, so they got a cheapy. And then went through at least three of them. And they didn't get anywhere close to Alaska. (Maybe CO?) But since his is a Canadian model, I'd assume it's got a stocker on it.
  19. Camera man knows that was his ride out...
  20. Sorry, what? A properly fitting block heater will seal just as well as a freeze plug. If it's not leaking, it's best to leave it alone. Do you know how many 30+ year old cars there are up here running around with an original factory block heater? I can't quote exact figures, but it's going to be a huge majority...
  21. Two feet's a little much for my mj. Maybe when it's still fresh, but after it's sat for a few weeks and the sun fused the top of into a crust that supports your underpan and leaves your wheels dangling in the powder underneath? yeah, about that...

    Mj Smiley

Mind if I steal some of them? This one in particular:
  23. Yeah, I know... I get a little perplexed sometimes. It'd be nice if things shut down here because of snow... eight inches overnight and the next morning it's still business as usual. And most residential streets around here don't always get plowed... I've carved chunks out of the snowpack with my pumpkin a couple times falling into ruts...

    New Flashlight

Looks like a solid little unit. My phone gets decently warm when I leave the LED flashlight on for a while, I can imagine what the same bulb inside a tube would do. Just out of curiosity, how is gas not fun?
