Its a technics sl 1500.

By appearances it looks to be the Mk1.  I would start by re-cleaning the speed pots.  From what I can gather they seem to need it periodically.  Beyond that it could be an issue with the servo control motor or connections.  Looks like a nice TT.

Great Topic! I have been listening to vinyl since the 1960's. My system is closer to the bottom of the line--Audio Technica AT-PL120 with an improved cartridge, Pioneer amp, and 5 KEF slim wall speakers (though sometimes I use a very old pair of Sony studio headphones). On the positive side, my hearing is a bit off, I have a decent supply of Scotch, about 50 tobacco pipes, and a few hundred albums, so it all works out fine. My collection is eclectic--from most of the stuff I listened to in the 60's, a lot of classic country and folk, some musicals, blues, jazz and a bit of everything else. This year I have been mostly playing classic country--Patsy Cline, Ray Price, George Jones, Faron Young, Eddy Arnold,Loretta Lynn.... Anyway, I enjoyed reading this topic a lot.

my vinyl collection is... extensive.  hundreds of albums.  mostly classical.  I've purchased very few myself.  some was inheritance (a lot of my childhood was spent listening to them at my grandparents house), some was rescued from the literal trash (can't bear to see them in a landfill!).  problem is my turntable died long ago.   but they are all stored inside the house, so they will be there when I eventually get the means to play them.

Don't wait too long. Facebook marketplace or spring yard sales commonly offer an acceptable amp, turntable and speakers for under a $100.  If the turntable cartridge is fine, and the records are cleaned, it will sound fine enough.
