  1. ....what?? The HOs have a CPS, it's just a different sensor. Mounted in the same spot. An Electronic ignition system cannot function without a CPS, as there's no points in the dizzy. For some reason 91 has its own. The sensor itself is the same as the 92-96?, but the plug is 91 specific. For the record, changing a CPS on a 2.5 is ridiculously easy.
  2. Don't carry a spare alternator and idler pulley? :rotf: you should know that answer. ...yes?
  3. Don't carry a spare alternator and idler pulley? :rotf:
  4. Main bearing cap torque spec is 50, then 70, then 80. Do all to 50, then all to 70, then all to 80.
  5. No reason you can't use a full console though, and just put either a plate or a bucket where the shifter would go.
  6. Very very very very very few XJs came out of the factory with a front bench seat, I imagine those are the only ones that might have a foot pedal for an ebrake.
  7. AX-15 has aluminum, AX-4/5 is steel.
  8. The Pukey can last awhile if you're nice to it, but it also... well, might not. The only issues I ever had with one was popping out of first if you didn't lay on the shifter. I abused that trans, and it never exploded, but that's not saying it wasn't about to. Could it take abuse? Yes. Could it last 500k? Sure. Is it a good idea to think it will? No. It's ok now, but don't trust it.
  9. Transmission swap should be pretty straightforward. What year is it out of? They're all identical, except for bellhousing and bearing retainer plates. If the rebuilt unit was set up for an internal slave cylinder, you'll need to swap the bearing retainer off your old trans onto it, and obviously the bellhousing(rebuilt unit probably won't have one anyway) Do you know how to test your clutch to make sure everything's correct before you install your trans? Might as well since you can. Internal slaves can't do that. If your truck's been sitting that long, it'll probably need the gas drained out and new stuff put in.
  10. Do what mvusse suggested, and see how much slip you have. If it's the original driveshaft from before the lift was put on, then you shouldn't need a new shaft.
  11. A bad CPS cannot cause a no crank situation. Pull the starter. Take it into an O'reillys or any other parts store that tests them. It's free. Earlier this year I did a motor swap on my brother's XJ. He's had that truck for 5 years. Not once did he have a starting problem. Once the motor swap was done, it wouldn't start. Took the starter into O'reillys, it was shot. Could barely turn itself over. Put a reman starter in, and she turned right over.
  12. I'm a little lost here. The cap screws have to be in the same place on every cap. An aftermarket company can't just decide to move the terminals. There's a timing mark on the harmonic balancer, and it lines up with marks on a tab on the timing cover. This may not be entirely accurate, however, since it is possible for the outer piece of the balancer to turn on the rubber isolator, causing the mark to be off. Just an FYI. Also, the dist is run off the cam, not the crank. I'm sure that's what you meant.
  13. Where are you located? Maybe we can help you find one.
  14. :agree: Dunno why I didn't think of it, but you said you put the dizzy in at #1 TDC. Are you sure you got it on the correct stroke?
  15. For the headache from the acetone?
  16. My bet's on the dizzy being off. Another possibility is spark plug wires are in the wrong place. I had accidentally once(non-marked cap, and my brother told me over the phone where his were), had the plug wires rotated one terminal. It would crank for a few seconds, then the ECU would cut power to the starter cause it knew something was very, very wrong.
  17. What are you waiting for? Let's see'm!
  18. What's a Commanche? :hmm: :rotf:
  19. Not a big deal with an automatic, you can fish it right out with the inspection cover off. With a 5 speed... yeah, you might get lucky, if you bend the plate out of the way.
  20. Very popular motor in the Commanche.
  21. I've replaced it on a 4.0 4wd without dropping the trans.
  22. I'll be bringing a spare 2wd shaft I have down next week if you can wait until then. Adur... of course you can wait. I still have your axle :D
  23. No, you should be able to get at it. It's just... not fun. Dropping the trans would make it easier.
