I have a trail master 3" lift installed in 1987. rear sits a bit high and always has. I just got a set of acos. If I were to get rusty's 4.5 soa. would I need additional parts for the front to accomidate the lift combo.

I was thinking it used stock hiegth rear springs. Let me rephrase that so it makes sence. If I got a 4.5 for the front and used the acos to level the front would I have trouble with the additional lift due to the acos.

I was figuring on doing the same thing (the ACOS) if my 4.5" RE springs in the front don't end up level with the SOA in the rear. My leafs are pretty flat, so I hope to be fine. But will toss in a pair of ACOS to level things out if need be.

 

Keep in mind though that the ACOS lift it a minimum of 1.75" on top of whatever the coils do.

Once you get above 3" you will need to consider other parts. Things like an adjustable track bar and longer lca's at a minimum will be necessary. It will be near impossible to properly align with the stock parts.

I just SOA'd mine with a rebuilt set of 4WD leafpacks (mine was a 2WD originally, so the 4WD packs netted an inch by themselves). Ended up at almost 5.5-6" in the rear with a set of new Mopar spring pads. I used ZJ coils up front plus a set of ACOS thinking that would match the rear, but it didn't....had a good 1" rake, and that was with the ACOS fully extended which I was not comfortable with. Ended up pulling the ZJ coils back out and installing a set of 5.5 TJ coils....left the ACOS in but removed the adjustable disc and used the factory isolators on top. In hindsight, I could have left the disc in but just spun the whole way up, acting like a 1/2" spacer of sorts, and it woulda worked out fine. I ended up with about a 3/4" rake which doesn't look dumb (IMHO) and is all good because I still use my MJ from time to time as a pickup truck, and with a load in the bed it levels out nicely.

 

As far as +3" in the front, you need to start looking at adjustable control arms to set pinion angle, and a longer trackbar (adjustable), longer swaybar links, brakelines, etc......

I have the Rusty's 4.5" with ACOS(used to level it out as well)

I found out real quick you need adj control arms to properly locate the front axle & maintain castor angle. I went with R.E arms & they are stretched to the MAX. It looks great but rides rough due to the extreme angle of the arms.

I actually had to clearance the lower shock mounting plates to avoid contact with the arms during droop. Rusty's adj arms have a nice bend that adds a bunch of clearance if you choose to go that route. I need to look into drop brackets since mine is a 2by that only gets road driven.

 

Long story short, I'd keep the 3" coils if you want to run the ACOS. Either way, don't forget about longer shocks, brake lines, adjustable track bar....

I'm trying to fig out my game plan for the rebuild. I think I'm going to keep it simple. Reuse the susp I have and add the acos to level it out. If it was easy to get more lift I would. plus after all is said I can add the lift later. Its looking like I'm going with fiber glass 3" baja bed sides and fenders so more lift won't be needed.

I've had the acos for 3 months. My house cought fire just before halloween. we got back into the house a couple weeks ago. haven't had time to install them yet. my garage is full of stuff that was damaged in the fire and was told not to throw anything away untill the insurance is settled. I have to replace the head gasket in my blazer, so I can park the jeep. which is being held up because of the garage . I'm going to start my project thread sunday with my plans for the rebuild and pics

I just today got a set of BDS 4.5" coils to replace mine with a too light spring rate. Thanks for posting the pic!!!

I'm thinking about a set of XJ shackles for mine as well, just to level it a touch more.

Shorter shackles can limit your suspension travel. Just an FYI. :D

i was worried about that but am not having any issues with my shackles, i even took a video i was showing another site when i was building to see if it would be an issue, this is my truck soa no shocks with me jumping on it to see it travel. at full stuff the spring is pretty much flat and the shackle just starts to limit travel

i'm not worried about it, if i put a longer shackle on to make it more vertical i will be way to high, i am not a fan of anything over 5 cause imo it's really not needed and you end up being more tipsy.

isnt the shackle sosposed to be 90 with the ground when no extra weight is added?

 

If you want it to ride like crap you do.

 

His angle is about perfect. I wonder wow far forward it goes at full droop.

 

I run a lift shackle with the body mounting hole forward. I have 12" of travel no problem. If I had a short shackle or it was at 90 degrees it would limit my droop.

 

Here is my shackle at rest. As you can see my springs are quite arched and provide about 3" of lift. They are Stanley replacement springs.
