Goose_XJ88 Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 Has anyone done a Junkyard upgrade with stock MJ pack and swapped overload springs from a full size truck? I did a search and spent a few hours looking but didn't come across anything. Just something that had crossed my mind to increase the payload of the MJ to the MT without having to track down MT springs or buy them new from General Spring (if they still make them) Thanks for the input and knowledge
ghetdjc320 Posted September 7, 2024 Posted September 7, 2024 Are you looking for lift or increased payload? There should be plenty of options that could fit. You will likely need to redrill the center pin hole as the MJ one is offset a bit. I’ve seen 2 different co figurations called “metric ton” springs. One was a 4+1 pack and another the 3+2. I suspect the 3+2 is how the factory did it but I may be wrong

jeff351 Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 FYI - General Spring has the metric ton leaf springs back in stock. I just ordered a pair.

I think it was arrond 3.5-4" before settling. 4.5" re coils leveled it well. 3.5" fronts will give you factoryish rake.

I also ordered a pair . I currently have a bastard pack with a mix of 2 pair of MJ springs. Added some RE coils that give about 4.5 inch of lift and the speings aren't tall enough. Hopefully this will even it out.

I agree, probably 3.5-4". here's mine freshly installed and drove about 50 miles today. Factory shackles. Rides nice though. I have a 2" spacer and some unknown coils off the donor XJ in the front, and it sits with a slight rake.

The factory metric ton springs didn't ride any higher than standard 4WD springs. I have to say that if I ordered what I thought was a set of replacement springs for my stock MJ and the new springs produced a 4-inch lift over stock ride height, I would NOT be a happy camper. But too many people have reported that the General "MT" springs result in a 3" to 4" lift. I'd rather roll my own with junkyard leaves than pay premium prices for something that doesn't do what it's supposed to do.

But if I was after metric tons with factory height I would have gone a different route. Me comments are solely related to my experience with the general springs.

This is exactly what I'm dealing with now, my comanche looks like a clown car with 3" more lift in the rear. Tossed the old ones so I guess I'm paying someone to re-arch. They should really update their description...
