hgeranium
For any of those that daily drive an MJ/XJ, any specific brands of shocks that you'd recommend when prioritizing comfort/ride quality? I'd be willing to splurge on higher quality brand. I'd get Bilsteins but as far as I can tell, they don't make a set for stock ride height MJs. Are monotubes even worth paying extra for if I'm just looking for on-road quality?
Eagle_SX4
For stock ride height I would run the KYB gas-a-just monotubes. They are a great shock that rides very well. I have them on my Eagle and had them on my old Jaguar. They are about $40 each on Rockauto.

Thanks.
89 MJ
I also like KYBs. I also like Monroe’s, but don’t get the cheapest ones.
watchamakalit
I chose Bilstein for mine. Not stock height although until recently it was my daily

75sv1
I had the KYB silver ones made in Japan on the front of an XJ. I like them. I use the KYB monomax on my 2" lifted XJ. I like them, but they are firm. Not quite as firm as the Bilstien 1500s.
pizzaman09
I have KYB on the back of my MJ, they are great. I put Rancho shocks in the front and I'm disappointed in how stiff they are. I have a dream of splurging on some shocks from FOX some day.
75sv1
I had Rancho 200s they were too soft. The Ranchos have different levels. I do have some of the 9000RS Adjustable on my XJ. I like them at mid adjustment. I had some white box ones from Iron Rock Outfitters on the front. Soft too.

I was mostly considering between that and the KYBs originally but I definitely don't need a stiffer ride than I already have
pizzaman09
I have Rancho RS5000 shocks on the front of mine. They are just more stiff than I desired.

75sv1
I like to run a bit stiffer shock on the front and then 'tune' the rear shocks. The ability to tune the rear helped with the KYB MonoMax shocks. I used this on a MB 240D. Bilstein Sports in the front and Bilstein Comforts in the rear. Sort of counters the heavy engine, yet leaves the rear a bit softer.
