http://madxj.com/MADXJ/technical/techni ... ersion.htm that's about adapting a newer style to the older block, so it doesn't really apply, but a lot of good information about removing it and reinstalling it. Hell, might as well upgrade it while you're in there.

see here, it was accurate for my 87, I had the same mess you do. http://snowboard247.blogspot.com/

pete touched on the most critical part, the main bearing caps MUST go back exactly as they came off. I took a center punch, and marked them at the top, 1 mark on the left, 2 on the right, and matching marks on the housing.

changes the shift behavior of the AW4 trans. most leave it in power for firmer shifts.

I'll give you $50 plus the cost if you make me one. :D I've got one sitting in the driveway. need's a littl mud work, since it's got some shop rash since I took it off.

5spd to AW4 shifting ideas
87manche replied to Oizarod115's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I had contemplated the same thing, in fact I still have the aw4 and 242 in the garage for it. My plans, since I already have buckets and a full console, included making a box to fit where the worthless cup holder was installed, and installing the joystick right there, where the ebrake would be on a cherokee. Easy to access while driving on or offroad, and it would keep all of the wire harness out of the dash, save for a gear indicator of some sort that I'd like to have. -

head over to naxja, and do a search under brianho13 username for the box4rocks. He went with a 231 and a flipped 300, twinsticked. It's pretty cool, and he's got stupid low gearing now. -
I think the key to longevity is wheeling smart. Full throttle attack will kill any axle. my d35 keepd me worried, but I've not broken it yet with the 34's. Of course, I dislike the throttle, and the midwest is mostly mud. I certainly wouldn't run rock with it, and that's the reason it will be replaced with an 8.8. Anything can be made to work, you just have to know your vehicles mechanical limitations.

the easiest way to make this determination is to look for the ECU. Chryco ECU's were under the hood, renix ECU's are under the dash, drivers side, right above the accelerator, big silver looking metal box.

I liked how they boxed in the knuckle.

the key is just to displace all of the water, most lubricants won't really freeze solid, they just gum up a little. I hose mine down liberally with wd40, then grease them. WD40 sucks as a lubricant, but it does displace water.
-
mine were frozen this morning, as someone that's delt with it before, go and get the door lock thaw stuff from the hardware store, it will clean all of the gunk out of it. Then I usually just use wd-40, as it displaces the water. The cause is usually the wipe at the window, mine's gone on the dirvers side, so rain get's down onto the lock.

the only other thing that was good abot the CAD was IF you hosed your frton DS or somethig in the pumpkin you could disengage it.

mild lift (1.5-2") How?

skyjacker makes a 3" long aal. -
makes it just like the new ones. I replaced my disco axle with a non-disco, and it didn't seem to make a difference, can't even tell.

any chance of straightening your current d30? was it disconnect or solid? might want to consider a truss. 36's is pretty big for a d30, but there's not a lot out there in 5x4.5 that can handle 36's.
-
not sure how long mine are, bt I bet they're 6". They were a 2" chebby shackle, and gave me about an inch of lift. Hell, the ride got better with the longer shackles, but that's likely because the bushings were shot on my factory ones.

the tail lights on the Mj work differently. The XJ used seperate stop/turn lamps, MJ's use both bulbs on each side for stop/turn/tail. Do you still have the MJ taillights and the sockets? You'll need to wire the tail/stop/turn wires to the corresponding wires in the sockets. I know that dark blue is tail, and I'm pretty sure brown is stop/turn.

that's kejtars writeup, he showed using the top nut to mount the 97 striker.

fuel pump ballast resistor. you can jumper from one side of it to the other to make the truck run, the pump will ust be a bit louder.

Stupid ? - How do I get the spare tire down?
87manche replied to ChiefJosh's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
my 31 was never an issue, it was under there for a year, I even dragged to tire on some rocks during an impromtu offroad trip. -

that's what I'm running right now. They look nice, perform freaking awesome off road, but yes, they're bias ply TSLs, and that's about all you need to know for how well they drive on pavement. Here's my junk with those tires on rockkrawlers w/3.75" BS
