Electrical bugs aren't that bad. Something doesn't work either means that thing is broken or else it's not getting power. They can be really irritating sometimes, but in my opinion with patience they're not really that bad.
-
Maybe because the only people I see riding around here are broke-@$$ students... Never seen one quite like that. Definitely no hand-warmers, although I can really see them being useful. Otherwise, fat tires on a regular bike? Do BMX's count?

WD TDI's ten years old are going for $1500 to $2500 at salvage auctions around here. Older non-turbo VW's I've seen go for under $500. You'd still need a trans/tc if the xj doesn't have, but then you've got the rest of the car to part out or scrap or whatever. Just a suggestion if you're seriously thinking about it.

Well, don't really have a back yard per se (live in an apartment building) but it depends where you measure it and where the wind puts it. I'd say pretty near three feet on average, but there are some natural drifts easily six feet deep if not more. With the light fluffy snow we got (and are still getting...) I was pushing through natural drifts in my parking lot deeper than my hood when I was left this morning. It was either make passable the laneway that was reduced to four feet wide, or not get out. Hope anyone who followed me through appreciated the extra couple feet I made for them...

Never really left... we had a couple days barely above freezing a few weeks ago, but that's the closest we've seen to spring.
-
Ah spring... we've had another four inches of snow over the last couple days, and -15°F windchill this morning. Could be worse!

Saw a sexy black Eliminator with soa and then some lift with a roll bar (looked stock) a couple weeks ago. I was with a couple guys in a craptastic Civic and he blew past us on the right going down an exit ramp. Going off Circle Drive south onto Warman Road here in S'toon. The guy driving wanted to chase it down, but there was really no way... next exit's a mile or so on the other side of the river ;(

Funny you should mention the sun... my face is peeling from sunburn on that day...

Tailgate comment was in response to "are missing tailgates common?", and I didn't really check for context on that one... or look back up at your pictures to see that it was still there, just assumed yours didn't have one. They're not likely to go missing, or anything. It's just that it's not always easy to find one as mint as yours. Usually they're pretty dinged up from normal use, or the handle doesn't work quit right, or something. Yeah, he was just drooling over how nice your tailgate is. Don't know that having a ram bar will help you much with avoiding accidents... and the back end is the part that you want to protect. Them rear bumpers are hard to come by in decent shape, and NOS tail lights can go for mid-three digits... But at any rate, everything in front of the doors is identical to what's on the XJ Cherokee, so you might have better luck looking there.

Ayy, wha'chu sayin 'bout college students? Missing tailgate means missing tailgate. They're intended for easy removal (no bolts, just unhooking the straps and lifting it out) so likely it means someone just didn't bother putting it back... or it got stolen... tailgates are about as easy to come by as everything else that is MJ-specific that no one makes any more.

I've found that those really thin gloves they sell for mechanics work fairly well even in the cold. It's just enough to keep your hands off the freezing tools. It is a pain in the @$$ though if one of them gets wet, because then you can't let go of the tool... or whatever other cold thing you grabbed... What I really dislike is rolling around under the truck in snow. Packed snow, not so bad, but if there's a couple inches or more of loose or fluffy stuff, it just gets miserable.

Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. About 200 miles north of the Canadian/US border, and pretty well straight north from Casper, Wyoming. Lake in question is Blackstrap Reservoir. So not technically a lake... Just about anywhere on the Canadian prairies (and honestly the northern states adjacent) is like this still. Can't really speak for the rest of the country, but my guess is it'll still look pretty similar until April. After pushing through the snow we still keep getting on my walk to class, it's starting to get a little old... we've had snow on the ground since October... It's about 15F here right now.

Usually I like all of winter. Snow, ice, cold, etc. But now I'm seeing people starting to talk about spring... It's starting to get me down... To put it into context, I took this picture last weekend. And yes, those are ice fishing shacks on a lake.

Love it when things work out like that. Although part of me wants you to keep at it until it's fixed because despite everything I've read about it, very few people have actually got it fixed and I want to know how/what did it!
-
Could be, but I'm going to say that if the security light's on, 9/10 times that's going to be the security system preventing the starting.

I'd try to get the BCM out of the same car you got the cylinder from. Likely won't matter, but you never know. AFAIK the resistor thing only works if you can measure the proper resistance of the original and then replicate it, but I don't know that you can get the resistance if the unit's not working properly. In addition to that bypass kit I mentioned above, I've also heard that most aftermarket command start systems have a bypass built in. But again, that might only be for the Passlock II, or whatever it is.

Back in highschool we filmed an "action" scene where a guy did the hood slide as part of the video we did for the Christmas concert. As we were previewing the finished film in class, he stood up and shouted "that's how I got the dent in my hood!" Moral of the story: 4ycl Dodge Spirits are not intended for action sequences....

He's talking about the Central Axle Disconnect (CAD). You've got a two-piece axle on the passenger side, and the CAD is basically a collar that slides over to connect the two sections when you shift into 4x4, and slides back, disconnecting them when you go back to 4x2. Because it's vacuum operated, it's not difficult for it to fail. You can fix it properly, or you can pull the motor off, slide the collar over, and then put the motor back in upside down, which locks the two axle sections together. This will in no way affect 2wd performance, since the front driveshaft is disconnected at the transfer case in 2wd.

Standard tank size for the long bed is 23.5 gallons. That being said, after running my long bed right down to empty, I once put 26 gallons into it...
-
How "ginormous" is the tank? As far as I know, the long beds aren't all that rare (at least among MJ's) and I think the there were only two tank options, one for short beds and a bigger one for long beds (but I could be wrong). What is somewhat rare among MJ's is the Metric Ton. You get a very coveted factory Dana 44 under the rear end and heavier springs. Good for a 2200lb payload, or one metric ton. Decent looking truck and not a bad price either. A steal compared to what I foolishly paid for mine. Good that you only are $200 up on it. I've spent over $1500 on mine in the last six months... Most of that's in snow tires, though.

Also, this guy http://newrockies.com/ sells a kit that apparently bypasses everything. Costs $180 though. Several years ago he was also selling instructions to build your own kit for significantly less, but I don't know that he is anymore.

Relearning a new ignition cylinder is different from the basic key relearning for whatever reason. Turn key to "on", and the security light will turn on solid. Leave the key "on" for the ten minutes, then turn it off and on again. The security light should come back on again. Wait the ten minutes until it shuts off. Turn key off and on again, leave it on again for the ten minutes until it goes off (you've now done this three times). Then turn it off and try starting it. It *should* at this point have learned the new cylinder. There may be issues with using a cylinder from a different car, but I don't know. Of course GM recommends buying brand new parts. If this doesn't work, then the body control module may be bad, which is very pricey to replace. If you take this issue to a dealer, you'll likely get quoted over a grand to replace the whole system. Also worth mentioning, although I don't know if it applies to your generation of passlock or just the next one newer, but people have had success simply cleaning the contacts in the cylinder. Just a bit of a disclaimer, all I know about passlock it what I've learned when researching for my parents' car which had passlock do it's thing every now and again. There were a bunch of things I wanted to try, but my parents were satisfied with walking away for twenty minutes whenever it happened, after which point it usually started up. so I never actually did anything with it.

Electric Powered Comanche?
gogmorgo replied to snakedoc67's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
There was another thread about this... Someone was talking about getting a shop to convert a street Comanche. Edit:: found it. http://comancheclub.com/topic/37327-looking-into-going-ev-with-sc-red-october/
