1999 MJ Posted February 23, 2025 Posted February 23, 2025 1). Ā Largest full size spare tire that will fit under the truck in the factory location? Ā Ā a). Ā I imagine there is a weight limit to the MJ cable system. Ā Ā b). Ā Is there a vehicle I can search out for a 16 inch steel rim, that will complement 16 inch XJ aluminum rims? Ā Ā *** Ā Goal is a 30 inch spare tire, on a 16 inch steel rim. Ā 2). Ā MJ needs floor pans. Ā I plan on swapping a ā97-ā01 XJ interior to this truck. Ā Which floor pans would you recommend? Ā MJ floor pans? Ā XJ floor pans, because of the ā97-ā01 interior swap? Ā Ā *** Ā off the wall idea, Iād like to find Renix ārockerā seat bases, that I could put into this MJ & then bolt the ā97-ā01 seats to the Renix base. Ā Iām wondering if the "rocking" Renix seat base would allow for the ā97-ā01 to hinge forward, to access the rear of the cab? Ā Side note, I have a 1999 2dr XJ 4x4 5spd as a donor / parts rig to allow me to accomplish the majority of this. Ā Please feel free to chime in with FYIās & things to think about / consider. Ā Ā

Ā Ā *** Ā Goal is a 30 inch spare tire, on a 16 inch steel rim. I have a 31x10.5x15 spare under my long bed. It fits great. (I am not sure how it would fit under a short bed). The factory cable lifts the tire just fine.Ā I did add a ratchet strap for extra security. Ā Jeep Liberty's had 16 inch steel rims that will bolt right up and have the same back spacing as the MJ wheels.
neohic Posted February 23, 2025 Posted February 23, 2025 A 30ā is about as big as you can go under a short bed. I removed the riveted in panel behind the bumper to get mine to fit. Ā
GonzoTheGreat Posted February 23, 2025 Posted February 23, 2025 I second the ratchet strap. I trust the factory cable only so much. Stuff whatever size tire you can fit under there, but use a ratchet strap for cheap security.Ā Ā for the floors, it wonāt really affect the interior either way. XJ floors can be made to work, but donāt perfectly match the stiffeners in the āframeā underneath. I used the old key parts pans and had to modify slightly. They now have their MJ specific ones, and I havenāt tried them, but they look like a good fit.Ā
1999 MJ Posted February 24, 2025 Author Posted February 24, 2025 Good to know. Ā Thank you Gentlemen!!! Ā ššš
watchamakalit Posted February 24, 2025 Posted February 24, 2025 31" under a short bed here. Did have to remove riveted panel as noted already. Voice of experience, the factory winch holds till it don't.Ā I lost a brand-new 31" general grabber on a turbine wheel, because I didn't have a secondary strap.
PIKE Posted February 24, 2025 Posted February 24, 2025 33x9.50r-15 under my long bed. Fits just fine.
Pete M Posted February 26, 2025 Posted February 26, 2025 inch measurements for tires vary WILDLY which is why some tires fit and others don't.Ā any 30 will fit, some 31s will fit, and a couple guys have fit 32s or 33s underneath.Ā Ā and this assumes that all MJs have the same space available.Ā
