ghetdjc320 Posted May 30 Posted May 30 Anyone ever heard of this company? Supposedly upgraded internals but not very specific. Timken appears to be all outsourced now. SKF has been my go to but I’d be all for a truly upgraded unit if there is such a thing
89 MJ Posted May 30 Posted May 30 I’ve heard that Timken is now moving production back to the US. Not sure if this is true or where in that transition they are though. Never heard of this Axiom company.
Eagle_SX4 Posted May 30 Posted May 30 I ordered SKF bearings to rebuild the hubs in my Eagle. I opened the box and was surprised to see Timken bearings inside.
AZJeff Posted May 31 Posted May 31 There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with a Timken bearing made in a facility other than the USA. Timken has had production operations in multiple countries outside the US, and they all build products to the same standard for that particular bearing. Any claims of evidence that Timken parts made in “country X” that is not the USA is strictly anecdotal, with no statistical backing to such claims.
ghetdjc320 Posted May 31 Author Posted May 31 I think we all know that there are only a handful of manufacturers and I’m not saying that a quality product cannot be had from China as we all know it can. However, back to the original question, any info on Axiom? @golddigger, any information or experience with them? As for timken or SKF, they still are oe design. The question is whether there is a truly superior engineered product available (which Axiom claims to be). Something that can stand up to heavier tires and less wheel offset which tends to kill oe style units. I’ve bought many a Timken bearing over the years but the last two sets I purchased did not last at all and started to become noisy within a few thousand miles. One on my MJ with 33’s and one set on my TJ with 30” tires. Keep in mind that I run the 99.5+ style unit bearings for the slightly different offset and longer lug studs. In the TJ world, these are the Timken units that seem to be having higher than anecdotal failure rates recently, and the timing is suspiciously close to when production moved. Of course, there also appear to be counterfeit Timkens floating around. I haven’t had any premature failures with SKF so far. But again, the question here is Axiom
75sv1 Posted June 2 Posted June 2 I did have an issue with an SKF unit bearing. I thought it was the Shaefler unit. The tire puckered a bit. Both were purchased from NAPA.

PIKE Posted Monday at 12:28 PM Posted Monday at 12:28 PM I hope its ok to do this. I have a SKF unit bearing that fits a 1989 Comanche for sale on ebay for $20.00 starting bid plus shipping. It is brand new never used. SKF has had problems with counterfeiters. I know this is the real deal because I purchased it directly from SKF. When I received the hub it had a minor flaw and they sent me a new one. I think it would work perfectly fine and you might even be able to fix it. https://www.ebay.com/itm/327214584581
