  1. You didn't specify if you had a manual or automatic. It would be helpful if you'd put the basic info of your rig in your signature.
  2. The surface between the trans and t-case doesn't use a gasket because there should be no fluid in there. If there is, you've got a leak on the trans output shaft seal or the t-case input shaft seal. If it's still coming from higher up, you might try the T-case breather.

At least you can spell it.

  5. Yup, identical. Only change was in 87.
  6. Uh, did you fill the converter before you put it on?
  7. Was the converter ever off the trans?
  8. If you have a Comanche, you do not have a full-time option unless a previous owner has changed the transfer case. DO NOT drive it in 4WD on dry pavement. 86 had a full-time option with the 228/229.
  9. I'm 6'1", and have the curved brackets in one of my MJs. If I'm first in line at a stop light, I have to lean forward to see the light. :headpop:
  10. Most of us have paid less than that for actual Comanches...
  11. Wouldn't know. Living in an apartment, making practically nothing, haven't touched the MJs in years. I'm actually trying to get rid of them, because where they're sitting needs them gone, and I'm sick of them... sitting.
  12. If the voltage readings at the TPS are fine, I would tackle a probably-sticking IAC. On a side not - is your SN your real name, or are you just a huge fan of Monsters, Inc?
  13. Oh, it is. I see now we're talking about two completely different things. You're talking about the trans preventing you from putting it into 5th when there is no 5th. I'm talking about the safety feature that prevents accidental shifting from 5th into "6th" on an AX-5.
  14. Nope, it's actually a small clip and spring just inside the hole where the shifter bolts to. It's set up so the only way to go into reverse is by going to the right, and down. When you go to the right, and up, it pops the clip back up, so you have to bring the shifter back to the middle before going into reverse.
  15. The AX-15 will only bolt to the 2.5 with a fairly rare early 90s Dakota bellhousing.
  16. I believe the first year for the 231 was 87. Also, plenty of 4wd AX-4s out there.
  17. You have an AX-4. 100% interchangeable with an AX-5. Same transmission, just the AX-4 doesn't have the internals for the 5th gear. No transfercase will bolt up to your 2wd transmission. You need a 4wd trans. Probably easiest to snag a AX-4(5)/T-case combo from a 2.5 XJ/MJ/YJ.
  18. Nope, midplates are all the same. The clocking difference is where the 6 holes are drilled in the round flange on the very back for mounting the T-case.
  19. Depending on his level of ambition, it wouldn't be hard to swap his current AX-4 rear case onto the AX-5. I believe the only difference in the AX-4/5 rear case is the clip/spring combo in the AX-5 to prevent going into reverse from 5th, but that should move over just fine.
  20. Ah, I was assuming you either had a toasted AX-5 sitting around, or a 2wd AX-5 or something. Yeah, it's not something worth part hunting for. You're better off finding an AX-5 to throw in and keeping the AX-4 around as a spare.
  21. Yes you can, I've done it. What do you have at your disposal?
  22. I know nothing about the 4.2's pilot bearings. You may want to head over to the stroker forum for this.
  23. Go to your post, on the right side of the box should be two small buttons, one to report and one to delete.
  24. Just an FYI, the Renix system does not have a clutch safety switch. IIRC that wasn't a feature until 96 or 97.
  25. I've removed the bumper, and bolted a tow bar to it using plates that utilize ALL 6 of the bumper bracket bolts. If you just use the front 4, you can easily bend/crack the tabs. As for lights, I bought myself a set of trailer lights, bolted them to a set of magnets and/or clamps. Then I wired it up, wrapped the wires in electrical tape to make it be one cord up to the plug, and it's worked for me so far. Just make sure you either remove the rear driveshaft and cap the end of the trans/t-case, or leave the shaft in the trans, and securely tie it up under the bed.
