Rough country steering stabilizer.

Hey everyone, 

I have a 1990 eliminator, in line 6, RWD. 5 speed manual, mostly stock except has a massive  k&n air filter and has cherry bomb exhaust. When I say this truck is in rough shape I mean rough shape lol its a complete rebuild. I just got my new rough country N3 steering stabilizer,has anyone used one before what are their thoughts?

Is this truck an off road toy or will it spend time on the road?

 

I would just run a Monroe or KYB steering stabilizer. That said, you’ve already got it. If you can’t return it, you might as well run it. 
Is the N3 stuff their higher end parts or is that regular stuff? If it’s a higher quality part, it might be worth a shot.

It's a daily driver but where I live in canada the roads are garbage all year and our winters are terrible with a ton of snow so I want the best handling I can get. Most of the steering parts I've put on are moog. I'm doing suspension next and need something that can handle all the rough driving, I was planning on going with rough country parts for that. If you have a better idea I'm all ears.

Definitely seems like you’re on the right track with Moog stuff. 
 

I would do a hodgepodge of suspension stuff. Probably Core4x4 control arms if you need better ones than stock. Either Old Man Emu or Rubicon Express springs because they seem reasonably priced and I’ve heard good things about them. For shocks, I’d do either the higher end Monroes or KYBs if I were on more of a budget and Fox or Bilsteins if money wasn’t as much of a concern. These are just the brands I would choose though. Really, just about anything should be fine. I’ve just never heard anything good about rough country, especially their shocks.

For stock shocks, I like the KYB Silver ones (Japan). For a steering stabilizer, Old Man EMU or Tenneco. The Tenneco one I used survived a long bought of Death Wobble, and was still good. I have used some Rough Country parts, although not shocks. Of late they have been upgrading the quality of their parts. Still, there are better products out there. Also, add Doetsch-Tech to the list of shocks. I'd second the Core 4x4 control arms. Good quality, good price. As for front springs it depends if stock or lifted. Old Man EMU, Metal Cloak.

I've got a Rough Country on the XJ, it seems heavy duty and is fine. The MJ has a Fox. It seems to work just the same at 3x the price.

i have the Rough Country N3 on my MJ. Very beefy, I like it. Goes good with my Clayton trac bar which is pure beef.

Really?? Ok so question for you, on the top part above the tierod end type bolt, what torque did you set it at? I've had mine in for 2 days now and i absolutely love it so far, But that torque part baffled me as I didn't get any instruction sheet with it except the sheet that told me to look at the instructions for proper torque settings lol

To tell you the truth its been over 2 years since i installed the stabilizer and can't remember what i torqued it to. I found this chart. Hope it helps you out.

The service manual calls for 55 ft lbs at the axle bracket and 35 ft lbs at the center link.
