  1. I have often thought outside the box, but NEVER thought of using steering parts for suspension components. I have a few questions about your design, cause in theory it might work. How do you plan on mounting it to the axle... I mean how thick of material are you going to use? In what plane are you going to put the rotation of the joint? I think the axle will have to much twist, how ever you mount it. What I mean is... tirerods can flex in several planes at one time thus causing possible problems with caster, and pinion angle. Also with the bolt being tapered how are you going to seat it so it is tight and stays that way?
  2. Good enough might not do it... I tried to build Pong to survive a mutiple roll, and be able to wheel after. The next phase of my build up is going to add more triangulation, and remove more of the factory stuff. I am even considring building an interior cage so i can have a drivers "capsule" to survive the catastrophic roll... you know the mutiple endo and barrel roll combo  As far as your design goes... There are programs out there that can simulate forces and it can give you an idea on what can happen.
  3. how about you ask this question over on Pirate and see what they say :D Mine is flat black with a touch of rust

The way he di his front is what pong is going to look similar too
  5. @" drop shackles will give you a 2" lift. They will also change your pinion angle and move the front edge of your tire dangerously close to the front of your wheel opening especially if it is uncut. His prices seem high to me for what they are
  6. whats he want for the Mogs... I havent started building my links yet... they would be just bad @$$
  7. I had no issues with mine.... Just use Red lock tight and call it good. There is a company on ebay.. i think it is trail sport.. or soemthing like that that sells the same spacers for like 75 bucks
  8. We used 2x.250 wall for my rock rails, and we did not plate the frame. we used 4 mounting plates per side to mount the rails. The reason why we didnt do anything else upfront cause the phase 3 of the build up was to narrow the front... which is going to happen on this build. Up front the bumper is used to mount and stiffen it up. If you look at some of the other build pics you will see how we triagulated the main hoop to give it added strength. I used about 200' of tubing to build my exo and rear half. I know that sounds like a lot, but keep in mind that yo have some cut loss on the end of bends. I know a couple of ppl who have built complete buggies with that much tube, plus some 2x4x.250. Would I change anything.. Of course... I would have linked the rear last yr. I would have made the door bars not as tall in the door way to help with getting in and out. It is really going to be a PITA once Pong is sitting on 42's to get in and out. Things to consider.... Type of tubing you will use, and the size. Find out if windshield bars are legal... they are not In VA, but I thought they were needed for rollover protection. Also the type of suspension. I really wish I would have done it right last yr... Now I am having to change or re-do alot of work.

yeah they are not exactly cheap. replacement tips are like 7-10 bucks a piece
  11. Got something today for Pong It looks like it is going to be a tight fit upfront unless I ditch all sheetmetal  I guess I wil still have a comanche VIN plate :hmm:

somewhere around 1200 give or take
  13. Just skip it.. if you are going to spend that Kinda coin.. just buy a d60 and narrow it.
  14. I personally looked into the pitbull tires, and I was tempted to get them except they are WIDE, and look like ballons on rigs.... it might just be my perception though. Also they don't come in the size I wanted

Tires arrive tommorow... waitng on brackets and ends from ballastic fab, then it is a matter of ordering my tubing and wrenching. Yes that was a cold trip... That was the only real snow we got last yr... and I camped  it snowed like 10+" and never got above 32* for both days

Ijust bought me a fancy dancy new to me shop tool :D I bought me a Lincoln Pro cut 25 Plasma cutter :clapping: It is used but at less then 50 % of a new ones price.. I can't complain :wrench: Just thought I would share.... I guess my coil overs can wait another week
  19. Hugging tree is cool if you are an enviromentalist :nanner: It all boils down to what and where you wheel. If you do a lot of trail riding... narrow is ideal, and so is a shorter whel base :brows: but if you rock rawl and have larger tires it is all about stance and being stable, so being wide is your friend

Cole the only thing you had to do was click on one of the links in my sig to find some pics of my rig
  21. nice start..... build a truggy
  22. For 31's no lift is needed in the rear. No the main leaf from an XJ will not net you any lift. If you want to do something like that you need to use a spring from a vehicle that came Spring under. Such as a S-10 or dodge Dakota. Those are the one that are most commonly used
  23. What are you talking about.... what axle? I am kinda lost. That is almost fullwidth... or is that the total width of your axle outside to outside?
  24. I have seen a few wranglers running the pizza cutter TSl's (34x9.5) on stock steelies, and they seem to do really good if you like a narrow tire. Of course the 2 ppl I know who run them trailer their rig to the trail, and don't run them on the street. Screw just spend the coin and buy some IROKS :D
